KATARINA
“What the hell!” The shriek tore through the room just as I stumbled into my husband’s bedroom, and everything inside my chest collapsed at the sight that welcomed me, my right-hand woman… my friend, in my husband’s bed with the sheets tangled around her bare legs, her hair wild. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe as my organs rushed to my throat. "Wha-wha-t..." My words tripped over each other as I stumbled forward. “What's going on? Why are you here? Why are you in my husband’s bed? WHAT IS THIS?” The answer was obvious as my eyes darted around the room, but I couldn't let myself believe it. Her clothes lay strewn all over the room, undergarments tangled and scattered as though I had walked in after a reunion between two long-lost lovers. My stomach clenched so hard that I thought I might be sick. And her eyes met mine, resentful as they held them, before she burst out laughing, just as cruel and mocking. Spitting coldly, she asked. “What does it look like I’m doing?” Before adding. “I just finished sucking your husband's dick. I swallowed too, if you must know.” My hands flew to my stomach, and memories flooded in all at once—our memories. I remembered her whispered reassurances, how I never wanted to talk about my marriage until she kept telling me I could trust her, that she was on my side, and that she cared. But all along, she had been sleeping with him behind my back. My vision blurred as I stumbled backward, my heart pounding in my ears. And just then, she spoke again, snapping the thread that held me together. “Oh, please don't act so innocent! You're fucking his brother too! You're the disgusting whore.” “You sick bitch!” I screamed. “You pretended to be my friend! I trusted you!” I couldn't remember crossing the room. One moment I stood frozen, the next I was on the bed, throwing myself at her, rage bursting from my chest. “Get off me!” she shrieked. “You stupid whore! Who the fuck do you think you are laying hands on me?” We tumbled off the bed in a violent tangle of thrashing arms and legs, landing hard on the floor. But I barely felt the blow, determined to gouge her eyes out before rough hands grabbed me from behind. Greyson yanked me back, screaming at us to stop, but the room dissolved into chaos as she screamed, words spilling from her mouth about how I knew exactly what I was, how I needed to remember my place, and how my husband needed to put me in my place. But her voice came and went. I was floating somewhere far away until a blow to the face sent me falling on my side. Pain cracked across my face, blinding as I crumpled to the floor with a gasp before warmth slid down my neck… blood. Hands fisted into my collar, but we were quickly ripped apart, and I was dragged upright just as I heard a thud on the opposite side of the wall. I looked up to see his face twisted with rage as he growled once more for me to stop, but I was not listening. I tore myself away from him, grabbed a vase, and threw it at the snake bitch. “Katarina! Stop it! What the hell do you think you’re doing?” My husband's hands found me again, and I didn't even register the impact as I fell. The dizziness returned in waves as I tried to crawl back up, and I barely heard him yelling for help, even as his voice boomed through the room. The next thing I felt were softer hands on my back, trembling and desperate, followed by an equally desperate voice. “Come, Luna. Please,” the old woman pleaded. “Come with me.” But my rage hadn't subsided, and I tore myself away from her, lunging forward again as I screamed his name, demanding answers, and asking him what I had done to deserve this. Why would he hurt me like this? Humiliate like this? Why would he do this to me? “I never asked for my bloodline! The gods made me what I am! Why do you punish me, Greyson Thornfield?!” But he looked away. “Get her out,” he snapped. “Now!” he turned to the old woman. “Get her out before I lose it.” The old woman clung to me, crying now as she begged, “Please, Luna. Think of the baby.” “Stop calling me that!” I screamed, thrashing against her hold. “I’m not your Luna! I never was!” My throat ached as the words flowed from my mouth. “Just end it! Take my life so you can be free!” I attempted to run back to him, but hotel security rushed in and grabbed me from all sides, lifting me off the floor as I screamed his name. He did not look at me as he told them to take me back to our suite. People stood just outside the door, delegates from the summit, looking at me as I was dragged out screaming and kicking. Lunas clutched their Alphas, some with tears in their eyes, others in shock, as I collapsed in the guard's hands, staring up at the gods who cursed me. “Please kill me. Please!”KATARINAThe elders led me down the quiet corridors of the pack house until we came to a big wooden door at the end of the hall. One of them pushed it open, and warm air greeted us, carrying the aroma of herbs and something sweet and earthy. “This is where the cleansing will take place," one of the elders explained as I stepped inside. The room was dimly lit by rows of candles burning on the stone walls. Their flames flickered softly while incense from small bronze bowls scattered around the room slowly curled into the air, emitting a soothing scent of wildflowers. In the center of the room stood a large stone bath, and steam rose gently from the water inside while flower petals floated on the surface. “Please remove your dress and step into the bath, Luna," the elders said, and I complied, neatly folding the fabric on a nearby bench before carefully entering the water. It was just warm enough to relax my muscles, and I sank slowly until the water reached my shoulders. The elders mo
