Her name was Sawyer, and I couldn't get her off my mind. From the moment she bumped into me at that diner, I had felt the sparks.

My wolf was going crazy. Mate! Mate! He kept screaming into my mind. It couldn't be. I was next in line to be Alpha. I couldn't be mated to a human. But there she was, perfect in every way.

No, I wouldn't allow it. Then, Elizabeth had to notice that necklace of hers. That wolf with the full moon in the background. It was obviously charmed and from a wolf pack. How did she get it? I had to find out.

Max, he was to become my Beta, and Elizabeth was our closest friend. We went everywhere together. Plus, Elizabeth's dad was head of training, which she would probably take over eventually, too. She was damn good at it.

They both insisted that I leave Sawyer alone, but I told them that I couldn't get that necklace out of my mind. I lied and said I had seen it before in one of my Alpha studies and had to know how she possessed such an item when it could potentially belong to a pack. They agreed it seemed strange and agreed to help me get to the bottom of it. I couldn't tell them she was my mate. What would they think.

So we came back to this little town of Hope Springs. We went to the diner again, where we overheard some of the teens talking about a party. Sawyer wasn't working, so we followed the teens and wound up at this fancy lake house. We blended in just fine. Even made some friends.

They were the right friends because as we approached them after grabbing a drink, there she was. But she was wrapped in someone else's arms. I had to control myself. Not only did I not want to give myself away to my pack mates, but I didn't want to intimidate any of the humans.

What did she see in this guy anyway? I could take him no problem. These humans were weak. They wouldn't be able to protect her. She was mine.

Fuck! There I go again. Losing myself in my stupid thoughts that this human could actually be my mate.

"She is, though, and you want her just as bad as I do."

"Shut up, Tye."

Tye's my wolf. We can speak to each other since he's constantly in my mind. We act as one and respect each other.

"Make her! Take her as ours!"

"I can't. That would scare her."

"Why? She's a wolf, too. Can't you catch that faint smell of wolf from her."

She's a wolf! She didn't act like it. She also didn't display any of the signs. I couldn't catch the scent that Tye was talking about. However, she did smell really good.

"I think you're going crazy for a mate, Tye, I can't smell anything off her."

"It's there. I wouldn't lie to you."

I mindlinked Max and told him to get out of here with Elizabeth so I could chat with her more privately. He agreed and left us to speak on the dock alone. I wanted to touch her again and feel the warmth from the sparks I felt the other day. So when my arm finally brushed against her, I could feel my dick get hard. I moved to Iean against the railing facing the other way, but she was leaving. Why was she leaving?

"Tye, what did I say?"

"You were being a creep. You've scared her. Stop staring! She can sense it. Follow her!"

So that's exactly what I did. I kept my distance, though. She headed out front and onto a bike before heading off down the road. I saw the forest across the street, so I made my way over before shifting and followed her home in the shadows.

She kept looking back every so often. She really could sense me. Maybe Tye wasn't lying after all. Maybe she was a wolf. It had to be that pendant she wore. There was something off about it. Why would she wear a pendant with a wolf and a full moon. What pack could it be from?

"Ask your father?"

"Tye, I couldn't do that. You know what he's like. If that necklace means anything, he may not like it being in the hands of a human."

"But she's not human!"

"Okay, okay! She's not human."

"Thank you."

She got off her bike and walked it up a driveway somewhere on the other side of town.

"You just going to keep staring at her?"

"I need to know more."

However, once she went inside, she was gone. Until anyone light came on in the upstairs bedroom. She peaked out of her window, looking directly into the forest, as if she were looking right at me. So I stared right back. I don't know how long we stayed like that for but she was the one who then closed her blinds and turned the light off.

"We have to find out more about that necklace."

"We have to bring her back home and mate her!"

"Tye, stop being a horn dog and think straight."

"Fine, fine. Eventually, we get her home and mate her. In the meantime, I'll play your game of finding out a out the necklace."

"Thank you."

We retreated back to the lake house, where I shifted back and got dressed before looking for Max and Elizabeth. As I walked through the party, I saw that idiot Tom making out with another girl. It made me so mad that someone would treat my mate like that. I walked up to him and grabbed him by the shoulder.

"What the fuck man!?"

"I thought you had a girlfriend?"

"Do you see her around," he laughed, "Now can you leave me alone, I'm a little busy?"

That's when I punched him. No one treated my mate that way.

"What the hell was that for?!"

"Krewe, let's get out of here."

Max pulled me away before I could cause any more damage.

"Sorry about that. He must have drank too much and mistaken you for someone else!" Elizabeth said as she tried to cool down the situation.

"Get your fucking friend out of here and don't come back!"

We took off and got into the jeep before speeding off back towards the pack grounds.

"What was that all about?" Max asked.

"Honestly, I don't know. Just felt like causing a little trouble."

"Well, great job laying low," Elizabeth said.

Yea, I may have just fucked up.

