At the dawn of the year, fourteen hundred, the Lycans came out of hiding and brought war onto Humans. The Lycans were powerful and skilled in combat, unlike the humans. They conquered the Humans and ruled over them. The Lycan King of that century was cruel and turned every Human into a slave or a sex worker. After two hundred years, from the human slaves came a man with the name Vitalis. He despised the werewolves and their rule, along with some other Humans. They secretly learned combat skills from the Lycan army. Once they became strong, they led a war against the Lycans. They were strong but not as strong as the Lycans. They fought well and slew one-fourth of the Lycans, while their numbers remained less than half. The Lycan King decided to end the war by bringing forth a proposition. He offered a treaty for peace to reign, he wanted to ally with Humans. In exchange for peace to reign, he would marry the first daughter of Vitalis, whom he thought was beautiful. Vitalis was reluctant but the other Humans convinced him to relent, that his sacrifice would last for generations to come.Vitalis agreed and gave his daughter's hand in marriage to the Lycan King. Because of the bravery and sacrifice made by Vitalis, he was crowned the King of the Humans. The treaty of peace would hold so long as every century, a Vitalis daughter would marry the then Lycan King. But they could not predict what would befall them in the hundreds of years to come.***Chapter 1Hope"Light, are you ready?" I asked my twin, and her green eyes glinted in mischief as she nodded. We both took off our robes, then dove into the open lake, making loud splash sounds. Once we resurfaced, our smiles mirrored each other.Even though we were twins, we looked nothing alike. Our only similarities were the shape of our eyes—siren—and the colors of our hair—jet black. And while I wore my hair long, Light wore hers short. That was where the similarities stopped, we even had different mannerisms. We danced inside the lake, giggling, playing, and singing. Crows flew above us in the bright sky. I looked up, watching them for a while before I turned my attention back to Light."I'm going to miss you," I whispered. She smiled sadly, then burst into a fit of laughter."Stop talking like I'm going away forever. I'm just getting married, it's not that huge. Besides, you can come visit me anytime you want." She said flippantly, then started swimming back to shore.I chased after her. By the time I got to land, she had already worn her robe and was drying her hair. I walked out of the water and did the same."Really? I can come visit anytime?" I asked with uncertainty. She nodded, throwing the towel away."You can even come live with Darius and I." She suggested."Darius…" I repeated. The name tasted bitter in my tongue. He was the Lycan King who Light was going to get married to.I had only met him once, and that was when my family and I were invited to the Lycan Palace for Light's engagement two years ago. He was mean and looked like he wanted to kill everyone on sight.Somehow, Light said that was just his resting face, and that he was very nice—at least to her. I didn't think he was nice. I was afraid for my sister who was going to chain herself down to him."Yes, sister. My soon-to-be husband is the best person in the world. I can't wait to finally be with him." Light said with a lovestruck tone, and I stared at her blankly."He doesn't look like it," I muttered as we started walking back home to our castle. Light laughed."Trust me," she said, looking into my eyes. "He's harmless."I didn't say anything after that until we got back to the castle. The time set for Light's wedding was drawing close, so I bid Light farewell in the meantime, then decided to go back to my chambers and prepare myself. My handmaids kept on gushing about how beautiful the Lycans they had seen were. I couldn't care less for their beauty. I only cared about how they would treat my sister once she went away with them.Once my maids were done preparing me, I looked at myself through my dressing mirror. They had braided my hair with pins adorning each side, then planted a tiara at the top of my head. My cleavage was on for show and my corset was a bit too tight. My maids said that I had to look beautiful as I would be the next to get married, and men would be watching me.I was wearing pink—the color for waiting maidens. I didn't like being considered a maiden. I turned to my maids, my light brown eyes fixated on them."Thank you," I said to the three ladies, and they bowed their heads in respect. "I have to go get Light now. I'll see you all after the wedding." I added, then walked out of my chambers and sought for Light. Her room was down the hall, away from mine. We had been put in separate rooms because Light fought for her privacy when she was thirteen. I had no problem with whatever she wanted so I had agreed with her then.Once I came face-to-face with her door, I knocked twice, then waited for her to answer. After ten seconds of silence, I decided to knock again."Light? It is me, your sister. Open the door." I said, knocking repeatedly but I was met with silence. I turned the handle of the door and discovered that the door was open all along.I let out a sigh, then walked inside the room. "Light? I've come to fetch you. Your wedding is about to start. The moon is bright, isn't it?" I walked around the room, searching for Light, but I found her nowhere.I decided to check her washroom but it was empty. Where was she?"Light? Where are you? Are you trying to trick me?" I went to her bed, pulling away the cover but she wasn't hiding underneath it.I marched for her windows, checking the curtains to see if she hid behind them but she wasn't there as well. I started to panic. I clutched my chest as I raced to my parents' study room. People along the way tried to tell me that running was 'unladylike' but I paid them no mind.I only stopped running when I got to the room, not waiting to catch my breath before I started ranting off."Mother, Father. There's a problem." I said breathlessly, and they both looked at me with wide eyes. They were already dressed in fancy attires for Light's wedding. They both looked panicked and quite uneasy but I shrugged it off. My Mother reached out to me, as though she wanted me to calm down but I couldn't do that."I went to Light's room to fetch her but she wasn't there. I searched the entire chamber but I couldn't find her. I fear that she might have run away. I don't understand. We just parted ways to get ready but she's