Feliks rested one arm on the partially open window of the pickup truck while silently watching the small isolated house on the other side of the road.

Snow continued to fall slowly, and none of the three brothers said a word. Andrey kept his eyes fixed on the forest, while Yuliam, still pale from the poison that had nearly killed him, breathed more slowly than usual in the back seat.

“You should still be lying down,” Feliks commented without taking his eyes off the woods.

Yuliam kept his eyes fixed on Alexei’s car ever since they had left the small town. Sitting in the passenger seat of the pickup, he held a bottle of water he had barely touched since they left. The poison no longer burned through his body the way it had before, but it had left a deep exhaustion, as if part of his strength was still trying to find its way back.Feliks drove, hands firm on the wheel. Andrey watched the rearview mirror, his silver eyes attentive to every movement. None of the three lost sight of the black sedan.“He’s going back to the mansion,” Feliks commented, breaking the silence. “He’s on the route.”Yuliam didn’t answer. He kept watching. Then the turn signal on Alexei’s car blinked — once, twice — and the vehicle completely changed direction, taking a secondary road that wound into the forest.Yuliam narrowed his eyes.“No…”Feliks noticed too, his brow furrowing.“That doesn’t lead to the Ruriks. That road goes inland.”Andrey quickly checked the GPS, his fingers

The call ended, but the silence remained inside the car. Alexei left the phone on the passenger seat and kept driving without really paying attention to the road. The autopilot of experience did the work for him while his mind circled around a single question. Why?The Lycan also seemed unsettled, a restless presence in the corners of his consciousness.“They wanted Carla dead. Not you. Her.”“I know. She has nothing to do with this.”“But why?”That was exactly what he couldn’t answer. If the target had been him, it would make sense — after all, he was investigating his mother’s death, digging into stories buried for nearly thirty years, poking at wounds that many people would prefer to keep closed. But Carla? She was a doctor, a human, she wasn’t part of that story. She had never met Ulyana, had never even heard of Konstantin Velesov until a few weeks ago. So why poison her? Why choose her, of all people, on the night of her own birthday? He gripped the steering wheel a little tight

The road back to Moscow was silent. Snow streaked across the windshield while Alexei drove with one hand on the wheel, the other closed tightly around the second brooch found in the pocket of the hooded man. It was identical to the first. Same metal, same shape, same emptiness. The Lycan remained restless.“He said something before he died.”“I know. ‘For the Void.’”“That wasn’t a goodbye. It was a declaration.”Alexei agreed. It didn’t sound like a plea for mercy, much less an empty threat. It sounded like an oath, like someone willing to die for something, like a soldier loyal to a cause. He took a deep breath and picked up his phone. The call was answered after the third ring.“Lesha?” Sasha’s voice came from the other side of the world, slightly muffled. “Is everything okay?”“Depends on your definition of ‘okay.’”Sasha let out a sigh that was half amused, half resigned.“So it’s shit. Again.”“Pretty much. I found another one.”The silence on the other end was immediate. Alexei

Days. An eternity.”“You almost died. We found you in the snow with black veins on your neck.”“Details. I’m alive, aren’t I?”Feliks huffed.“You’re really an idiot. A lucky idiot.”“And you’re still ugly.”“Jealousy.”“Never. I prefer being pale and almost dead.”Despite the provocations, the three remained alert. Boris had been very clear in the last call: “If Alexei leaves alone again, you follow him. Do not interfere unless it is absolutely necessary.”That was exactly what the

The antique shop seemed larger on the inside than on the outside. Dark wooden shelves rose all the way to the ceiling, packed with leather-bound books, yellowed maps, ancient navigational instruments, wooden boxes, clocks that had stopped decades ago, and artifacts whose purpose Sasha couldn’t even begin to imagine. The smell was a mixture of aged paper, cedar, dust, and freshly brewed coffee. The old man calmly closed the book he had been reading when Sasha entered. He must have been over eighty, but his posture remained straight. Completely white hair contrasted with dark brown eyes that were far too alert for someone of that age.“So…” Sasha said, crossing his arms. “Are you going to explain how you know my name, or would you rather keep scaring me?”The man smiled with calm ease, his eyes gleaming with ancient wisdom.“I know all the great clans.”“All of them?”“The ones that still exist. The ones that disappeared. The ones that prefer to pretend they never existed.”Sasha raised

The sky remained overcast when Alexei left the Rurik mansion. The snow no longer fell with the intensity of the previous days, but the cold still bit into the landscape, covering the secondary roads of the small town where Nika had chosen to meet him. Throughout the entire journey, he remained silent, one hand holding the steering wheel, the other resting on his phone. The call from that woman still echoed in his head. "If you are calling me... then she finally managed to find you." Since then, no other word had been spoken between them. She had only arranged the meeting. The Lycan remained restless. “She knows something. She knows what Ulyana hid.”"I know."“Then why are we taking so long? Speed up this car.”"Because driving at three hundred an hour usually causes problems. And because I don’t want to die before hearing what she has to say."“Details.”Despite the good-humored reply, Alexei was also anxious, more than he wanted to admit. When he finally entered the small

“This is going to be a problem, Alpha.”The Lycan murmured in his mind, its voice low and drawn out, like a warning whispered through clenched teeth.Dmitry didn’t respond. The large meeting room at Rurik Motors exuded power. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a privileged view of Moscow, while the dark wooden oval table dominated the center of the room. The glass-walled room on the top floor of Rurik Motors offered a silent spectacle of Moscow at night — cold, pulsating, and indifferent.
