Brunch with King Vermont.

Kira gasped in shock as her corset was tightened further. Her face was contorted and her breathing seized as they dragged it once again. "God, damn it!" She snapped, causing the maidservant to pause.

"Uh?" The maidservant voiced out in confusion.

Kira was finding it hard to breathe freely and she was feeling hot everywhere. "Geez. Is this…is this necessary?"

The maidservant was confused. "My lady, you know that it's necessary. Besides, you need to look beautiful for your husband-to-be." She said and Kira could feel the smile in her voice.

Kira scoffed and turned to look at her. "And who the hell are you? What's your name?" She asked, seeing as the girl seemed free toward her, especially for an ordinary maid.

'She's your personal maid, Aryann. Also a good friend to Kara.' Cara disclosed.

Aryann was shocked at the question and her eyes watery. "Are you…are you saying you don't remember me?"

Kira blinked at her sudden transition and she answered since she hated anything awkward. "Don't mind me. For a moment, my mind just went blank, Aryann."

Aryann breathed out in relief and nodded, "Let's completely dress you up so you can look elegant in front of King Vermont."

Kira frowned as the thought of getting married bashed her head once again. She needed to escape again but how could she? Why did she even transmigrate to this century? She even wondered how Kara Mey was.

She turned and allowed Aryann to keep tightening the corset.

And she asked the voice in her head, 'So tell me, voice, did you know how Kara Mey was?'

'Correction, Ki--ra. My name is Cara and no I don't.'

Kira sighed and she humphed as it was suddenly more tighter. "Okay, it's okay. Stop it right now!"

Aryann stopped and tied it. Kira stood straight and stared at herself in the mirror and the navy blue and black corset and navy blue skirt which was adorned with numerous embroideries and trims, over layers of petticoats.

She was finding it difficult to breathe and it was damn annoying and aggravating.

'As the voice in her head, you should know how Kara is.' Kira retorted.

'Well, I'm only going to answer you if you start addressing me by my name.'

Kira rose a brow in stupefaction. 'Uh, even the voice in my head can be daring. She's got a choice, that's good.'

"Let's go, my lady. King Vermont is waiting."

Kira nodded and she walked out of her room. Getting out, she met four maidservants waiting for her with bowed heads but she just huffed and walked past them.

Her skirt was disturbing her so she lifted it up, causing Aryann to gasp. "My lady! Please don't do that! That isn't the way you walk. It isn't the proper etiquette for walking." She yelled like Kira has done the worst thing ever.

Kira turned to look at her like she heard the most stupid thing. "Not the proper etiquette for walking? The stupid skirt is disturbing. I'm aching all over." She complained, feeling annoyed.

"You can't curse, my lady. You're not allowed to say anything vile." Aryann warned. "So please, let go of your skirt, place both hands on your lower stomach, and keep your chin parallel to the ground."

Kira kept a blank face at the way Aryann spoke to her. She scoffed and asked, "Did you just tell me what to do? I mean, aren't you a mere maid? Do I take orders from you?"

Aryann was taken aback. She darted her eyes left and right in fear at the sudden change in her Princess and lowered her head in a curtsy. "Apologies, my lady. Those are just the royal etiquette that must be followed. I'm sorry if I offended you."

Kira rolled her eyes away. She faced the stairs and began bounding off of it ruggedly.

It scared Aryann but she just followed with the other maids behind her.

Soon they arrived at the ravishing red dining hall with sash bow-shaped windows and floral red drapes, red walls, and an antique rug with wooden, red designated dining chairs and a wooden table having gorgeous craftsmanship.

China Cabinets with ceiling medallions and a beautiful chandelier illuminated the room. Looking around, it did give a Victorian feeling and it was lovely.

There were also kitchen maids standing in wait while some were placing the first course dishes prepared on the table.

George who sat on the master seat saw that she just stood there looking around the room like a novice. He gave Arthur an awkward chuckle before saying with an audible voice, "Why are you still standing there, Princess Kara? King Vermont has been waiting for you."

Kira's gaze landed on George and she inwardly scoffed before recklessly walking toward the table. A chair was pulled out for her and she sat down in front of Arthur who just stared at her.

He could tell something wasn't right with her.

She normally just appeared to him with an innocent but fake smile but this time, she seemed – indifferent. Giving him a nonchalant expression and attitude. She didn't even curtsy.

Kira wondered why it was just Kara's father and King Vermont. She thought it was gonna be a family thing and come to think of it, no mother?

'She has no mom. Her mom died when she was five.' Cara informed.

Kira gaped. "Whoa." She silently said.

She didn't have a mother either. Also a father.

George cleared his throat. "So, in the next three days, we have decided you're getting married and taken to the Vermont kingdom."

Kira sighed, not ready to hear anything about marriage but rather wanted to focus on the enticing food in front of her. Since it was a first-course meal, baked apples with pecans and cranberries were prepared.

She smiled and looked at George. "Why don't we eat first? You and the King of Vermont have made your decision and I'm sure I can't change it so let's eat."

George smiled and looked at Arthur. "Let's ea…" He noticed Arthur's peering gaze was on Kira so he looked and gasped as he saw she was already eating.

"Kara!" He warned. "What are you doing?!"

Kira blinked, her mouth stuffed with food and she said, "Eating."

George frowned and looked at Arthur awkwardly before looking back at Kira. "I'm sure you know the proper etiquette, Kara. You're supposed to wait for the king to eat before you do and you don't talk with a stuffed mouth."

Kira gulped her food which went down hard so she took a glass of water and gulped it down. "Is that so? My bad."

The stupid etiquette she was constantly hearing was beginning to irk her.

George apologetically looked at Arthur and said, "My apologies, King Vermont. I think she's still having an after-effect on what happened to her."

Arthur just forced a smile and looked back at Kira. "I think her brush with death got her extremely hungry so bring out the second-course meal so she can freely eat."

Kira gave him a blank look, wondering what was going on in his head. "That's so nice of you, King Vermont." She looked back at the chef. "So what are you waiting for? Bring them out!'

They all nodded and went to do as ordered.

Even her voice seemed different and it bothered George. Hopefully, King Vermont won't change his mind.

Soon after, a tray of baked egg casserole, garnished with sauteéd tomatoes and sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese arrived on the table. It was surprising to see they had wonderful food like this. Wow.

And one thing she loved was food.

It was sliced into squares, so they brought a square out and placed it on a plate in front of her. She nodded in satisfaction and began to eat, forgetting the warnings.

Even her way of eating was wrong.

Is she deliberately acting this way or was she really affected by what happened to her?

As Arthur watched her, a small smile appeared on his lips like he was being amused by a comedy show. He didn't know she could be so…weird. It was new.

And as she ate, a thought crossed her mind.

What if someone found her and saved her? What if she's in a coma at the moment, waiting for her body to return to her?

One thing for sure is she can't stay here.

She has to leave and make everyone who wronged her pay dearly with their lives.

And there was only one way that should definitely work.

The lake.
