With just one thought on her mind, there was no way he could have forgotten her so easily. By morning, she was the first to wake up. She took her bath and borrowed one of Ellie's dresses. Thankfully, Ellie wasn't that much different from her, so her cloth fitted. She had no idea if Rauf had been discharged or he was still at the hospital. But, based on yesterday's event, it would be impossible for her to gain entrance into the Salvador Mansion. She decided on going to the hospital early, hopefully her sister wouldn't be there. The ride to the hospital was filled with one thought - how to convince Rauf she was his legally married wife. On arriving to the hospital, she met the same guards at the door. After pleading with them, they allowed her entrance into his room. Rauf was awake and thankfully alone. Being alone with him in the same room made her heart skip. "You're back." His voice sounded irritated. "What do you want from me? Money?" June felt like a thousand feet were stepping on her heart. How could he reduced all of their five years to money? "Papi..." She said, slowly. Immediately, Rauf turned towards her, his eyes widened. "How did..." He shook his head. "Have you been spying on me and your sister?" For all he knew, it was only his wife that called him Papi. And it wasn't even at the beginning of their marriage, it was when they had finally started getting comfortable with each other. June felt tears levelled in her eyes. "It's me, Papi. I'm your legally married wife, not Amie." For a brief seconds, his look changed. Hope flattered in June's heart. Maybe, he finally believed her. He was finally going to give her a chance to prove herself. But before she could utter more words, his gaze hardened back. "Who put you up to this?" His tone was hard. It was strange to her ears. She had forgotten the time he was this hard on her - that was when they first got married. But him speaking with her that way, brought back the memories she didn't want to remember. "Was this your father's work?" He continued when June didn't say a word. "He must have hated the fact that I married his golden daughter and that she cared for me than he cared to admit. So, he's trying to sabotage my relationship with Amie." June swallowed. No. She knew that Rauf had always had his eyes on Amie from the first day he stepped into their house to threaten her father, but she had no idea his infuatation with her was this much. "Papi, please..." But he raised his hand up to silence her. "Don't..." He said through clenched teeth. "Don't you ever mention that name again." Lost and confused, June stared around. She had thought it would be easier to convince Rauf alone, but it was proving more difficult than when her family was presence. Her hand moved to the lower of her stomach. Even if he didn't want her, anymore. It didn't change the fact that he was the father of her unborn child. He deserved to know. She lifted her gaze to watch him glaring at her. Never could June had thought that once his eyes open, it was going to send glares her way. She had imagined this scenarios countless times and never had she thought of this. Summoning her courage, she thrusted the report towards him. "Even if you wouldn't listen to me, at least can you read this." Rauf eye's narrowed at the paper she thrusted to him. What game was she playing now? It wasn't enough that she pretended to be his wife, but now she was trying to show him some false report that would deceived him. He collected the report from her and saw her eyes widened. She watched him carefully, and a smirk appeared on his lips as he tore the report right in front of her. He tore it into tiny pieces that even placing it back together would prove difficult. But as soon as he threw the paper on the floor, June fell on the floor and started picking each pieces. She didn't care about how small or insignificant it was, she picked them one by one while swallowing the tears that threatened to fall from her lips. That was the last straw. It was prove that he wanted nothing to do with her. Or their baby. Their poor baby. She was still picking the pieces when the door opened. Amie walked in looking as flawless as ever. She looked like she had spent hours in front of the mirror perfecting her makeup. When her eyes fell on June, she froze. "Baby, what's she doing here?" She asked Rauf. "Did she come to stalk you again?" Her voice was cold, high-pitched like she wanted people passing by the hall to hear every word. "Don't worry about her, dear? Once she is done packing her trash, she will be escorted out of the room." Amie chuckled, moving closer to the bed. June was picking one of the paper closed to the bed, when Amie stepped on her. She swallowed the scream that threatened to leave her mouth. "I brought you breakfast, darling." Amie announced, her leg digging deeper into her hand. When June finally picked the last shred of her reports she stood up, ready to leave the room. She looked at Rauf one last time as if telling him to come to his senses, but he couldn't be bothered about her as his attention was fully on Amie and the breakfast she had brought. To them, it was as if she wasn't even in the room. Just as she took a step out of the room, making up her mind to forget about Rauf. He didn't want her. Or her baby. She was going to have to be enough for both of them. She heard Rauf's voice. "Mami, why does this pasta taste different."The room was silent as June took in the words. New Central State. How was she supposed to find her mother in such a busy state?"So, what do you say? Do you want to or don't you want to?" Her father said in a sing song, as if he were talking to a little child. It was the tone he had always used on her when she younger. And, it might have worked on her then, but she was no longer a little child. Soon, she would become a mother, who needs to protect her child. June swallowed the lump in her throat. "Give me the letter and I will answer whatever you want."She needed to get that letter. They might be clues in it to find her mother. If truly her mother was desperate to find her, then she had to let her know somehow that she was also in the New Central State. But, her father didn't give her the letter immediately. His eyes moved around her like she was some sort of puzzle he couldn't place together. June remained expressionless as she stared at the letter in his hand. After a while,
