Syria’s POV

Everything is going to be fine. Everything is going to be fine.

I kept whispering those words to myself, again and again, like a lifeline I was desperately clinging to.

It was the only thought I could hold onto, the only illusion I had left.

Bennett had treated my wounds earlier. He didn’t speak a single word the entire time, and I couldn’t bring myself to meet his eyes. When he finished, he left without another glance.

Now, I was alone again.

Chained to a wall like some dangerous animal, locked in a cold, dark cell that smelled like mildew and blood. Shadows crawled along the stone walls, and I couldn’t see past them. I couldn't see anything at all.

My stomach ached from hunger, the kind that went beyond just needing food. It gnawed at me, sharp and hollow.

Cold seeped into my bones, so deep I couldn’t stop shivering.

I curled up on the filthy ground, drawing my knees to my chest, wishing I could vanish into the cracks of the stone.
