Syria’s POV

I blinked several times, trying to adjust my eyes to the blurred view ahead. For a moment, I thought the car had already driven off. But then, to my surprise, it suddenly came to a stop, not too far from the bar. I leaned in closer, peeking carefully through the window.

I didn’t make too much of it at first. I figured maybe it was nothing. But my thoughts were spiraling deep, far beyond the moment in front of me.

My head was heavy with confusion. I turned around and walked back through the door, trying to shake the thoughts clouding my mind.

As soon as I stepped inside, Violet approached me, her expression a mix of curiosity and concern.

“What did you see out there?” she asked.

“I had taken pictures, shots that clearly showed what I had just witnessed. But now that I had the evidence, I didn’t know what to do with it. How was I supposed to expose something like this? I knew Uncle wouldn’t believe me that easily. He’d probably think I was just making things up. Or worse, h
