Chapter eight

Castle Soniva, Summer Court Capital, Faerie

Fawn

This time I was dreaming, and I knew I was dreaming, but it felt so real. I was in a winter wonderland of snow and freezing my ass off. I was following a pregnant woman through a trail of snow-capped trees, and it was as if I were a ghost just watching because she couldn't see me. She looked exactly like me and instinctively I knew she was my mom and that I was that huge baby bump. She broke through the woods into a large clearing where armies of fae were fighting.

They were using everything from fists, swords, arrows, and magic. It was bloody and deadly. Fae falling to their deaths everywhere. My mom charged into the fray, and she was like a tornado. I could hardly keep up with her movements; she moved at an inhuman speed. It looked like she just popped in and out. It was so weird.  Fae dropping like flies under her short swords and magic. As I watched in horrified fascination, I wasn't sure what he was, a man or fae appeared behind her, and she froze.

I could see that the man or fae was using magic to keep her frozen, and then he touched her forehead and seemed to be drawing her strength from her. She collapsed, and he just disappeared. When I ran over, she was clutching her swollen stomach. I saw my auntie Anya racing toward her shooting fae that got close to mom with arrows. Then I saw the rest of my aunties all racing over to protect her. Mom let out an earsplitting scream, and I woke up shivering uncontrollably. I was so so cold and still cuffed to the bed so that I couldn't pull the covers over me. I balled into a ball to try to find warmth and tears froze on my cheeks. I had felt her despair.

Fallon

I noticed a cold seeping into my bones and then saw my breaths with each exhale. Then, glancing over to the floor-to-ceiling windows of my study, I saw what should be impossible. It was snowing in the summer court. Great gusts of snow are falling in my summer kingdom. A banging sounded on the door, and then Cian came rushing into the room with a panicked look on his face. I could hear all the fae in the halls of the castle panicking. "What's caused this?" I shouted.

"I don't know your grace. I was hoping you knew."

"Well, I don't! Try to calm everyone down. I left Fawn cuffed in my room. I've got to see that she's not frightened by all this commotion."

I took to the stairs ignoring all the fae trying to stop me for answers. They were all rushing through the halls and crowding around windows. Some had even rushed outside into the snow.

When I reached my rooms, the doors were frozen solid, I saw it was only my doors.  They wouldn't budge, so I used my magic to warm them and thaw them enough to get them open.

Fawn was curled into a shivering ball on the bed. "Fallon," her teeth chattered, and I rushed over and released her from the cuffs and gathered her in my arms. I pulled the covers over us and immediately started warming her with my magic. In moments she let out a sigh of relief and snuggled into me more relaxed.

Soon the room started to warm, and I could see outside the large windows that the snow had stopped and the sun was shining brightly. Soon any sign of the snow would be melted away and gone just as the suddenly platinum blonde hair, pale iridescent skin, and pale blue, glowing eyes on my Fawn had.

I didn't want to frighten her when I came into the room to see her looking like a winter princess, so I held in my shock over the sudden change in her appearance. They had faded away with the cold, though, and now she had her usual golden blonde locks and tan skin.

Cian walked in the door that I had left wide open, " It has stopped, and everything is going back to normal, but the castle is in an uproar. Everyone wants to know what is happening," Cian paused, "also, is there a reason that Cassia was standing in your doorway smiling when I know she's a jealous fae and wouldn't smile at this touching picture of new mates?"

That was just what I need. Cassia using this to stir trouble. "because she saw something and plans to stir up trouble for Fawn. I need to get my faeling some lunch and have a chat with her; then I'll call a meeting and explain some things so we'll be prepared for it. Can you have lunch sent up and then gather up Wise, Tilly, and Poppy and bring everyone here in an hour?"

"Yes, I'll see to it." Cian nodded.

"Thank you, Cian. Please close the doors on your way out."

"Anytime your grace"

Cian left, and I looked at Fawn. She was watching me with confusion.

"We have to have a little chat, faeling, but I want you to understand that everything is going to be okay. I'll make it so, I promise. Everything will work out."

"oh boy," she whispered.

"I promise it'll be okay." I put my hand to her face, "trust me."

"Okay," she smiled sweetly.
