«FERNANDRO MANSION.»
Stepping out of the car after a long day at the market helping out my mother-in-law. I yawned before walking into the house.
It was just 5PM in the evening and I had to return home to prepare for dinner before she’ll return back home.
Knowing my husband’s company had gone public just few weeks ago and it was finally getting the recognition it deserved. I planned to reveal my true identity to him.
I’m Hailey Norway. The only daughter of the Norway family. I had given up my position and life just to be with the love of my life after opposition from my grandfather.
To him, Tyler wasn’t worthy to be with me but I decided to proof them wrong and now I could finally do that. The happiness I was feeling was out of the world.
Just as I finished dropping the last meal on the dining table, I took out my phone to check the time and realized it was already 6PM, I didn’t expect to take time cooking tonight.
Just then, the doorbell rang prompting me to go and check it out. I opened the door, and a lady came in.
She was wearing a short black slit dress, her hair packed up with her bags beside her, she shoved me aside and made her way inside which made me frown.
“Who are you?” I asked her annoyed at the arrogance she just displayed but she remained non-challant about it and went to sit at the couch taking out her phone to call whomever.
Not long, the doorbell rang again and this time, it was my husband. Just as I was about complaining to him, the lady went to hug him.
Seeing them display their intimacy and Tyler showing his lovely side made me feel like the outsider.
Even though we had been married for 2 years, Tyler wouldn’t come back home early and he was always complaining of being busy trying to build wealth for the family which caused a great falling behind in both our marriage but also our sexual relationship.
“What do you think you are doing right now?” I asked not okay with the way he just did, my heart scared at whatever I wasn’t sure it was real.
Looking at me, I could see the hatred displaying in his eyes as he shoved me aside gently escorting the lady back to sit before coming to face me.
“Let’s get a divorce.” His voice laced with irritation and hatred as he stretched out his hands at me revealing the document in his hand. No doubt! It was a divorce paper.
My eyes went wide in shock! It was at most like everything happened like a flash. “What did you just say?” I couldn’t believe what my ear had heard.
I wanted to be sure I wasn’t mishearing things. He threw the paper on me making me flinch in fear and disbelief.
“I am asking you for a divorce. Now that my company has gone public. You are not worthy of being my partner.” His words were piercing deeply into my soul.
And the way he was saying it in a non challant way like he never cared. He stretched his hand to the lady who stood up to receive it.
“This is Lillian, my first love and soon to be Mrs Fernandro. She’s the only one worthy to be addressed by my name and not you, a little delivery bitch.” He spat on my face.
The both of them smiled, my tears dropped streaming down my face slowly, u didn’t want to believe Tyler will ever do that to me.
When we first met, he saved me from the assassins sent to kill me but he mistook them as men who goes after weak ladies just to assault them.
He doesn’t know about my status in the family, he had thought I came to the company to look for someone because I was dressed so simple.
That was when I fell in love with him and I couldn’t see his facade, he must be trying to draw me away or maybe he’s testing me.
“Tyler, it’s me, Hailey. Your wife, you love me remember?” I don’t even have any idea what I was saying anymore, I just wanted him to say something.
I raised my right hand up showing my finger, my ring showing on my index finger but he suddenly burst out laughing which made me wonder what was wrong.
I thought maybe he finally wanted to confess he was only pranking me and joined him in laughing while cleaning my tears.
“You must be really dumb like he said.” The lady finally spoke out. The tension in the room grew once again and I was met with a cold glance from Tyler.
“I mean, who’ll be proud wearing a fake ring probably worth just 10 bucks in the street and even showing it off?” She shrugged, I couldn’t believe that was a fake ring.
Tyler had shown me the receipt, he bought it with his last paycheck from the company he was working with before and that was also the reason he decided he wanted to start up his new company so he’ll be able to support me more when we decide to start our own family.
My hands dropped, my mouth opened but no words could come out, now I realized how foolish I had been all along.
The late night out, the attitude, the lies, not touching me, the countless fake love anytime I noticed something suspicious or off about him.
