LOGINAuthor's POV
“Wow, Gonzalez, this is the tenth offender you have brought in today,” her nemesis, Officer Mike, said with a huge grin on his face, and she smiled smugly. “I’m on a roll today,” she said, causing Mike to burst out laughing mockingly as she handed the perpetrator over to another officer who was on duty. “Jokes on you, I brought in fifteen; pay up,” he said with a smug grin as he stood up from his desk, walked towards her, and stretched out his hands for the money. “No way, Mike, you are lying.” Ana Sophia whined and with a wide grin on his face, Mike brought out a sheet of A4 paper, which he stored in his side pocket, it was a summary of all his arrests for the day. With a sigh, Ana Sophia brought out five dollars from her pocket and angrily handed it to Mike. Just as she was about to clock out for the day, Mike called out to her. “Gonzalez!” he shouted, causing her to turn around. “What?” she asked with a frustrated expression. “Don’t you want to know the identity of a perp I caught?” He asked with his brow raised and a devious smirk on his face. “No.” Ana Sophia snapped and turned to walk away, but Mike's next words caused her to stop in her tracks. “Gustav and his daughter,” he leaned back on his desk, crossing his arms and legs. “What? Are you serious?” She asked, her expression immediately turning serious. “Yes, I was out there patrolling with my unit, still in my suave police uniform, my hair gelled down looking better than ever, my bright blue eyes that illuminate in the sun were serious, waiting for incoming battle, and my eyebrows twitched as I sensed danger nearby…” “Get to the point, Mike!” Ana Sophia interrupted him, and he rolled his eyes at her. “I was getting to the point.” He rolled his eyes at her and continued. “Anyways, I received a phone call that a criminal activity was taking place nearby. That is when I swooped into action. I got to the address that the caller described for me and arrived at an abandoned warehouse. I sneaked over and sneakily looked into the window and saw Gustav standing over a dead body, with like twenty men lined up behind him. I ran back to my car and called for backup. Backup came in less than ten minutes, and we raided the warehouse; gunshots were fired. Pow! Pow! Pow! But I easily dodged the bullets because I am a superman. His men were busy trying to scare away my backup, but I, Mike, who was born with the spirit of a lion, ran towards Gustav and tackled him down. I pointed my gun to his neck, causing his men to surrender. After that backup easily arrested them, and I took Gustav in. And guess what?” “What?” Ana Sophia asked, so interested in how things went down. “Gustav’s daughter, whom he has been hiding from the world this whole time, was present, and we arrested her as well. Also, while we were searching the warehouse for more evidence, I found a hidden mechanism that led to their secret lair. I got tons of evidence against Gustav and his gang and other cartels that were associated with him. We also found a bunch of dead bodies, and to make things better, his daughter, who is a scaredy cat, easily confessed, and now we can easily charge them in court and have them convicted. We have all reasonable evidence against them, all because of me, the savior of the Valencia Police Department,” Mike finished smugly while Ane Sophia grimaced. She had to admit that she lost by a margin; all the perps she caught were amateur thieves and people accused of assault. “I want in on Gustav’s case,” Ana Sophia said as she walked closer to Mike and whispered in his ear. “No, Sophia, you will literally die. The people involved with him are crazy people, Sophia, crazy Mafia lords, plus you don’t even have the authority to participate in this case. You are a mere officer, not a detective. Just focus on your work and don’t get caught, okay?” Mike said, suddenly turning serious, and she reluctantly nodded and walked away, but she had her own ideas. If she could investigate Gustav, she would be an inch closer to solving the death of her father. She went to the female locker room and changed out of her police uniform and into her normal clothes. Once she was done, she clocked out and took a bus home. It was already evening when she got home, but her Abuelita had kept the light on for her, even though she had long gone to bed. She entered into the small bungalow with a faint smile on her face; every day her grandmother always made sure she felt the warmth of a home. She removed her keys from her bag and unlocked the door, then walked into the dimly lit room. With light steps she walked to the kitchen, trying her best to not wake up her sleeping grandmother. She opened the covered plate and saw a plate of Pabellon criollo ready for her. She carried the plate to the small wooden dining table just outside the kitchen, and without changing from her work clothes, she sat down and wolfed down her food. It was now five years after her mother had disowned her, and ever since then she had not heard from her mother. She thought her mother would calm down after a few months, but it was just her wishful thinking. After she moved out of her parents’ home, she moved into her abuelita’s house. It was a small old bungalow that her abuelita had been living in forever; it was also her father’s childhood home. She loved living there; it made her feel closer to her father. Her abuelita was in support of her joining the police force, so she sponsored Ana Sophia to police school, but she was against Sophia’s idea of revenge. After Ana Sophia was done with her meal, she washed the plate and went to take a nap. On her bed, different thoughts came rushing in; if only there was a way she could input herself into Gustav’s case, then she might be able to subtly investigate the death of her father. Ever since her father had died, she thought the police would take up the case and arrest the person who murdered her father, but the police labeled it a dead case in less than a month and abandoned it. She took matters into her own hands and joined the police force just for her father. She tried her hardest to climb up; if only she could become a detective, then she would have more authority to