Elowen's POV

I winced in pain as my maid tightened the corset of my dress.

She dragged the ropes so sharply that I could almost feel the content of my stomach giving way.

Not that I had anything to eat that morning. I was too nervous to even take a bite out of anything.

I stood in front of the mirror, admiring the fitting of the dress. I was clothed in a delicate ivory satin, detailed with silver embroidery. The hem of the dress was laced with precious stones, but none of the stones were as precious as the day was to me.

I struggled to sit down, my stomach tightly snatched, as my maid styled my white hair into soft waves. My makeup was lightly done, adding a touch of red to my lips.

I am Elowen, princess of MoonShire Pack. And today, I am going to be Queen Luna after I marry Thorne Blackwood.

Just thinking about it made my heart beat faster. The wedding was a very private one, only few people were invited. Thorne strictly supervised the guest list himself, inviting my brother, few of my friends, and some others that only he knew, to the Wedding.

He told me that he didn't want anything to go wrong today, and I flushed red when he leaned in to kiss my neck. Everything was perfect.

"Where is Elowen, and what have you done with her?"

A man's stern voice came through the door of the dressing room.

The maid seized what she was doing and bowed. His presence was commanding and his wolf scent was strong.

"Papa, you are not meant to be here"

I laughed softly, adding layers to my beauty. "This is a ladies room"

"Oh! Is it now?" He said, stroking my hair gently "then, as the King of MoonShire, I declare myself a lady for today—just so I can spend time with my daughter" he gave a deep heartwarming laugh and signalled for the maids to leave the room.

Lycan King Vander helped his daughter stand up straight and admired my beauty. I was almost sure I saw tears gather in his eyes, but I was uncertain as he had never shown weakness before, not in front of me.

"You look just like your mother princess" he said with warmth filled in his voice "I'm sure she would be proud of you"

Tears streamed down my face as the little memories I had of Aleda, my mother, came flooding in. Life had been difficult without her, but King Vander had always made sure he protected his children, he always made sure he protected me.

"Where's Cave Father?" I asked, noticing that my younger brother wasn't hovering around as he would on a day as grande as this. I hadn't seen him since the day begun which was very strange, given that he always looked out for me and would have checked in to see if I was okay.

"I haven't seen him since" Vander said "but I'm sure he'll come around" he added dismissively, almost as although he wanted to avoid even talking about Cave.

"Now" Vander said walking behind me "I must give you what I came for"

He moved my hair gently over to the side and fixed a necklace on me. It had an emerald locket attached to it, but the locket could not be opened. It had a keyhole, but there was no key to it, not that I knew of.

"How does this come open father" I asked trying to force it open. He gestured for me to stop.

"The key to that locket lies within you Elowen" he said with all seriousness "your mother harnessed it's powers to bring MoonShire peace during the Bloodwars" he paused and looked into my eyes.

"Now it is yours" he added sternly "you must guard it with your life"

"I will father" I promised.

Vander took my hands and we walked out of the room together. He held me close as we walked down the spiral staircase to the Royal Hall.

Then my eyes met his. Thorne Blackwood.

He was as stunning as he was when I first met him. His green eyes pierced through me and his smile eased the tension that was rising in my chest.

It was a reassurance that everything was going to be fine.

My eyes ran through the guests at the Hall. Most of them were unfamiliar, but my attention fixed on a lady in a crimson red dress. The dress was very fitted and accentuated her curves.

I noticed her speaking to Thorne earlier and all eyes seemed to have been on her before I arrived, but no matter how seductively she dressed, I was the star of today, and she couldn't steal that.

I also saw Cave standing at the middle of the hall, but his expression was not joyful. His brows were furrowed, but he quickly forced on a smile when he saw me.

Thorne walked towards me ensuing so much charm. He bowed lightly.

"Your majesty" he said playfully.

"Oh don't be silly Thorne" I chuckled "to you, I'll always be Elowen, just Elowen"

He took my arm in his and a few escorts, along with the guests, followed us to the Royal Ship.

The plan was that we were to set sail only a few miles North and head back before dark. Hundreds of wine barrels were loaded onto the ship and foods of all sort were carried in by the maids.

I turned to my father as I was about to step into the ship and hugged him tightly. I knew he was always going to be there for me, but I was so overwhelmed with emotion at the moment.

"I love you father" I said tears streaming down my face. "I love you too princess" he said kissing my forehead.

Thorne nudged me forward gently and we walked into the ship. Vander followed me closely behind. I also noticed that the lady I saw earlier, the one in the red dress, was also following closely, but I discarded that.

Today was not the day for suspicions. I would ask Thorne about her after our wedding night.

'Our wedding night' I thought. My cheeks flushed red.

The wedding and the reception moved on flawlessly. Drinks were served in excess, most of the guests were drunk and singing merry songs by the time the sun was setting. It was tradition that the couple had nothing to drink until the night.

