Melindana’s POV

We’ve been sitting in silence for a while, it was not awkward, surprisingly, just the kind that neither of us seemed in a rush to fill, and I heard his breathing change.

Not so loud. Just slightly off, like something was happening behind his ribs that he was working to keep from showing on his face. I watched him from the corner of my eye and said nothing and waited to see what he would do with it.

He pressed his hand flat against his chest and his jaw tightened while he exhaled

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    She Showed Up

Luca and Hailey’s POVHailey had picked our seats herself.Third row of the viewing gallery, centre, the best possible position to be seen without appearing to have chosen it for that reason. She had been ready an hour before we needed to leave, dressed, hair done, sitting at the edge of the bedroom chair like someone who had somewhere important to be and intended to arrive looking like it.I watched her check her reflection one more time in the car and said nothing. The hall was already full when we arrived, every family of standing in the town turning out, the energy sitting somewhere between reverence and barely contained curiosity. We took our seats and Hailey folded her hands in her lap and looked at the ceremony floor and I looked at the candidate line forming along the left wall.Fifteen women. All single, all of status, all dressed with the careful precision of people who understood what today meant.“She’s not coming,” H

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Lock Her In

Hailey’s POVI watched her walk out of that boutique with the gold dress in a bag and a smile she hadn’t even bothered to hide and I sat at that consultation table with two declined cards in front of me and a boutique assistant looking anywhere but at my face and I thought about everything I had given up to be sitting in this town in this house in this situation. Two years. Two years of being patient and soft and careful and saying the right things at the right volume and laughing at the right moments and making sure Luca always felt like the smartest person in the room. Two years of building something carefully, brick by brick, and then that woman had walked out of that house on an anniversary night and come back different and everything I had built started shifting in ways I could not control.I picked up my cards and put them in my bag and smiled at the assistant and walked out.By the time I got home I had made a decision.Lu

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Declined

Melindana’s POVThe boutique on Fifth was the kind of place that did not put prices on anything in the window because if you needed to ask you were probably in the wrong building. I had walked past it twice in the past week and both times made a mental note to come back and today was that day.Julie held the door and I walked in and the assistant at the front desk looked up and straightened immediately in the way people straightened when they recognised money walking through their door.“Luna Ivory,” she said. “Welcome.”I nodded and moved past her into the floor. The dress was on the third rail I checked. Deep gold, fitted through the body, a neckline that sat exactly right, the fabric catching the boutique light in a way that said it had been made by someone who understood what they were doing. I pulled it from the rail and held it against myself in the floor mirror and Julie made a sound behind me that meant yes without saying it.“This one,” I said.“Excellent choice,” the assista

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Including The Lunas

Melindana’s POVI heard some voices speaking in a hush tone, coming from the kitchen. Two of the maids were talking over each other, voices pitched higher than the morning called for, something about the palace and an announcement and all the women in the town. I was still in bed when the noise reached me and by the time I came downstairs for breakfast the whole house had the energy of a place where something significant had just landed.Julie was at the table when I sat down, pouring tea with her eyes bright and her mouth pressed together in the way it went when she had information she was deciding how to deliver.“Just say it,” I said. She set the teapot down. “The Lycan King has announced a formal ceremony, Luna. A mate-finding ceremony. All the women of status in the town have been invited to attend as candidates.” She paused. “The announcement went out this morning. The whole town is talking about it.”I reached for my cup. “When.”“In three days time.”I nodded and sipped my tea

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    The Devil Never Takes A Day Off

Melindana’s POVI was back on that road again, the same road from the night I died. Not watching it this time, not seeing it from the outside the way the other dreams came. I was in it. I felt the concrete very cold under my hands, the dress soaked through, the back of my skull bleeding, blood was literally gushing out, and I immediately saw the two men dragging the bag strap from my hand while I wrestled with them, the shove and then the rock and then nothing, absolute nothing. I sat up gasping, every part of my body shaking, especially my hands. The room was dark, I sat there in the middle of Bella’s bed in Bella’s body breathing like I had just run from something and could still hear it behind me.“Luna.” Julie was already in the doorway, hair loose, robe half tied, with her eyes wide. “Luna what happened, are you alright….”“I’m fine,” I said, which was not true but was the first thing that came out.Julie came in anyway and sat on the edge of the bed and looked at me with the e

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Why Do You Ask

Aurelius’s POVLuca walked in like he owned the floor and sat down across from me without being invited to sit and placed a folder on the table between us like a man who believed he had come prepared.I looked at the folder, then at him.“Your Majesty.” He straightened in his seat. “I appreciate you granting me this audience. I’ll get straight to the point.”“Please.”He opened the folder and turned it toward me. “I’ve compiled a full record, mostly testimonies from pack members, documented incidents, and formal complaints from staff going back eighteen months. Bella has consistently failed in her responsibilities as Luna of Cinderclaw. What’s in that folder is not my opinion, it’s evidence.”I did not look at the folder.Luca noticed and kept going. “The pack is suffering for it, Your Majesty. Morale is low. The staff operate in fear. Pack members have lost confidence in Cinderclaw’s leadership because of her. I have tried to manage the situation privately but it has reached a point