investigate the death of her father. But for now she was just stuck as a mere patrol officer. She was so jealous of Mike, her work nemesis; catching Gustav would immediately put him in line for a promotion. If only she were the one who caught him, how sweet would that be? She slowly drifted into dreamland.Chapter 10 Once they got in, Elena led her to the living room where they sat, while Setenta followed closely behind them. "It's really bittersweet, Mama. I have been away from you for all these years, and the second I come back, I get married off." Ana Sophia said with a sad look, loud enough for Setenta, who sat at the far corner of the living room, to hear. "Setenta," Ana Sophia called out. “Yes, madam." “Mama and I have a need to do some catching up; I would really appreciate it if you gave us some privacy," she said with a smile. There was no way she could achieve her purpose if Sententa kept on trolling her every move. “But your health, madam." "Don't worry about that; Mama will take care of me." She let out a few coughs. “Yes, madam." Sententa answered, causing Sophia’s eyes to widen; she did not expect it to be that easy. With no second thought, she dragged Elena up; they both walked upstairs and entered Sophia’s room. Once they were in, every sense of cour
Chapter 9 Ana Sophia woke up. She winced as she was hit with a sharp pain in her head . She turned to her side and slowly opened her eyes just to see a drip that was attached to her right arm. “Oh madam, you are awake." The maid who led her out of the dungeon earlier that day said with a worried look. "Yes," Ana Sophia croaked; her throat felt as dry as ever. She silently cursed Jose in her mind, he was the cause of all her problems. Her mission was not supposed to be this hard; who knew Elena would take advantage of her and make her marry Jose in her daughter's place? She really wished she could go to Gustav's mansion to kill Elena, that stupid witch. “Madam, El Jafe Roberto wants to see you." The maid spoke up again with a kind smile as she walked towards Ana Sophia; in a swift, gentle motion, she helped Ana Sophia up and removed the drip needle attached to Sophia’s hands. The sharp pain caused her to curse Jose in her mind once again . With small steps she made her wa
Her body turned cold, and she began to shiver. She did not know what was about to become of her. She began to think of the worst possible outcomes, especially after she had witnessed what Jose was capable of doing. His two lackeys happily followed behind them, waiting to see what will become of Jose’s new bride. "Jose, please, I was tipsy, and I was looking for a room," she explained with a shaky voice as he dragged her down the long hallway. "Okay," he said, ignoring her pleas. He dragged her down the stairs all the way to the basement. Once she saw he was leading her towards the basement, every atom in her body began screaming for help; nothing good ever happens in the basement. She kept quiet once she realized that her screams were not moving Jose one bit. She had already tried the weak persona, and it obviously did not work. She thought men in the mafia liked weak women, but Jose was clearly an exception. She decided to change tactics, anything to survive one more day.
The reception was meant to take place in the Fernendez mansion. Once the wedding ceremony had concluded, they walked down the aisle together in the midst of everyone's applause. They walked out of the church and into the limo waiting for them. Seeing that they were both in the car, the driver nodded and drove away. Now she was left alone with Jose Fernandez, the most ruthless man in the mafia; one wrong breath taken could make him take her life. She dared not to talk or even breathe wrongly. Jose, who sat beside her, frustratedly yanked his tie off his neck, unbuttoning his shirt and exposing his magnificent neck tattoos, she took in a deep breath at the sight before her. “What are you looking at?” he barked coldly, causing her to flinch back. "Nothing," she quickly replied while internally trying to remind herself not to show too much weakness; if not, she would die without a resting place. After a couple minutes they finally arrived at the Fernandez Mansion. The guards o
It was the day of her wedding, and it was taking place in St. Catherine Chapel, a church where most Mafia families got married. Ana Sophia sat in the room where the bride was supposed to get ready, waiting for her stylist and makeup artist to arrive so that she could get ready. The door to the room was slowly pried open, and she turned around, thinking her glam team was finally here, but it was a bulky-looking man in a tuxedo. She immediately recognized him when she saw the pink eyepatch on his eyes. “Mikolos?” she asked just to be sure. “Yes, Miss Gonzalez, I am Mikolos,” he acknowledges, causing her to breathe a sigh of relief. “I called the General Commissioner and told him about the situation; there is nothing we can do about this. Roberto Fernandez has already seen your face. Plus, this is an advantage for the police force; once you go into the Fernandez mansion, you would probably get more evidence about the mafia than in the Gustav mansion. The Fernandez are at the
Three days had passed, and it was the day of her welcome party that was going to be held in the Gustav mansion. Powerful Mafia lords, their wives, and rich second-generation heirs were invited, all to celebrate the return of Mariana Gustav, the only daughter and child of the Gustav family that had been hidden away from the public eye. They respected the invitation because although the Gustav family was not as strong as they used to be, they still had powerful connections, plus they were curious about what Mariana Gustav would look like. The party was supposed to start by five pm; the female servants in the house that were appointed to her by Elena, along with Gutav’s special stylist team, helped her to get ready. Once her makeup was ready, they brought out a pink mermaid gown embedded with real diamond stones and crystal beads sewn in; it was dazzling in the light. As Ana Sophia marveled at the sight of the dress she was going to wear, her resolve to bring the cartel down