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 23

I got off the plane, grabbed my suitcase and bag, and walked outside. The sun shone brightly in my eyes, that I had lifted my hand up to shield it away to see anything. I wasn't too sure where I was supposed to meet Leila, I didn't have a phone, so I just walked up and down the pick-up area. "There you are!" I turned around, and there stood a tall, muscular, dark-haired boy. He couldn't have been much older than me. If anything, he was the same age. His hair reached his shoulders in waves, and he was nicely tanned. He wore a tank top with shorts and sandals. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought he came straight from the beach. "Are you talking to me?" "You're Sawyer, right?" "Yes...? Do I know you?" "I'm Jaxon! You'll be staying with my mom and I for a while. Let me take your bag!" He swooped in and took my suitcase handle from me and my bag. He carried both with little effort. "Thanks." "It's great to meet you. You're a bit tiny, though, aren't you?

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 22

I was in the study, loosely listening to what my mother had to say in regards to scheduling and timing for my Alpha training when Max was inside my head yelling. "Krewe! Krewe! They have taken her! She's gone!" "Who is gone?" "I don't know where she's going. She wouldn't say. Krewe! We need to stop her!" "Max, calm down. What's going on? You're not making any sense." "Sawyer! She is gone!" I stood and ran out of the office. "Where are you?" "Coming up to the front of the lake house." I heard my mother and father yelling after me, asking me what was happening. I didn't care, I needed to know what Max was going on about. I got outside just as he was shifting back. "They took her Krewe! They have sent her away somewhere. What do we do?" "Max, you need to calm down and start from the beginning," my hands were placed on his shoulders to try and calm him down. "I followed her scent. I wanted to make sure she was alright. I found her in the forest, walking around l

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 21

I spent the day packing. I never got to ask how I would explain things to my friends. Would I just disappear to never be seen again? I would have to finalize everything and get our stories straight. Ma walked in. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you more." "Ma, what are you talking about? I think you have done a great job already. I love you guys so much." "I love you too, baby. But you shouldn't be leaving like this. I should be with you. Protecting you." "You are by sending me to live with Leila. I'm 18. I need to grow up. Whether it was from me being a wolf or me going off to college. At least I figured out everything here and not alone, at some random school, with random people." "I'm sorry I kept this from you." "Don't. It's alright." "It's who you are, though. I didn't allow you to be your true self. I suppressed your wolf, I hid you away." "It's alright. I'm coming to terms with this new world. I honestly thought I was a freak. Now I feel like I actually fit

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 20

I watched as she left. I couldn't stop her, even though everything in me wanted to. I wouldn't allow myself to. She needed to find out and know the truth. As long as Max and Liz didn't know, she would be safe. "Why did you let her leave!" Max yelled at me. "I had to. I can't keep her from finding out." "Who will protect her as you say? What happened? Why can't you tell us?" "If you knew and my father found out, Sawyer and her family would be in grave danger. Do you understand!? Or are you just too dumb to realize the consequences of an Alpha command?" "So instead, we have to stand around and do shit all to protect her?!" "Yes!" "I can't do that! If you won't fight for your mate, then I will!" "Max, stop!" "Why!?" "We have to let her go. She has to find out. She needs to know who she is. This is a lot on her already. My father isn't the man you think he is. I will take over the pack, and I will protect Sawyer while making everything right again." "So what? We los

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 19

They all just stared at me. I felt uncomfortable. "Can someone say something?" "Sorry. Sawyer, I just haven't figured out what we should do. I just know I have to keep you safe," Krewe said as he came to kneel beside me and take my hand. "Safe from what?" I felt so confused. What happened? Why was I being kept away from what I was? What did Krewe know? "I can't tell you. Not yet." "So what do I do?" "I'm not sure." "This isn't fair! This is all so new to me. I want answers, I want to know why I've been kept a secret all these years. I don't get it, and if you won't tell me, then I guess I will go home and ask my aunt and uncle." I got up and stormed upstairs to grab my belongings. I didn't want to be here anymore. I didn't want to feel this pain anymore. I felt betrayed as everyone had this deep secret about me, and I was being left out. It was my life. I should have a say. I went back downstairs and headed for the door. I could hear them all whispering. "Sawyer, pl

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 18

I felt like I had the best sleep of my entire life. I felt warm and rested until I felt a hard body pressed up against me. I stretched and turned and saw Krewe sleeping behind me. I remember laying down with him, but when did he get naked? I quickly checked to make sure I wasn't naked, but no, thankfully, I still had my clothes on. I lifted the blanket and crawled out of the bed, and grabbed the blanket on the end of the bed to drap over him. As soon I had it on top of him, he woke. "Good morning." His voice was still deep and raspy from sleep. "You do realize you're naked?" "I am? Oh yea, I went for a run last night." He said it so casually like it shouldn't matter. I've never been with a naked man. It does matter. I didn't grow up with wolves. This is just awkward. I could feel my cheeks heating up the longer I just stared, dumbfounded. Talk Sawyer, talk. "Well, don't you think you would be more comfortable with some clothes on?" "Oh, shit, yea. I hope I didn't freak y
