"Sasha, hurry up! She has to go now! They are on the way!"

"I'm trying to go as fast as I can."

"Sasha, you don't have to pack everything. Just enough to get her through the next couple of days."

"We have plenty of supplies already at home. Please, we have to leave Sasha. This isn't safe for us or the girl."

"But I can't just give her up like this, Rosa."

"I understand it must be difficult. But this is war. This is for her own protection."

"Sasha now! Give her up now!"

"Okay, Felix. Calm down, give her another moment."

"Goodbye, my sweet baby girl. I love you. I've loved you even before I ever saw you. You will always have my heart. Please always remember me and your father."

She handed the toddler over to her sister before she was placed safely into a car seat.

"Please protect her."

"You know we will love her as if she was our own. I love you, Sasha."

"I love you too, Rosa."

Tears fell as the howls in the night grew louder.

"You have to leave now!"

Phil and Rosa raced to the car and got in before speeding off down the dark dirt road and off into the night.

"She will be fine, Sasha. We are doing what's best for her."

"I know. It just hurts so much."

Felix froze on the spot as a mindlink came through.

"What is it, Felix?"

"They've breached the borders. It's time!"

With one final embrace, they both raced out of the house and shifted while running to meet with the rest of the pack. Felix and Sasha stood front and center while the rest lined up in rows behind.

"I want to say thank you to you all for fighting for this pack. We may be small, but we can be mighty. This is for the Full Moon Pack! We won't ever let the Cresent Moon Pack take away our strength, our love, or our family values. We fight together, and we will die together."

The support and love Felix and Sasha felt at that moment from the pack made it all that much easier to know they made the right choice to fight. They knew they wouldn't win, but the fact they were willing to sacrifice their lives for the pack made it all worth it.

They could hear the paws thundering on the ground in front of them. They could feel the ground shake as the Cresent Moon Pack grew closer.

The first sight of the other wolves Felix leaped into the air and took down the first of many. But they kept coming. Sasha kept trying to keep her eye on Felix and any others that needed help when suddenly a wolf jumped and grabbed her neck. His teeth sunk deeply in as he shook her body around ripping flesh and allowing Sasha to bleed out.

"Sasha!" Felix growled. He ran over, jumping over bodies and other fights till he got to her lifeless body just laying there.

"I love you, Sasha. Please wake up."

He nudged her body with his snout, but nothing. That's when a wolf grabbed him by the ankle, while another bit down on his neck. He became weak in that moment.

"Surrender and survive. Keep the pack alive and keep us in your hearts. Save those who are left," Felix said through the mindlink before being killed. His body falling atop Sashas.

The pack lowered themselves into submission, baring their necks to the other pack as Alpha Tristan stepped forward from the shadows.

"Welcome to the Cresent Moon Pack. Please pledge your loyalty to us. Any of you who do not will be punished and exiled. Our borders have expanded, and we will take over into your land. You may address me as Alpha. Your new Luna here is Luna Tina Lake and should be addressed accordingly. For those of you who don't know, we have a son who will one day be your leader." A young pup came forward with Luna Tina. "His name is Krewe. Please respect him as such. We will treat you with respect, but you must work hard and show us your loyalty to earn that respect. We run a tight ship. Now, where are the bodies of Alpha and Luna Moon?"

Several wolves whined and lowered their heads in the direction of their fallen leader.

"I will have none of that!" He strode over to the bodies, snarling. "Where is the girl?"

Everyone shifted uncomfortably.

"I said, where is the girl!?"

"We have not found her. We are still looking through the pack but have not caught any scent of her."

"Who knows where the girl is!?"

A lone wolf stepped forward, "I would like to apologize to my old pack for this betrayal, but I believe the girl fled with her aunt and uncle."

"We will continue the search for her. She will be found and killed too."

All the wolves started howling, and those from the Full Moon Pack joined in to show their loyalty in fear of being reprimanded for not doing so.

Meanwhile, several miles away, Rosa and Phil had covered a lot of ground getting away from the pack while the toddler slept in the back.

"Do you think they will make it?"

"I doubt it," Rosa said as she lowered her head, "The Cresent Moon Pack is much larger and stronger. Alpha Tristan is ruthless, and the only way for his reign to come to end is if their son doesn't follow in his footsteps. He needs to let go of grudges and live a happier and more peaceful life. I feel sorry for the Full Moon Pack."

"Well, you came from there, so there was some good within that pack."

"That's because everyone lives in fear. Everyone is good. It's just the way Alpha Tristan runs the pack. Everyone fears, so they work harder. No one is truly happy. That's why Sasha and I left when we had the chance."

Phil rested his hand upon Rosa's. They remained quiet for the rest of the ride.