KATARINA“Why can’t it be Cyra?” The words came out before I could stop them. “I like Cyra.” But Greyson’s expression tightened almost instantly. “It can’t be Cyra,” he said sharply, and the impatience in his voice made me flinch. The air between us fell into a heavy silence, like there was something he wasn’t telling me, before I lowered my gaze and nodded, feeling crushed.“Okay. You can choose for me then.” My heart sank as I said it and sat down next to him, placing the cookie container on the table in front of me. Greyson sighed and turned toward me, visibly trying to fix his expression. His voice was calmer as he spoke again. “Cyra isn’t well,” he said. “She can’t carry on with the duty anymore.”The realization hit me then that I had stepped out of line. I liked Cyra. But this wasn’t the time to push my feelings about it. Greyson had far bigger things weighing on him, and besides, Cyra was also acting strange, which meant Greyson was probably right, and she couldn’t do the dut

He’d never just walked in here and kissed me like this before. He staggered a step back, looking just as shocked, like he had lost control of himself and had only now realized what he had done. He turned to look at my aunt, who stood in the doorway, her eyes wide with shock. For a moment, none of us moved, and then Alexander found his voice. “Mrs. Sanders—” he started, greeting her stiffly, but my aunt couldn’t even respond and just stared at him. He swallowed hard, then turned back to me, and I could barely breathe as I whispered. “Please go.” He didn’t argue, and his face bunched in what looked like shame before the door closed beh
GREYSONI stood there for a long time, saying nothing, while Cyra walked slowly and carefully toward me, as if she were approaching a wounded animal that could lash out at any moment.“Greyson..." she whispered, her voice trembling, but she kept moving. “I was scared. I was afraid of losing you.” Every word scraped against my nerves. “I heard your father speak to you that morning, and I panicked when I saw the disgust in his eyes, the contempt with which he confronted you about me."My jaw tightened, but I was still unable to speak or move. “He told you that he wanted me to leave the stronghold, which meant leaving you with her. I was afraid she'd take you from me." Something inside me finally snapped, and I closed the gap between us in long strides before she could take another step.“So you killed my father? " I growled, reaching out and roughly grabbing her shoulders as I shook her. “You took him away from me! You broke my heart." Her eyes widened with fear as I continued. “Who el
GREYSONThe fire had long since burned down to embers, and only faint heat remained where the pyre had stood, glowing red beneath a blanket of ash. The forest had grown quiet in the clearing, but I could still hear the pack beyond the trees. It was like a distant engine, low voices and laughter breaking through grief, along with the clatter of mugs. No one slept after the warfire of an alpha; his life was celebrated until dawn. Meats were roasted while ale and stories flowed over and over again until they became legend. But my brother and I hadn’t joined them.We had stayed in the woods, leaning against an old oak a few feet from the ashes of our father. A bottle hung loosely from my hand, and I had lost count of how many we had opened. I just knew that we should have been drunk enough, but we weren’t. Our hearts were too heavy for that mercy.Alexander let out a quiet laugh beside me, shaking his head. “Remember when he caught us trying to sneak out to the lower cliffs?” I huffed a
CYRAI kept pushing, elbow to shoulder and shoulder to back, until the clearing in front of me began to open, and the torches expanded into a ring of firelight. The pyre crackled louder, the heat brushing against my face from a distance. And then I saw him: my Greyson. He stood at the head of the massive wooden pyre, the firelight illuminating his features, and he didn't look like the man I knew. He looked like the king of grief, and my legs locked.I couldn't move any further, despite my decision to stand in the front line and let him see me. Instead, the lake came rushing back behind my eyelids, and I saw his eyes, unrecognizable and wild, as he dragged me out of the car. I felt the rage that radiated from him as he threw me into that water, and I could feel his hands around my neck, my throat burning as if phantom fingers were pressing on it.I tried to take a step forward, telling myself time had passed since then—trying to remember everything I told myself back in my apartment—b