I shook my head in fear, watching the both of them smile rather proudly at each other. “I know you are joking right now or maybe pranking me, you know how we used to be, no I mean, Tyler please.” I broke down in tears.
I didn’t want to believe I had wasted two years of my life on someone who was busy loving someone or no, not loving me but using me as a substitute.
“You have to face the reality Hailey. Someone of your status also deserves to be loved?” He scoffed and pushed me off which made me staggered falling down on my knees.
I was hurt but more hurt as I stared at them. Just then something caught my eye in the divorce paper on the floor.
“One million to substitute as a scapegoat and be sent to prison.” Shocked!
Hailey's POV We didn’t call the police, he didn’t even wait for security.Kingsley drove. Not the careful, controlled man who glided through traffic with bored confidence—but something sharper, darker. His hands were steady on the wheel, knuckles white, eyes locked on the road as he cut through Singapore’s streets with surgical precision. Red lights blurred past us. Horns flared and died behind us. The city bent around his urgency or was forced to.I gripped the door handle without realizing it, my body braced for impact even though none came. The alert echoed in my head.Biometric breach.Level four.Secret room.No one spoke. The silence between us was no longer tense—it was aligned. Whatever lived in that penthouse, whatever someone had tried to reach, was now bigger than contracts, deals, sarcasm, or suspicion. This wasn’t a game anymore. When we reached the underground garage, Kingsley didn’t bother with valet protocols or discretion. He parked hard, engine still running for hal
Hailey's POV The smell hit me before the sound faded.Burnt rubber clung to the air, thick and acrid, mixing with the metallic tang of blood and stone dust. The night felt heavier now, the humidity pressing against my skin as if the city itself were holding its breath.I was still shaking.I hadn’t realized how badly until my fingers tightened painfully in the fabric of Kingsley’s coat, my hands refusing to let go. My body hadn’t caught up with the fact that I was alive, that the car hadn’t hit me. That the space where I’d been standing seconds earlier was now a crater of shattered stone.Kingsley was solid beneath my grip.Too solid to be imagined. He stood over me, one arm locked around my shoulders, the other braced against my back, holding me upright as if letting go would invite the world to collapse again. I could feel his heart racing through his chest, fast and brutal, a rhythm that matched my own.I pulled back just enough to look at him.Blood streaked down his forearm. Not
Hailey's POV The sound of the impact didn’t register as noise at first. It was pressure.A violent compression of air and stone and force that slammed into my body all at once. The world jolted sideways, my vision fracturing into light and shadow and the sharp scream of tearing metal. Then I was on the ground. The breath was knocked clean out of me, my lungs refusing to cooperate as I gasped uselessly against the pavement. Something heavy pinned me down, warm and solid, shielding me as debris rained around us—chips of stone, shattered glass, fragments of a life that had been standing upright seconds earlier. The sedan was already gone.I heard it distantly, the scream of tires against asphalt, the angry growl of an engine tearing away into the night. The sound faded quickly, leaving behind the echo of destruction and the ringing silence that followed violence too sudden to process. My ears rang.My heart felt like it was trying to claw its way out of my chest.“Hailey.”The voice was
Hailey's POV The Norway Mansion had always known how to calm me.The moment the gates slid open, something in my chest usually loosened. The gravel driveway curved gently toward the house, framed by old banyan trees whose branches had shaded generations of secrets. I learned to ride a bike here, I learned how to lose gracefully, I learned which silences meant love and which meant expectation.Tonight, the mansion looked the same. That was the problem. The lights glowed warm behind tall windows. The fountain in the courtyard murmured softly, familiar and patient. Even the air smelled right—jasmine from the garden, polished wood drifting out when the front doors opened. My body relaxed on instinct. My mind did not.Every step inside felt like walking deeper into a lie I’d lived in willingly. The staff greeted me the way they always did, with quiet respect and practiced neutrality. No one asked why I was back so late. No one ever did, this house had been built on discretion long before
