Adonis’s POV

Her cry reverberated through the room. Certainly, my people would have heard her screaming.

The rumors had already started about the half breed in my house and for now they still believe she is a prisoner, it won’t be long before the start questioning why she hasn’t been executed yet. Or why Nate had saved her from execution.

So far, the only people that are aware of my curse were Fang, Helga and I and I planned to keep it that way until I’ve gotten a cure or I die and would not have to explain why I got cursed. I will take that secret to my grave.

The earlier I get the half breed’s blood to Helga, the earlier a cure can be made for me and I can finally get rid of her.

I will kill you, Nate growled as he fought to take over my body.

I shut my eyes as I struggled to remain in charge, the rapid beating of Vee’s petrified heart riled Nate up, making it even more difficult to keep him in.

Quickly, I retrieved a small vial from the back of my pocket and placed her bleeding wrist over the vial.

As soon as the vial got filled up, I let go of her hand and she staggered backwards. She glared at me with confused, scared eyes, clutching her bleeding wrist. But the fire still raged in her orby blue eyes and I knew she would still try to escape again at the slightest chance she got.

I was certain, her slit wrist would heal quickly, Helga’s healing serum was still in her body. And that managed to put Nate at ease.

Nate’s obsession with this half breed is beginning to feel like a problem, I would have to find a way to deal with it. Soon. I would rather die from the curse than to claim a pathetic half breed.

With one last glance at her, I walked out, locking the door behind me.

Helga was chanting and dancing - waving her hands in the air, while her flay skirt floated around her knee – in front of her tent. A morning ritual she performed in appreciation of the goddess.

I waited until she had finished before following her into her tent which reeked of potions and death. With different furs of wolves hanging from the leather wall and snakes contained in a liquid filled jar. Fat, red candles positioned strategically, lit up the tent with their dull, flimsy flames.

Helga was a very odd woman.

“Did you get it?” she asked as she discarded her scarf that had been wrapped around her shoulder.

I handed her the vial, she narrowed her gaze as she took the vial from me. “She gave it to you?”

I scoffed. “What do you think?”

She muttered under her breath as she placed the vial in a skull. “Are you sure you want to do this?” she had an unsure look in her eyes.

I shrugged. I was dying so I had nothing to lose, if this even had a .1 percent chance of healing me, I would take it in a heartbeat. “I trust you,” I said honestly.

She nodded.

“Have you told her what is going on? She must be confused.”

“What does it matter? I will execute her after all this.”

A weird look flashed in her eyes and she quickly turned her back to me, fiddling with a dead stem of flower. “Why would you want to do that?”

Where was this concern for a half breed coming from? I furrowed my brows. She still talks about what the last group of half breeds did. How they wreaked havoc and my people were still recovering.

“Humans can’t be trusted. This half breed stole from me the moment she got the chance. Heck, she is a fucking call girl!”

Helga turned to face me, a worried look on her crinkled features. “You shouldn’t have brought her at all. Something is coming Adonis.”

***

My thoughts kept going back to what Helga said, ‘something is coming.’

I always knew that half breeds were trouble and Vee was no different. The earlier I got rid of her, the better for all of us.

“Adonis!” Fang called out breathlessly from behind me.

I spun around. Fang was jogging towards me, shirtless. Lately, seeing Fang stresses me out. He always bore disturbing news or pressuring me to do ‘the right thing’.

Fang was the only one I trusted with what truly was going on, even though I didn’t tell him why the witch cursed me. If there was anyone I would trust to take over as the new Lycan king of my kingdom, if I did not survive the curse, it would be him. He was beyond capable.

“I was searching everywhere for you,” he said as soon as he caught up.

The sun had already risen, and the yard was crawling with young soldiers running towards the training ground and the morning shift warriors heading to their post.

We walked to a quiet area of the yard, under one of the huge umbrella trees. “Did you find out who those men where and what they wanted from her?”

“If Nate had speared one of the men, we would have found out what they wanted with her,” Fang said and I rolled my eyes. “But, they are Vico’s men. I just don’t know how they were able to enter our territory.”

Vico was becoming more and more bold. He made himself the Alpha of the Whitlock, a group of half breeds and witches trying to destroy werewolves. They have been growing more and more over the years, recruiting new half breeds and witches.

I have been meaning to call a meeting of the council of Lycan kings, which I was their leader. The council is made up twelve Lycan kings, representing the twelve wolf kingdoms. But with my protection pearl going missing and bringing of Vee into my pack, I have been pretty much occupied.

Now Vico is sending his men into my lands, I had to nip this shit in the bud soon or I might have another war with half breeds on my hand.

“Maybe they know she is a half breed,” that had to be why they wanted her.

“How would he know that we had a half breed?” Fang asked.

I rubbed my chin. And then it clicked. She might be working for Vico and when Vico found out that she had gone missing, he figured that I took her.

Fucking half breeds!

“Have the messenger send letters to the members of the Lycan kings council, requesting they convene in two weeks for an urgent meeting,” I said.