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 23

I got off the plane, grabbed my suitcase and bag, and walked outside. The sun shone brightly in my eyes, that I had lifted my hand up to shield it away to see anything. I wasn't too sure where I was supposed to meet Leila, I didn't have a phone, so I just walked up and down the pick-up area. "There you are!" I turned around, and there stood a tall, muscular, dark-haired boy. He couldn't have been much older than me. If anything, he was the same age. His hair reached his shoulders in waves, and he was nicely tanned. He wore a tank top with shorts and sandals. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought he came straight from the beach. "Are you talking to me?" "You're Sawyer, right?" "Yes...? Do I know you?" "I'm Jaxon! You'll be staying with my mom and I for a while. Let me take your bag!" He swooped in and took my suitcase handle from me and my bag. He carried both with little effort. "Thanks." "It's great to meet you. You're a bit tiny, though, aren't you?

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 22

I was in the study, loosely listening to what my mother had to say in regards to scheduling and timing for my Alpha training when Max was inside my head yelling. "Krewe! Krewe! They have taken her! She's gone!" "Who is gone?" "I don't know where she's going. She wouldn't say. Krewe! We need to stop her!" "Max, calm down. What's going on? You're not making any sense." "Sawyer! She is gone!" I stood and ran out of the office. "Where are you?" "Coming up to the front of the lake house." I heard my mother and father yelling after me, asking me what was happening. I didn't care, I needed to know what Max was going on about. I got outside just as he was shifting back. "They took her Krewe! They have sent her away somewhere. What do we do?" "Max, you need to calm down and start from the beginning," my hands were placed on his shoulders to try and calm him down. "I followed her scent. I wanted to make sure she was alright. I found her in the forest, walking around l

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 21

I spent the day packing. I never got to ask how I would explain things to my friends. Would I just disappear to never be seen again? I would have to finalize everything and get our stories straight. Ma walked in. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you more." "Ma, what are you talking about? I think you have done a great job already. I love you guys so much." "I love you too, baby. But you shouldn't be leaving like this. I should be with you. Protecting you." "You are by sending me to live with Leila. I'm 18. I need to grow up. Whether it was from me being a wolf or me going off to college. At least I figured out everything here and not alone, at some random school, with random people." "I'm sorry I kept this from you." "Don't. It's alright." "It's who you are, though. I didn't allow you to be your true self. I suppressed your wolf, I hid you away." "It's alright. I'm coming to terms with this new world. I honestly thought I was a freak. Now I feel like I actually fit

I watched as she left. I couldn't stop her, even though everything in me wanted to. I wouldn't allow myself to. She needed to find out and know the truth. As long as Max and Liz didn't know, she would be safe. "Why did you let her leave!" Max yelled at me. "I had to. I can't keep her from finding out." "Who will protect her as you say? What happened? Why can't you tell us?" "If you knew and my father found out, Sawyer and her family would be in grave danger. Do you understand!? Or are you just too dumb to realize the consequences of an Alpha command?" "So instead, we have to stand around and do shit all to protect her?!" "Yes!" "I can't do that! If you won't fight for your mate, then I will!" "Max, stop!" "Why!?" "We have to let her go. She has to find out. She needs to know who she is. This is a lot on her already. My father isn't the man you think he is. I will take over the pack, and I will protect Sawyer while making everything right again." "So what? We los

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 19

They all just stared at me. I felt uncomfortable. "Can someone say something?" "Sorry. Sawyer, I just haven't figured out what we should do. I just know I have to keep you safe," Krewe said as he came to kneel beside me and take my hand. "Safe from what?" I felt so confused. What happened? Why was I being kept away from what I was? What did Krewe know? "I can't tell you. Not yet." "So what do I do?" "I'm not sure." "This isn't fair! This is all so new to me. I want answers, I want to know why I've been kept a secret all these years. I don't get it, and if you won't tell me, then I guess I will go home and ask my aunt and uncle." I got up and stormed upstairs to grab my belongings. I didn't want to be here anymore. I didn't want to feel this pain anymore. I felt betrayed as everyone had this deep secret about me, and I was being left out. It was my life. I should have a say. I went back downstairs and headed for the door. I could hear them all whispering. "Sawyer, pl

  • The Last Moon   Chapter 18

I felt like I had the best sleep of my entire life. I felt warm and rested until I felt a hard body pressed up against me. I stretched and turned and saw Krewe sleeping behind me. I remember laying down with him, but when did he get naked? I quickly checked to make sure I wasn't naked, but no, thankfully, I still had my clothes on. I lifted the blanket and crawled out of the bed, and grabbed the blanket on the end of the bed to drap over him. As soon I had it on top of him, he woke. "Good morning." His voice was still deep and raspy from sleep. "You do realize you're naked?" "I am? Oh yea, I went for a run last night." He said it so casually like it shouldn't matter. I've never been with a naked man. It does matter. I didn't grow up with wolves. This is just awkward. I could feel my cheeks heating up the longer I just stared, dumbfounded. Talk Sawyer, talk. "Well, don't you think you would be more comfortable with some clothes on?" "Oh, shit, yea. I hope I didn't freak y