Though I observed that the people Thorne invited kept their drinks to a bare minimum and were very sober.

The lady in red especially kept staring at me, making me feel very uncomfortable. She didn't even have any wine or eat anything.

"Elowen, come with me, I want to show you something" Thorne held me and gently pulled me away from the drunk singing groups I was laughing with.

We walked to the Ship's deck and strolled towards the Forward, the pointed front of the ship.

I was freezing, but he didn't seem to notice. I pushed that aside, afterall, his voice in my ears and the warmth of his touch were more than enough to shield me from the cold air.

"As my queen, I promise to show you the whole world Elowen" he said climbing unto a deck just near the edge. "We will rule together and we will stretch our love past the boundaries of the ocean"

"Thorne" I yelled, fearing that he would fall of the edge. I knew he was reckless, it was one of the things that drew me to him. "Get down from there, it's dangerous"

"Come be with me, my Queen" Thorne stretched his hands towards me. We were so close to the edge of the ship, but he was my mate and protector. He would never let anything happen to me.

I hesitantly climbed unto the ship's edge and he wrapped my waist from behind. He held me firmly, but spoke so softly. The wind was in my hair, and the waves crashed mildly against the ship. For the first time in a long time, I felt alive.

Then, Thorne's hold around my waist tightened, and the warmth in his voice suddenly gave way to something colder and darker.

"Do you feel it, Elowen?" he whispered, his lips brushed softly against my ear. "The wind in your hair, the waves crashing below us... It’s freeing, isn’t it?"

"Yes," I murmured, smiling and completely oblivious. "With you, it’s perfect."

A bitter chuckle escaped his throat.

I stiffened.

"Perfect? You think this is perfect?" His voice was a low, almost mocking tone. "You think you and I are some fairy tale couple destined for a happy ending? Do you know how pathetic you sound?"

I froze.

"Thorne... what are you saying?"

Damien's POVI hadn’t said a word since I left Montanne's chambers , but the silence hadn’t been peaceful. It was loud. It was screaming, even. The scent of her perfume was only just beginning to fade away. I was beginning to think clearly now. What in the world was that? But as much as I tried to deny it, I loved the scent. I loved how it intoxicated me. How it flowed into my lungs and my head and made me forget all the things that troubled me... except Elda.Even when I opened my eyes on Montanne's body, it was Elda's face I saw.I walked towards the window to get some air. I needed to clear my head. Then I remembered Montanne had never really answered the question I asked. Why she put Elda in charge of the Wine Cellar. What game was she playing at this time? And why did Elda have to be a part of it.I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees with my hands clasped together.Sager paced restlessly inside me, behaving more animal than usual."She means to hurt her," he growled.

Elowen's POVAs soon as he was out of sight, I moved and tried to look around. But he was back too quickly, before I could even look anywhere. Luckily I heard his footsteps and was seated before he came in.He offered me the apples. I wore a foolish smile that hopefully read 'thank you' and took the apple.I nibbled at the apple and let the sweetness linger on my tongue longer than necessary. He looked at me. Maybe curious, maybe wondering why I was really here— maybe hoping I'd get into bed with him before I left. The apple actually tasted good.Really good. For a moment, I almost forgot why I came.He just sat there and watched me with his curious golden eyes. "I know you may not want to talk about this Elda, but wherever you came from, I'm sure they must be missing you"He inched closer to me. We were now sitting side by side on the bed."But I am glad that shipwreck happened because it brought you to me""That's a very inconsiderate thing to say don't you think?" I asked throu

  • The Lycan's Luna: Reclaiming her Throne   Chapter Twenty Six: The Lies We Tell Ourselves

Elowen's POVI shouldn’t have heard what I did in Montanne’s room, but I'm glad I did.I was just passing by, walking as fast as I could away from the Cellar, where I had just... met Darin.Hares.That traitor. That thief. It was unjust. I knew I had no power to report him or order his room to be searched. If I'd learnt something in my stay in BloodHowl, it's that a servant owns nothing to even report stolen in the first place. That locket was the only tangible piece of a past I couldn't remember. And Hares had taken it. Kept it. Lied about it.So no, he didn’t deserve my pity. Even if part of me flinched at the memory of Montanne’s voice echoing in her room.“If she knew why you were banished…”I had no idea he was banished. And I wondered what else he did that he was so afraid of the world knowing that he would bend to Montanne's will.Maybe I was getting it all wrong.Maybe it was Montanne who asked him to take my locket and destroy it.I wasn't sure, but I didn't careI was just