"You know exactly what I want. Come to the house, I'll be waiting for you."The call dropped before she could say something else. June's fist tightened on the phone. She felt her anger rising, but beneath it was also hope. Hope she had lost completely.Hope for a family that Rauf had temporarily given her, only for him to snatch it away, cruelly. It couldn't truly be. Could be?Her father was a cruel man, and would do or say anything to achieve his goal. Yet, she looked at Ellie who hadn't uttered a word. "Can you please give me a dress? I left all of mine at Rauf's"Ellie blinked. "You're not seriously going back."June inhaled. "Ellie, I need to know. I need to know if my mother is truly alive or not. I can't move on without knowing."Speechless, Ellie stared at her. She had watched June grow without anyone in her corner. Every special day had always been dedicated to Amie. June had mourned her mother every single day of her life, and Ellie wouldn't say she knew exactly how she
"Sir, there's something you should know."As soon as the guard opened his mouth, the office door slid open. Amie peeped her head him, and seeing the guard looking tense and nervous, she walked inside. She stride to Rauf's side. Thankfully, she had the decency to cover herself up. "Darling, are you working already?" She questioned, her gaze moving among the files on his table. But Rauf only relaxed on his chair. He waved his hand off to dismissed the guard. He just have to question him another day. Amie moved her hand over her body, "It's lonely without you on the bed, darling. Remember, we always sleep together." She pouted at him, trying to act cute. "Don't go changing now that you can see."Rauf chuckled. He wished he could promise her he wouldn't change, but he couldn't make a promise when he was this much in doubt. Instead, he lifted her off his leg and led her out of this office. "I think we should go sleep now. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day."He was resuming back a
It had been three days. Three days without Rauf in her life and three days trying to find something to do with her life. Ellie had resigned form her workplace and they had both sat down to search for jobs in New Central State before relocating there. It was better knowing they would have something to fall back on, than going empty handed. After searching tiredlessly, June found an assistant job in a vet clinic with good pay. At least, it would be enough for her to register for her prenatal and started getting new things for herself. Ellie also got a job at a restaurant, but she planned on working part-time as she was going to be schooling while working."Is that the last thing you need to place in the bag?" June asked. She had watched Ellie packed her bag, and because most of her belongings were still at Salvador's mansion, she had absolutely nothing to pack.It was horrible, but she had promised not to cry again. They were some things that were personal to her, that she wouldn'
When he didn't respond, and kept staring at her, Amie felt her palm becoming sweaty. Did he find out something already? She gave him the gift and covered up the room color. Everything should be fine. Amie blinked, moving closer to him. She placed her hand right into his. "Come on, darling. What's happening? Why do you look like that?"Rauf schooled his features immediately. If this was an act he needed to find out. He shouldn't give them a clue that he suspected anything. He forced a smile at her. "Sorry, Mami. It's the aftermath of the surgery."Amie smiled at him. "Come on. I'll make you feel good, but first, come and eat."She pulled him away from the grey room towards the dining. The silence in the room was deafening as the maid came to drop the food on the table. There was no whispers from the maid like it used to whenever he heard them drop his food. He waited and watched as Amie commanded them to put their food on their plate. Another thing he had been looking forward to
After spending three more days in the hospital, Rauf was finally discharged. The hospital bed had been boring to him than he expected, and Amie had forbidden him from bringing work to his sick bed. Finally, he was going home and couldn't wait to see what his home now looked like after five years. But, he had a feeling he was going to love it. Though he was blind, he had done a lot of things in that home with his wife. Things he finally wanted to see face to face. "Darling, I hired a new interior decorator to change the look of your room. You'll love it." Amie said as she led him towards the room. Instead of a smile, a frown occupied Rauf's face. What did she mean by his room?It should be their room. She had promised to move fully in after his surgery was successful. But he kept quiet. For the past three days at the hospital, Rauf had resulted in eating the hospital's meal. No matter how Aime had prepared the food, it just didn't taste the same way it did when he was blind. It
