Violetta’s POV

No response. That was suspicious.

“Step back,” the healer said protectively.

There was no noise for a moment, and then we heard footsteps.

Slower. Slower.

Then boom!

I heard the large door bolt unlock, and the door swung open.

She was right. It wasn't Caleb. It was a soldier from the attacking side. He pointed his weapon at us, and fear hooked me to the spot.

“Surrender or die!”

“On your knees, child. On your knees,” the healer said, going down on one knee.

But I just froze. For some reason, my legs wouldn't move. I was shaking all over, begging myself to fall off; that would get me to the ground. But my body felt paralyzed to the spot.

“Surrender! Now!” the other soldier shouted, his weapon targeted towards me as well.

But still my legs wouldn't move, wouldn't go down, and wouldn't bend.

“Another life-or-death situation”

“Please. She's just scared,” the healer said. Even her eyes pleaded with me.

“Keep shut!”

He steadied his weapon at me.
