At long last, it was time for the roll call of everyone who had found their mate that night. Alice stood by William, her hands in his, awaiting their names to be called. The entire ballroom was quiet as names were called in pairs, continuously… until the last name, which was saved for last, as designed.
“And our final and most unexpected pair of the night,” the announcer said, and took another look at the card he had in his hand to be sure he read the names. “Alpha William Sinclair of the Twilight Pack and Natasha, of the House of Thorne.”
At that moment, William let go of Alice and walked to where Natasha stood, already waiting for him. William and Natasha walked hand in hand. Natasha's face grew a blushing red. Every eye turned to them as they walked elegantly to the front of the ceremony.
The entire ball was thrown into utter confusion, as everyone was expecting the power mate to be William and Alice, daughter of the Grand Alpha, not the Reject of society, a wolf-less half-breed.
As for Alice, she was frozen in shock. Her brain found it impossible to comprehend what was going on before her very eyes, but could you blame her? She was just as much in the dark as everyone else.
Thoughts such as "his fate is the absolute worst" and "how lucky is she? She doesn’t deserve such a fate…" Murmurs swept across the ballroom; everyone had something to say.
William could feel how nervous Natasha was right now. The entire occurrence was overwhelming enough for her without the green eyes that were on her. “Stare into my eyes,” he said, drawing her closer. “Drown out the noise; it’s just me and you, okay?” She nodded. Natasha looked into his eyes, and a calm sensation washed over her.
“I, Sir William, Alpha of the Twilight Pack, accept Natasha of the House of Thorne as my mate,” William said.
“I, Natasha of the House of Thorne, accept Sir William, Alpha of the Twilight Pack as my mate,” Natasha repeated.
“Then it is settled. You shall have a year of honeymoon courtship after which you will decide if you want to be one, and for her to be your Luna,” the announcer said. Honeymoon courtship is the time spent together by newly found mates to get to know each other before they are announced as a bonded/married couple or for a mate annulment.
With that concluded, all that was left was the ball dance. “Shall we?” William said, stretching forth his hand with a bow.
"Sure," she agreed with a gracious smile. Taking William's outstretched hand, they twirled into an elegant waltz. Their movements were captivating as they effortlessly glided across the floor, matching each other's steps with grace. Everyone couldn't help but watch in awe, captivated by their natural charm and magnetic presence. Some even began to see them as the perfect couple, true mates. Some, but not Alice, who stood in the corner of the ballroom, hiding in shame and boiling rage.
Alice walked up, interrupting their dance. “Alice, I…” William tried to speak but was cut off.
“My father sends for you,” she said, with her head bowed. Alice couldn’t bring herself to look at him. Her rage was for one person and one person alone, the one who stole what was hers.
William straightened up immediately. “The Grand Alpha… he is here?” William said.
“Yes, and he wants to see you,” she replied with her head still bowed.
“Okay, where is he?” William replied, visibly nervous.
Alice pointed him toward the direction of the balcony. “I will be back,” he said to Natasha.
“Okay,” she replied.
William left, leaving Natasha and Alice together. There was an eerie silent tension between them.
“Alice, I…”
“How dare you steal what was rightfully mine! Do you have any idea what you have done?” Alice fired at her. Her face raised, and her eyes burned in anger.
“Alice, I’m sorry, but…”
“You are sorry? Oh, let me guess, but you don’t see how any of this is your fault,” Alice said.
Natasha was mute. That was indeed what she was about to say.
“I don’t care if you are mated to him or not, William is mine, and I will burn to the ground anyone who stands in my way,” Alice said and stormed off.
Natasha stood frozen and confused. She knew this plan of theirs was going to be difficult, but she never thought of it as life-threatening. But if Alice were to make good on her threat, wouldn’t it be best to call it quits? But no, for some reason, Alice’s words lit up a long-quenched fire in her.
“Game on, bitch,” she whispered to herself.
