The Commoner

Alyssa

I walk out of the room, roaming around, and I ended up in the gardens overlooking the sacred room. There’s a fountain in the middle of the garden with illumination-led lights.

I smile at myself. This is beautiful. But looking around, there’s no lavender. Why did I pick up that scent of Lavender? It’s close.

I inhale deeply as I look around the garden. I have a feeling that someone is here. My mate? I inwardly ask myself. My eyes wander around the garden, but I can’t see the person who is there.

“Who are you? Come out!”

I hesitated.

But no one is coming out. I must have been imagining things. We should probably head back inside. I turn around to leave.

The sudden rustling sound of leaves causes me to turn around. Ligia doesn’t seem scared. I approach the flowers and the scent is Delicate it is musky.

I know you are there!” I affirmed, walking towards the tree where the sound was coming from.

I inhale sharply.

It’s a wolf! A man. A mere werewolf. I think to myself as I swiftly move towards the tree, but there’s no one. Looking around me, I swallow. My heart is racing. I was imagining things.

I want to turn around to leave when I feel the sudden presence behind me. Swallowing hard, I turn around to look at the man.

A commoner. My eyes trail on him as I swallow hard his in a ragged t-shirt with blue jeans and brown Boots. His muscles almost ripping out, He must work out a lot.

Messy hair and forest eyes with full lips. He eyes me like a predator eying its prey. My heart is racing so fast, his scent hitting my nostrils, lavender. A faint smell of his cologne. I can’t make out what it is, but I am drawn to it.

He is not my mate. But why am I drawn to his scent?

The scent of lavender was gloomy, delicate yet so captivating. I take a step backward, wanting to leave. I prepare myself mentally to scream at the top of my voice if he tries to do anything.

I know just a shriek from me would send him flying, but Jason has cautioned me about letting people know about my ability.

“Who are you?” I inquired. Tilting my head to look at him, he looks like a mere wolf, but something tells me there’s more to him.

“You are not Princess Calliope,” he stated.

His deep husky voice sent shivers down my spine> so he here for calliope? Who is he? Her secret lover.

“Hate to disappoint.” I retorted.

His eyes trail on my body once again as he takes a step closer to me> what is he thinking? “You have beautiful eyes,” He remarked.

I am not interested in chatting with him. Why is Ligia comfortable around him? She usually growls at any man who tries to touch us.

He walks over to where I am standing, and I don’t take a step back.

He reaches for my face, before he touches me I grab his hand, stopping him from touching me. I can’t let a commoner touch me. There’s an electrifying feeling and I quickly remove my hand as he growls.

A spark. He must have felt it as well.

“Who are you?” He asks in a deep, hushed whisper.

His curious but since he can’t tell me who he was, then I was not going to tell him who I was. “I asked you who are you?” He with a straight face, his eyes looking deep into mine. My heart skips a beat.

He reaches again to touch me, and this time I don’t stop him. He gently strokes my cheek. His softness on my cheek makes me close my eyes. “What’s your name, little one?”

He wondered.

Little one? I am old enough and I bet his not older than Jason. “Little one? Who the hell do you think you are calling me, little one?” I retorted, moving back from him as he growls.

He wants to respond, but we both hear the sound of footsteps approaching the garden. I turn to him, my eyes widening and he growls, inhaling sharply>

“I guess this is my cue!” He growled, turning around and disappearing into the trees. I let out an exasperated sigh, turning around and heading through the glass doors.

Making my way into the castle, the men approaching suddenly stop looking at me. “Princess Alyssa” They bow their heads. Do they know my name? Who are they?

‘Warriors. They are not from around here,’ Ligia informs me as I nod. Walking away from them, I need to get back to my room and freshen up for the dinner later.

Hours move quickly by and before I know it, I have to choose what I will wear to dinner. We are the first few people to arrive here and I am hoping the people that we will be meeting are not snobs.

I quickly take a shower and by the time I am coming out of the room, Frey has already picked a dress for me to wear.

“What do you think?” She asks me. I hate the dress. Matter of fact, I ate dresses and skirts but I have to wear them because here, I have to carry myself like a princess.

I wore a pink floral deep v-neck and pleated waist dress with bishop sleeves. Because I was too tired and jetlagged, I settled for flat sandals. It was just dinner, after all.

Frey wore a dark blue floor-length dress and flips. She tied her hair back, as she always does.

Making my way into the dining hall, I found other guests had arrived. Looking around, I was hoping to at least see a familiar face, a smile curled up on my face when she saw Jason chatting with some people.

Many of them knew each other from their previous meetings, but it was my first time here. I didn’t want to cling to Jason’s hand, so I had to make sure I find people whom I could interact with.

“Do recognise anyone here?” I mind-linked Frey, hoping maybe I can find a familiar face, but there was no one.

“Luna Isabela, Moonstone pack. You met her last year at her daughter’s wedding,” Frey quickly responded as I approached the lady. The old lady seemed like someone I can easily have a conversation with. I mean, we got along well last time.

“Allie?”

Someone called her name as she turned around, smiling vividly at the blonde who was approaching her. She knew very well who it was.

“Nia!” I exclaimed.

“Look at you. Oh my god, I can’t believe that you are here,” Nia beamed, pulling me in a hug.

‘How have you been? How’s Jason?”

Nia blabbered as I shrugged her shoulder, grinning from ear to ear.

‘Come on. I want you to meet some people” Nia grabbed me by my hand walking around the hall as she introduced me around, it seems I had a reputation around here.

After getting acquainted, we went to the main hall where we were going to be having dinner. I sat next to Jason and Diego, listening to the chatter, and having to put up a smile throughout was the exhausting part of the job.

“Princess Alyssa, you are unmated, right?” King Theodore inquired while chewing on his steak, the sound of him smacking his lips while eating irritating in my ears.

‘Yes. I am unmated,” I replied, wondering why he was suddenly interested in me being unmated. Did it bother him that I was here, and I was unmated?

“Good. There you have your solutions with Kaleb” He turned to Jason with a smirk on his face drinking from his wineglass.

‘What is he talking about?’ I mind link Jason who seems to be pondering about what the king just said.

“She is unmated, and Kaleb is widowed. The two can get married a-and,” the King smiled at me.

I choked on my own words, looking at him as everyone looked at me, glaring at me as I looked around. “King Kaleb? Marriage?” I hesitated.

I had to be sure if they were even thinking of making me off. “Yes. Marriage. It is a union that can strengthen the two relationships and make trade easier in your pack,” King Theodore says to me as I fuzzed out, wondering what Jason will say.

The Bloodlust Pack? I have never wanted to get married to another man apart from my mate. I can’t accept this.