Damien's POVIt shouldn’t have happened.Again.But goodness me, I didn’t regret it. Not for a second. Her lips still lingered on mine even after she pulled away — like the ghost of something beautiful that couldn’t stay.I watched her leave.I let her.I told myself it was the right thing to do — that if I’d stopped her, it would’ve only made things worse. Afterall, I was going to be married in a few moons from now, and nothing could stop it.But the truth was simpler than that.I was afraid. Of what it meant. Of what she meant. And of everything I would lose if I decided to go after her.I stayed in the cellar a little longer. My heart pounding, breath ragged. Her name was still echoing in my mind like a prayer, like all the prayers I had been offering to the moon goddess.Elda.And then, like a splash of cold water to my face, th

Elowen's POVIt felt so good. Like it should be forever. But I finally found the discipline to pull away from him.The footsteps faded, then disappeared completely. Still, we didn’t move right away. When we finally stepped out, the cellar felt bigger somehow.Emptier.“I should go,” I said as I brushed down my skirt and tried not to meet his eyes.He nodded. “Right. Of course.”We didn’t say goodbye. We just shared one last look — a look that said this wasn’t over. And then I walked away.My heart was pounding. My mind was racing. And I was already missing the way he said my name.*****I made my way up the stone stairs and headed for my room. The special room Montanne had assigned to me.My footsteps were echoing too loudly down the corridor, so I slowed them a bit.The hallway became narrower as I passed Montanne's chambers. The memories of me being dragged away from there by the guards haunted for me a second. The heavy doors of her Chambers were slightly open and I could hear a f

  • The Lycan's Luna: Reclaiming her Throne   Chapter Twenty Three: Cellar

Elowen's POVThe cellar was quiet. The air was cool and musty with the smell of old wood and even older wine. I ran my fingers over the dusty shelves, trying not to think too much while working. I was taking record of the dates of each wine chamber and figuring out which one would be suitable for the event.Yes.I had said 'Yes' to Montanne. I accepted her request to supervise the winery for her wedding celebration. For a moment, I thought maybe I'd lost my mind. But I remembered I was only doing this as a means to an end, and the end was to leave BloodHowl. And maybe Montanne wasn't as evil as I had thought. She assigned me a special room so I didn't have to stay in the maid's quarters and a personal guard who I asked to wait outside my room so I could have some quiet here.It felt so good to be doing something. I didn't even realize how sick and tired I was of lying down in bed all day. It was almost suffocating.Hares wasn't too pleased when I told him about Montanne's offer.

  • The Lycan's Luna: Reclaiming her Throne   Chapter Twenty Two: Longing

Damien's POVHer lips.I could still feel them.Warm. Soft. Maybe a little hesitant, like she didn't know what she was doing— like she hadn't been kissed in a long time, or maybe ever. But she didn't pull away. EldaThat kiss wasn't planned. Nothing about her is. I only wanted to stop her from hurting herself, to steady her. But when I held her, something in me shifted. I remembered everything so vividly, when I saved her. The curve of her neck when she looked away. The way she clung to me like I was her last anchor to this world. There was just something about her clumsiness, her free will, her foolish decisions and plans.Who would ever think of climbing down a palace through a window with some curtains and bed sheets strapped to a bed leg.But I loved it. Every bit of it.Her wild spirit. Her defiance. It drew me.That was why I couldn't let her know I was King. If she knew, all that fire would melt into submission. She would bow and say "your majesty" just like everybody else.

  • The Lycan's Luna: Reclaiming her Throne   Chapter Twenty One

Elowen's POVAll I could remember was his touch, his kiss. That feeling when he held me. I felt safe.Darin.At least I got his name this time. Something about him seemed familiar, now that I thought about it. It wasn't just the time when I bumped into him while I was searching for the maid's quarters or when he came into my room earlier. It was something deeper, but I couldn't understand how.The door opened and someone came in.The last person I was expecting to see today. MontanneI didn't know how to react. A part of me was scared. All of me was scared.I hadn't seen her since she had caught me in her room, accused me of stealing from her, and ordered her guards to take me to a dungeon to be whipped. And since...her mate, the King saved me from the prison cell with his own arms. I shuddered at the thought. I had never even met him before. I hadn't even seen his face. I still didn't know why he did that and I needed to find out why.Montanne must be furious and here to poison m

  • The Lycan's Luna: Reclaiming her Throne   Chapter Twenty: The Poisoning

Montanne's POV.The court ladies were already seated in the Room when I entered.Their voices were floating around the room. They loved gossip more than anything else, and I was sure that I was the subject of their gossip today. Most of them were not pleased with the fact that the would be Queen of BloodHowl was not taken from within the Pack, but was rather given to a stranger. But I didn't care. The throne was mine already.Their perfumes filled the room and they were all elegantly dressed with their tea tables set in front of them.I walked into the room, wearing my crimson gown that touched the floor behind me lightly. They all kept quiet and stood up when they saw me and bowed lightly. I gave them a soft smile, though it clearly didn't reach my eyes.I knew what they were here for, and how much envy they were filled with."Please sit ladies" I said, taking my seat at the centre of the room
