3: Escape Alone

Nights in the cold prison made me feel even more devastated. I try to imagine what my life will be like tomorrow. They tied Kiara and I up with silver scales with sharp spines. The weight hurts my legs.

Kiara curled up across my cell in the prison where I was tied up. Looks like the guards beat Kiara to death.

The guards are mean.

They didn’t give me a decent dinner. The guards cursed at me. They treated me like animals and slaves. I didn’t do anything wrong to them. I treat them well, but they treat me like trash after making so much profit.

I was their legal Luna.

When I was depressed and needed support, they avoided me as if I were a villain. They didn’t want to help me at all. They cursed me for not giving them an heir.

Now, they have a great hatred for me. Because they judged me to be a barren Luna and a naughty wolf. Meanwhile, Jeremy only cares about his future successor and Eunice.

That really hurt me. I can’t tell you how many times I begged Jeremy to love me like I love him. Jeremy never treated me right, even though I was his Luna.

I was gasping.

I thought I was just wasting time on the Shadowed Moon Pack. I’m going to die from this disaster. I planned an escape from this silver prison in silence. I suspect the guards deliberately added the weight to break my ankle.

They won’t let me escape the Shadowed Moon Pack before the Elders pass sentence.

“Lilith, are you okay?” Kiara’s calling from the other side.

“I’m all right here, Kia.”

“Thank you, Goddess. They’re assholes. I’m afraid he hurt you with that iron. You need to take care of yourself. I can’t bear the pain in my whole body.”

“Kia, hang in there. I’ll get you out of here soon!” I shouted.

I tried to figure out how to open the padlock on the weight.

“Don’t bother yourself for me, Lilith. Please get out of here. Save yourself from the brutality of Alpha Jeremy.” she stuttered.

“I can’t leave you here alone, Kia. We’re getting out of this prison. I’m sure of it!”

“I can’t walk any further, Lilith. I’m badly hurt. They beat me repeatedly.”

“No, Kia. I’m not going anywhere. We’re gonna get out of this prison together.” I insisted.

“I’m glad to know you, Lilith. I’m glad to be your servant. You’re the only one in my life who has treated me properly. Let me protect you one more time before I die.”

I cried, listening to her as she was tormented because of being a loyal servant for me. I was truly indebted to her.

“No, Kia. If I get out of this silver prison, you’ll have to get out of here too,” I argued.

“No Lilith. I can’t run that far quickly.”

“Kiara... hold on for me.”

I could see Kiara Logan’s pure smile. My heart pained because of that, a genuine smile from someone who loved you. My heart trembling, I snatched the padlock from the weight and tore it with an effort.

My fingernails were bleeding, I didn’t care. I didn’t care how much pain I got and how much pain I felt inside.

I had had enough.

I panicked as I tried to break the iron lock with bloody fingers. For a moment, I took a breath and closed my eyes. I couldn’t think of anything other than Kiara Logan dying on the other side.

As I cast my eyes around the room, I found a handyman’s toolbox near me. I moved to open the box with my fingertips. The box was so rusty it was difficult to open.

When I opened the box, I fell down, and the contents of the box scattered. Suddenly a guard came into hand over an ugly embroidered cloth for the quilt. He cursed as I scattered the contents of the box. He entered my room angrily and swore at me.

When he was surprised, I noticed a screwdriver that was near my hand. I tried to pick it up, but strangely, it rolled towards me like a magnet in my hand.

“What are you doing, bitch? Hand over that screwdriver to me!”

I stared into the guard’s eyes, then stuck the screwdriver into his fat neck. Blood splashed everywhere. When the guard was about to claw me, I bite and tore at him first. He was gasping because he was running out of blood.

I grabbed the stack of keys from his belt and opened the padlock from the weight. Unfortunately, when I tried to walk, my leg was limping.

My leg was injured. I struggled to get to Kiara Logan and ask her to leave Shadowed Moon.

“Kiara... wake up, let’s get out of here.”