Fang nodded and started to leave but stopped. “Before I forget, Selene sent a message.”

I arched an eyebrow.

“She is coming.”

Fuck!

  • The Lycan King's Game    40 – The Handsome Stranger

Vee’s POV I munched on my toast quietly, looking out the window at intervals for any sign of Nena. She had been gone since noon, yesterday. I was getting worried. It reminds me of nights when Vera would disappear without a word, and I would be up all night worrying my ass off where she could possibly be. Vera. I hope she’s okay. I lost my phone so I had no means of contacting her. Maybe when Nena returns I could borrow her phone and call Vera. I glanced out the window and there she was, Nena, mumbling to herself. She looked upset, and she looked hilarious in those clothes. What happened to the clothes she had on yesterday? “Should you be out of bed?” was the first thing Nena said to me as soon as she entered the house. “I was hungry. Had to make breakfast.” She gave me an apologetic look. “Sorry I wasn’t here to make you breakfast. I got caught up yesterday.” “I can take care of myself,” I smiled, but I had to admit it felt nice to be taken care of for a change.

  • The Lycan King's Game    39 – Pancakes, Bacon and eggs

Fang’s POVI watched as her chest rose and fell in deep slumber. Nena looked completely drained, with her skin paler than anything I have ever seen. First time transformation was draining and the most painful thing that anyone could ever feel, with all the bones in your body breaking, expanding and rearranging itself. It felt like been torn open from the inside out. I had not just experienced it, I have seen hundreds of young soldiers transform for the first time and I have also assisted Kene in training them and helping them control their beast. So I can say with certainty that this was her first transformation. The question is, why now?I adjusted uncomfortable in the couch. After the kind of day I had, I deserved to be in my bed right now. But instead, I have to sit in the couch and watch over Nena as she slept in my bed. There was a chance her wolf might manifest again, especially since Nena does not know how to control it yet.I sighed as I pushed myself to my feet and sa

  • The Lycan King's Game    38 – Blood thirst

Nena’s POVMy wolf was calling for blood. Fang’s blood. She wanted revenge for how he had hurt us. She had felt our pain all those years ago, she had felt the wolf bond been forcefully ripped apart by the one man that was supposed to protect us and preserve our sacred bond. As much as Fang had left me broken and alone, I did not want to fight him, I most certainly did not want to spill his blood. But my wolf was in control. She was too strong. I couldn’t stop her or morph back into my human form. Maybe if Fang remained inside his house, he just might be safe….He stepped out. With alert eyes darting around, Fang, stood in the doorway of his house. His eyes found me almost immediately—wide, startled—but it only lasted a second. Then my wolf lunged.A roar ripped from my chest as we charged, the earth shaking beneath each thunderous paw. I could see his lips move, maybe a curse, maybe my name, but I didn’t care. Not me.Her.My wolf. She struck where his heart should have

  • The Lycan King's Game    37 – Awakening

Nena’s POVThe cave was cold, despite the flames that danced in the iron bowls lining the walls. The firelight flickered across the Helga’s face—her eyes were closed, her lips murmuring a chant older than memory, the kind that made the air feel too heavy to breathe.I knelt before her, naked, bare feet pressed against the rough stone, knees bruised from the hard ground. My fingers trembled in my lap, though I tried to still them. The copper tang of dried blood lingered in my mouth from the offering. My offering. This was a choice I made, then why was I feeling so scared.Tonight, I would either become who I was meant to be or die trying. Whichever way it pans out, I will accept it as the will of the goddess. The chant stop. I glanced up to find Helga staring down at me, worried lines framing her face. “It’s not to late to change your mind yet, Nena.”As tempting as that sounded, I had to do this. It was the only way I would be strong enough to defeat my enemies. “I want this.”

  • The Lycan King's Game    36 - No limp

Adonis’s POV “Your leaving?” “I am.” “I thought you would want to watch till the end,” he said, a hint of disappointment in his tone. “I have something important to deal with,” I said and began walking away. Kene followed behind me. “Your highness, I want to be part of the team going south to investigate the wolf pack." I paused, eyeing him from the corner of my eyes. I haven’t ev

  • The Lycan King's Game    35 - The garden

Nena’s POV The strange woman still hadn’t woken up. After I brought her home yesterday, I tried to reach Helga. I had even gone by her place, but it had been locked. I guess it had something to do with the unbound incident. I had to invite Lydia, a nurse and a former close friend of Ezra, to take a look. Lydia had tended to the woman’s wounds and injected her with some antibiotics and painkillers since her wounds weren’t healing on its own. It wasn’t unusual for Lycan’s to be unable to heal themselves. Only manifested Lycan’s could heal on their own, Lycan’s who could transform. The binding spell on me, meant that I could never manifest, hence I could not heal on my own. I had hoped that the woman would wake up before the end of the day, to at least tell me who she was and how to reach out to her family. Besides, I don’t exactly know how to take care of people. Heck, I have never had to take care of anyone or anything in my life, just my garden. She would be in better