not anywhere anymore!" I raised my voice gradually as I spoke, and my parents paled."Should we send in guards to check round the castle? Maybe I'm just being paranoid and she's somewhere in the castle. Or did Light seriously run away? If she did, then why?" I tried to wrap my head around the entire thing."You tell me." A deep masculine voice said from behind me, and a shiver ran down my spine.I slowly turned around, and my eyes met black onyx ones that looked devoid of emotions. His being vacuumed all the air in the room as well as the one inside my lungs. He stood tall and dark.King Darius Moratis. An excerpt from the diary of the last Vitalis Princess to ever marry a Lycan King:My name is Hope Vitalis-Moratis. I am the last Vitalis princess to get married to a Lycan King. Hundreds of years ago, humans were the only superior species on Earth. However, Lycans suddenly invaded the earth and dominated humans—this is what is written in the history books. The truth is that, more than thousands of years ago, humans and Lycans lived in peace. But humans grew afraid and envious of Lycans who were more talented, stronger, and powerful than them. They all put out their hands to drive away Lycans and surpress them within a hidden kingdom known as Moratia. Many years after, a Lycan King decided to change history by coming out of the shadows and breaking out from the hidden Kingdom, making it known to everyone. The king did this with the help of a powerful witch who only appeared when the situation suited her. Thus, this particular Lycan King and his descendants punished humans for drivin
HopeI could sense everything and nothing at the same time. I could hear everything and nothing. I could feel everything and nothing. All this without opening my eyes.As I finally pried my eyes open, I saw a little crack on the ceiling above my head. I have been living in this chamber for months, but this was my first time seeing this crack. Every single morning when I woke up and looked at this ceiling, I have never seen the crack before. Where did it come from?I turned my head around. I could hear thousands of footsteps from outside. I felt like I could hear the footsteps of people outside the castle as well.My entire body felt light, as I thought I could rise up and fly. At the same it was hard for me to lift my body up. But once I managed to do just that, I realized something."I should be dead." I said out loud.I looked down to my stomach. I was wearing a blue night dress. I rolled it up to check my stomach, and there was no mark of the stab wound that Light had designed on
Hope "What are you doing?" I asked Light, trying my best to keep my voice leveled and hide the fear I felt in my chest."You are not ready to join me. Without you being with me, I can't let other people have you and use you against me." Light explained with a detached tone."Are you crazy?! You want to kill me just because I don't believe in your nonsense and cruel actions!? Light, what is wrong with you?!" I exploded at her, but she wasn't fazed by my words."You are a disappointment to all Vitalis princesses." With that said, Light lunged for me. The angle she used was well thought out, and I wouldn't have enough time to dodge the knife even if I attempted to move.I closed my eyes and waited for the impact. However, it did not come. But I heard a clank and a thud sound. I opened my eyes to see that Light was on the floor, and that the Morati knife was at the far corner of the kitchen. This scene was not as surprising as seeing Thaddeus in front of me, standing like a shield."Wh-w
Hope "A way to redeem myself?" I asked Light slowly.Light nodded, the light in her eyes brightening even further. "Your child... The child you have with that monster. It could guarantee peace forever. After you give birth to it, we will work to permanently separate his human and beast side, killing the latter off. Then follow through to do the same with every other surviving Lycan to exterminate all beasts."My eyes widened in surprise as I didn't bother to hide the shock in my expression whilst staring at Light."Light, are you listening to yourself? What do you think you're talking about? Even without the child and this lunatic idea of yours, there would have been peace forever! That was what the treaty was for! You-""Oh, stop that! Don't talk as though that nonsense treaty was fair to humans. We basically became a different type of slaves to these monsters because of that treaty!" Light exclaimed."A treaty that we, humans, came up with!" I fired at Light. If she wanted to prete
Hope After receiving the report from Orion, everything happened so fast that I didn't get a chance to understand anything. One second, Darius and I were sitting next together, the next, he was locking me inside my room for protection and leaving the castle with a large army of soldiers. My heart was in my mouth, I couldn't breathe. Badum. Badum. Badum. Badum.I could feel my heartbeat in every part of my body. Why was I so afraid? Why did I feel there was something terrible waiting for me? I managed to get myself a glass of water but it did not calm me down a single bit. I looked out the window. The army who had been waiting around the castle on standby were no longer there. They had been moved to the scene of action. As for the few soldiers remaining to protect the castle's gates, I couldn't make them out as they were too far away from my line of vision.I knew that this castle was safe, but I still felt like there was trouble lurking around. "Darius isn't here anymore." I told m
HopeToday was the day of the Blood Moon. But everything was weird. Things were too peaceful. It was like the calm before the storm. From morning till this very evening, there have been no reports of rebels, attacks, riots, or anything. However, that didn't mean that things were fine. Light might as well be bidding her time until the Blood Moon was fully out. From the room's window, I stared at the red moon hanging on the dark night sky that was shrouded with dark clouds. It was seriously ominous, to the point where I got chills just by looking at it. However, if things went according to plan, I would be fine. And I would also carry out a personal plan of mine.Soldiers and guards were stationed all round the kingdom and this very castle. We were prepared for anything. Yet, I still felt like we were missing something.I couldn't place my finger on what exactly it was, but I knew that something was wrong somewhere. If I could bring this to Darius' attention, maybe he would do something
