The Mafia Boss and the Spy

Standing beside the security guard I was this close to getting caught. I couldn't hear anything because the speakers I had on had got its wires tangled when I was trying to get out of the air vents. It was just me. My entire team was outside in a van right across the street from the building I was in. The entire mission depended on me. 

“Hello miss, would you like a dance”

A fine gentleman walked up to me and offered a dance, although the security was in disapproval because he didn't like me. He couldn't do anything because the man I was about to dance with was none other than the son of the owner of the building I was in. Elegantly, I stretched my hand. Grasping it in his arms, he led me to the dance floor. 

“You look really beautiful”

I pretended to blush, I wasn't here for compliments unfortunately. I was here for business.

“Oh thank you, you're quite handsome I must admit”

I pretended to give into his false charm. I had to use what I had to get what I wanted. After a few dances and glasses of champagne I insisted we go to his room for some “extra fun”. 

He seemed interested because he couldn't get his eyes off me and that was important. Immediately we got to his room quickly, I knocked him off with a blow. Hopefully that would keep him unconscious for some time. His father was under investigation for extensive money laundering and I was here to get a very important disk that would be very important in our investigation. Quickly I got his phone and was able to reach my people.

“Oct, there you are”

“I'm very sorry, my wires got tangled I couldn't communicate”

“It's okay, now back to work”

That was Carlos, my IT guy. He was the tech guy that knew everything about computers. 

“So where are you?”

“I'm with his son” 

“His son?”

I eye his subconscious body laying on the floor

“You hit the big fish Oct”

He giggled out loud.

“Carlos be fast, we don't have much time”

Noticing that he was shaking a bit

“Alright Oct, so the disk is placed in a safe not too far from the suite you're in, so you're gonna blow up the safe get the disk and use the vent to escape, J is going to be waiting for you at the end of the tunnel”

The plan sounded fine until I hear J.

“J is on this mission”

“That's what the big boss said”

I wanted to protest but I couldn't. There was no time and J wasn't something I wanted to deal with.

Quickly I made it to the room. Placed the bomb on the safe. Immediately I opened it, to my surprise the disk wasn't there. Before I could get up, I heard a trigger pull. 

“Stand up, slowly”

It was none other but the fish we were fishing. 

“Who are you?”

“Answer me!”

He yelled. I turned around and saw how he was shaking.

“I didn't ask you to turn”

“I'm an agent”

“Ohhh, the CIA. You guys have been unto me for some time now”

He pulls out a disk from his pocket and it captures my attention 

“I guess this is what you're looking for”

“Yes, I am”

“Wait, is that a Russian accent, you're Russian?”

“Russian American”

“They have Russians in the CIA now?”

I use my leg to hit his face and pick up the disk from his hands.

“I'm not in the CIA unfortunately”

I quickly make it to the nearest vent and slide into it. But I get followed by two heavily built men. After I make it into the tunnel. I try to run and look for where to hide. I try to look for J.

“Where the hell is J?”

I whisper, I try to turn and escape and then I get confronted with them. I try to fight them, but I'm overpowered. Laying on the floor looking for how to fight back but I'm helpless. Then I see both of them fall in front of me. I heard gunshots but I couldn't see a face, until a shadow walked up to me and gave me his hand. It was J. 

“Get up, Carlos is waiting for us”

Ignored his hand and stood up.

“Well done Octavia, this evidence would definitely be crucial in bringing him down”

Miss Greta, who was the leader of our spy agency said. She had been the reason my life was like this. I was a lost soul, especially after my dad had died.

“I want to be there, in the courtroom to see him get convicted of his crimes, I want him to remember me”

“Definitely, any other requests?”

“Yes, I don't want J to accompany me on any missions anymore”

“That's not a possible”

With a grin on her face 

“You know how he makes me feel?”

“Octavia, remember what I told you about putting your feelings aside”

“I will never see, if my emotions blind me”

“Exactly, you're one of the best in the game but you cannot cloud your mind with these emotions. Look J is just as good as you, you make an amazing team”

I give her a wicked look of disapproval 

“I know you guys have a past and he broke your heart and there's a weird resentment between the both of you but you need to put that aside and work”

“Easy for you to say he's your son”

“I wouldn't deny that, but you could be me one day running this agency”

“Don't put those dreams in my head, I want to be free, like a bird. I want to live life, fall in love and do so much. I could travel the world you know”

“Well, that would be after your next mission”

“Greta, I want a vacation, and if J is gonna be on this one. I would really love some time to myself”

“Okay, if a break is what you want, you'll get it. I don't want my best agent to be fatigued in the field”

“I'm not fatigued. I just want some space”

“Whatever you say”

“I must tell you, your Russian accent suits you well”

“Oh no you sound like the guy we're about to lock up in jail”

We both laughed as we left her office.

The following week at the courthouse, I could see the man who was involved in money laundering get a sentence. Everything was going well until I saw J. Tried my best to avoid eye contact but J walked up to me but not today, I walked into the hallway. Taking note that I was running he grabbed my hand and pinned me to the wall.

“What do you think you're doing”

I barked at him. He didn't reply 

“This won't end well and you know it”

He still didn't reply, right about now I had had enough, especially when he started sniffing my neck. I used my knee to hit him in his crotch before slapping him. He fell to the floor and all of a sudden all the attention was on us. Quickly Greta ran to her son's side and I walked out. 

I tried to avoid him, especially after what happened on our mission in Spain. J and I had just started dating. I was in love, or so I thought. Immediately after a successful mission the whole team went out for some drinks and some fun too. I knew that Velma had a thing for J. I confronted him about the passive flirting but he assured me that it was nothing. So I let my guard down.

Unfortunately for me, I had a number of drinks and decided to use the restroom. When I was there. I heard some voices but I thought it was a random couple until I recognized J's, voice.

“J, how could you do this to me”

I cried as I ran out of the bar and got the first flight back to base. J begged, Greta begged but I couldn't take him back. Velma was removed from our team but It didn't make a difference. What had happened had happened. 

I try to make it to my car but, as soon as I open the door, Greta stops me and slaps me. With my left hand on my cheek, I'm in disbelief.

“How dare you slap my son. Do you think you're better than him?”

She yells. I couldn't believe it. Greta had slapped me. I was too devastated. I opened the door and got into the car and drove home.

How could she, after everything J did to me. I wasn't going to let it go. I was going to resign.
