Chapter 88

Kael’s POV

"Can you… give me a second?"

“Why? What are you going to do?” my brother asked.

I looked at him quickly, trying to keep my emotions steady.

“I just want some time alone with Syria,” I stated.

Valentin moved forward, her demeanor gentle yet serious.

She put a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

"We understand," she said softly.

“Take your time. We’re here for you, Kael. If you need us, anything at all, we’re just outside.”

“Come on, sweetheart,” she said, taking my brother’s hand.

They shared a silent glance, then left the room with the doctor.

As soon as the door closed behind them, quiet enveloped the room.

I approached the bed slowly, then lowered myself into a squat right next to her. Syria lay there, pale and unmoving.

I softly swept a lock of hair away from her face and caressed her skin with my fingers.

She was asleep, but not peacefully.