Kiara didn’t answer. She just smiled sincerely and sent me away. I looked for the key to Kiara’s cubicle, but a rush of footsteps startled me.

I panicked and dropped the key, making a loud clattering sound. I hurriedly picked it back up and hid behind a pile of hay while holding a blood-soaked screwdriver.

When the door opened, someone called out to me in a whisper. It surprised him to see the guard who was now in my cubicle. I popped my head out and realised that it was Alexander.

“Lilith, come follow me!” He pulled my hand hurriedly.

I held myself back. “I’m not leaving without Kiara. She’s dying, Alex.”

“I don’t care. The most important thing is that you get out of here before he goes crazy,” Alexander grumbled.

“I won’t go!”

“Are you crazy! Leave the servant here, let’s follow me and get out of here!” Alexander demanded.

“Alex, she’s...”

“Enough Lilith! I risked my life to go here. Now follow me! You need to get out of here before Jeremy comes to check on you. I’m sure he’ll go even crazier if you’re still here. Just accept his rejection. You’ll be happy if you do.”

Alexander pulled me out. I just followed him with shuffling steps. My mind was a mess. I left Kiara in the silver prison without helping her at all.

Alexander took me to the nearest forest. He told me to go towards the north on his white horse. He gave me a flare stick to tell the guards at Moonlight Sonata he was in their area.

I was a little worried about the idea, but Alexander continued to force me to leave here.

“What should I do if they kill Kiara?” I asked.

“I don’t want to bear the sin of your death. You need to leave this place right away.”

“Please take care of Kiara for me.”

“I won’t promise because Jeremy is crazy. He can do anything he wants.”

“Please ….”

“Get out.”

I was still thinking about Kiara and her fate. Mum treated my ankle and asked about the atrocities Jeremy had committed during this time.

I ignored her and kept quiet. I wanted to save it until I was ready to tell her.

I hugged my mum and cried. The pain was all over my body, but not as bad as the wound in my soul. I fell into misfortune and bad luck.

I’m the weak Beta in the Moonlight Sonata. I blamed myself for everything.

“You are not the worst Beta, you are a special Beta. Look, Jeremy isn’t the only Alpha in this world. You can get a second chance to meet your Alpha,” Mum comforted me, then kissed my forehead.

I whispered, “But I can’t give birth to a child. I’m an imperfect Beta, and I’m so useless.”

“No, we never thought of you as a useless wolf, dear. You are more special than other Betas, you just don’t realise it yet. Don’t blame yourself, dear.” Mum hugged me and held me tight.

“But Dad always says that Mum. I’m completely useless to the Moonlight Sonata. I can’t make him proud of me. You’re a highly respected werewolf here, but you have a useless daughter like me. I let you down.”

“No, you didn’t. There’s no reason to be disappointed in you, pumpkin. Our little girl never let us down.”

“But I will disappoint you. I embarrass you repeatedly.”

“Pumpkin, the only thing you have to think about is how to break your partner’s bond with Jeremy. Find your second chance, or you’re gonna get hurt because Jeremy already has Eunice and their future child. I don’t want to see you in pain all the time."

“I can’t do that mom, I’m already tied up with Jeremy and--“

“You can do it, Lilith. Either way, you need to find your second chance soon".

Mum kissed my forehead and told me to get some rest. But the main door opened. I cowered in fear, thinking it was Jeremy. Stomping footsteps, typical of leather shoes, echoed in my ears.

I could feel his anger. My body ached with it. I curled up inside my blanket in fear. I closed my eyes. As the pain got worse, I squeezed my pillow. I was suffering increasingly.

“WHERE IS SHE!”

“Take it easy, Owen! You hurt your daughter! Let her rest for a moment!” Mom was burping.

“Tell me, what happened to her? Why would Jeremy put Lilith in a silver prison?” My father insisted.

“I can’t explain that right now, Owen. We can talk about this another time. Let her rest a while.”

“ARGGH!” I screamed.
