She opened up

Eva’s POV

‘It’s peaceful and comfortable now. The time I spent suffering in prison made me believe that was my life.’

I thought with my eyes closed, trying hard to sleep because it was awkward. I assume Brendon is here, staring at me. I hear someone’s steps walking inside the room, but I no longer want to concentrate. I want to have a good night’s sleep for now.

I allowed the darkness to take over me, immersing me in a relaxing zone. Hours later, I started seeing the shadows of blood traders. Then I heard the sinister laugh of the manager who used to torture me every day in the prison.

He was standing in front of me with his disgusting scary face eyeing down at me. He was holding his whip, ready to lash at me any minute. I wanted to move, but my hands and ankles were locked on the hospital bed’s handle. I couldn’t move; the darkness surrounding me ignited with a murderous red light as the manager raised his hand to whip me.

My heart shrank in terror, and a series of torture thoughts rushed inside my head, making me insanely scared. I opened my mouth, storing enough strength, and then I shouted. My hands were struggling to get rid of this; the manager was going to land his whip on me... Suddenly I heard someone’s voice.

“EVA..., wake up. Are you alright?” I heard a deep voice, yet caring. I continued to struggle until a hand from the air pulled me out of the dark prison. I opened my eyes in shock, discovering myself in the arms of Brendon.

My eyes roamed around; I was not in prison but in my hospital wardroom. Just then, a warm hand patted my back,” Did you have the nightmare?” I nodded my head, goosebumps still sending me chills. Cold sweat dripped down my forehead, and my underwear was drenched in sweat too.

Brendon takes out his handkerchief and, holding my face in his hand, he wipes off the sweat from my face and neckline. My eyes stared at him in bewilderment, and it was like I had known this person from the very beginning of my life. I could feel something inside me melting for this man.

Turning my face to the other side, I murmured,” You can stop; I’m fine.”

“Ah, I’m sorry,” he said as he got up. He puts the handkerchief inside his pocket, which he used for wiping off my sweat. WHY?

“Do you wanna eat something?” he asked, pointing his finger at the table. I saw some snacks, porridge, oats and juice.

I nodded my head eagerly because I’d been eating rotten meat since the day I was imprisoned in the dungeon. I never got the taste of those crispy fries and soupy porridge.

Brendon smiles; he picks up the food tray and gently places it in front of me, “you can eat them, he says nicely.”

As soon as he said that, my hands grabbed the fries and juice. Pushing the fries in my mouth, I hurriedly drink the juice. I felt like the food would be snatched away from me if I didn’t finish it in a minute.

Like a hungry animal, I lashed out at the porridge, drinking it like an uncultured slave. The soupy porridge started leaking through my mouth, dirtying my clean hospital robe. “Will I get slapped for behaving disgracefully?” My past traumatic experience hinted at the terror inside me. I placed the bowl aside and started rubbing the robe with my hands.

“STOP!” He grabbed my hand and softly said,” Eva, I don’t know what hard times you’ve been through but trust me I’ll never let anyone torture you. Never again, I promise.”

His words melted the cold heart inside me. For the first time in my life, I sensed the affectionate truth from a male. Before, every man used to look at me with lust in their creepy eyes; they would fake promises to get my body, but this guy. “Can I trust him?” I, too, want to share my sufferings with someone. “Is he the one I should open up to?”

With a stuttering voice, I muttered,” I…I’m an Omega-ranking werewolf who was abducted by blood traders and made into a slave.”

“Do you know how they captured you?” Brendon asked immediately. I nodded sideways.

“No, I can’t recall how I ended up captured. I can’t remember my family, pack or my past 18 years of life.”

He patted my shoulder and said, “It’s alright. I’ll help you regain your memories slowly.”

His hand was warm, and I could feel my hair at the back straightening up in an unknown sensation. I looked up, then said,” T…They used to drain out my blood once a week and then throw me back into the prison.” My voice started getting heavy as the haunting thoughts crept in. My eyes filled with tears, but I still tried to suppress them. “I…I was given rotten meat to eat...”

Just before I could say anything further, Brendon pulled me close and hugged me tightly. “I’m sorry; I’m truly sorry for all you’ve gone through.”

I couldn’t hold my tears anymore. I sobbed for an hour in his arms. It was relaxing to cry out in the presence of someone who cared for me.

“Don’t hold back from now onwards. You should never let your emotions bottled up inside you,” he said those warm words with a pleasant smile.

After that, he helped me clean my robe and then gave me my medications. When I laid back on the bed, he got up, ready to take his leave.

“You should now take a rest; I’ll come back again...”

“Please don’t leave me...”

I grabbed his wrist, hoping that he could talk a little bit more.

I don’t know why I said those cheeky words. I guess I wanted him to stay by my side so that I wouldn’t have any nightmares about what had happened.