In William's absence, Natasha remained the center of attention in the room. All eyes were on her, some filled with contempt, others with jealousy, and only a handful with admiration. "Natasha!" Alpha Jerome yelled as he approached her from behind. Natasha turned around, her tone polite. "Alpha Jerome." "What is the meaning of this?" he demanded, anger evident in his voice. "Alpha Jerome, I'm afraid I don't know what matter you speak of," Natasha replied innocently. "Don't you dare play pretend with me, you little..." "That's enough," William interrupted before Alpha Jerome could finish his sentence. Natasha's face lit up with relief; her savior had returned, shielding her from the wrath of Alpha Jerome. "You!" Alpha Jerome pointed his finger at William. "You shall pay dearly for your insolence, you..." "I advise you to choose your next words wisely, for the sake of your pack at least," William interjected, his voice calm as he flexed his fist gracefully. Taken aback by Willia
Fifteen days had passed since the mating ceremony, and Natasha couldn't shake the feeling of abandonment that had settled over her. She had entered into a deal with William to pretend to be each other's mates, but he hadn't visited her once. Her life within the walls of the Sinclair Mansion had become a never-ending cycle of boredom and isolation. Her so-called honeymoon had turned into a prison of her own making, and William's conspicuous absence only exacerbated her frustration. As Natasha sat alone in her room, thoughts swirled in her mind, and her feelings towards William had transformed from admiration to resentment. She couldn't help but recall her mother's stories about the legendary Lycan King Lycaon, a figure she had come to revere. Perhaps her mother's unwavering belief in Lycaon's legend had driven her to accept William's offer without hesitation or in-depth knowledge. Now, the belief that William was the reincarnation of the Lycan King only fueled her frustration. Her thou
"My king...my king...rise, my king." William struggled to open his eyes; his vision was blurry, and his senses were in disarray."Where am I?" he asked the fully-kitted Werewolf soldier above him."We are on the battlefield, my king," the soldier replied.William was confused as to why the soldier kept referring to him as a king, but he had more pressing questions. "Battlefield? Why? Who are we fighting against?" he asked, his confusion evident."Are you sure you are okay, my king? You, of all people, should know the answer to that question," the soldier remarked, concerned. The atmosphere around William still felt surreal, but he started to grasp his current reality. "Of course," he said, realizing that the werewolves could only be at war with one race—the vampires. With this realization, William rose to his feet, grabbed his sword, and let out a loud battle cry. He fought through the enemy lines like a raging thunderstorm, destroying everything in his path. William was no longer in
William sprang up from his bed, jolted by the sunlight streaming through his bedroom window, piercing his eyes. He rushed into the bathroom and leaned over the basin, welcoming the cool water that cascaded over his head, a futile attempt to alleviate the throbbing migraine that had plagued him upon waking. As he stared at his reflection in the mirror, an odd yet profound dream lingered in his mind, though the details remained frustratingly elusive. Straining to remember only worsened his headache.Glancing at the wall clock, realization washed over him - he was dreadfully late for the Alpha Council meeting. "Oh no," he muttered, hurrying back to the bathroom to prepare himself. In less than thirty minutes, William dashed out of his room and took the stairs with purpose, aiming to minimize his tardiness. With an air of authority, he entered the pack's common room. As the Alpha of the Twilights, his mere presence commanded respect, and everyone acknowledged him with slight head bows, to
The meeting finally came to an end, and William desperately wished he could vanish from this place. But fate, as it often does, had other plans. The one person he had hoped to avoid had discovered him - Algernon Thorne, Natasha's grandfather."Where is my granddaughter!?" Algernon's voice seethed with anger."Sir Algernon, it's been a while," William replied."Yes, it has," Algernon retorted, his anger palpable. "Considering how diligently you've avoided me since your betrayal.""Betrayal? Come on now, you wouldn't seriously consider my divine union with your granddaughter as an act of betrayal, would you?"With alarming speed and strength, Algernon pinned William to the corner of the room."Going against Leonidas and involving my granddaughter. You must either be incredibly mad or incredibly foolish, pulling a stunt like this.""I swear to you, Algernon, I have no intention of causing harm to Natasha," William said earnestly."Really? Look me in the eyes and tell me that your connect
An unexpected chill lingered in the air as William stood on the mansion's balcony. He savored the view with the Pleiades star pointing southeast, aligning with Mars—a celestial occurrence that happened once a decade. His gaze drank in the scenery, and the breeze caressed his skin, but his thoughts wandered elsewhere. If only he had played his part and mated with Alice on the night of the mating ceremony, he wouldn't have a target on his back from two of Hayden's strongest werewolves. Defying the Grand Alpha was one thing, but dealing with Algernon Throne was another. William cursed himself for bringing Natasha into all of this. Algernon had practically raised him after his parent's death, and the thought of repaying him by jeopardizing his granddaughter's happiness and life ate at him."It's truly beautiful, isn't it?" Alice's voice broke through his thoughts as she approached William, drawing him back to reality.William's expression shifted abruptly, his admiring smirk turning into
The clouds grew darker and stormier, and a looming storm darkened the sky, but Natasha's mood was so bright and lit up it blinded her from her surroundings, and to everything around her.She continued walking, without pause or a second thought about her direction. She found herself questioning her own emotions—how could she find happiness in a compliment from the very lips that had cast her aside? From a man who had pushed her to the brink and then abandoned her? She was sure she had grown to despise him. So why did her heart betray her by reacting this way?Her cold, fierce hatred for William began to fade, evident in her beaming smile, flushed cheeks, and the goosebumps that erupted across her skin. She struggled to suppress these uninvited feelings. Despite the warmth his recent actions stirred within her, she couldn't forget the immense pain and heartache he had inflicted upon her. No amount of kind words or courageous deeds could erase those memories. As Natasha walked on, her m
"Ouch," she groaned, awakened by the relentless, splitting headache. Natasha slowly rose from the bed, her head wrapped in bandages. Turning to her left, Natasha found William sitting by her bedside."What are you doing here?" Natasha asked, her head still pounding as she spoke."Hey, hey, take it easy," William said."You… you saved me," Natasha stuttered as flashes of the night before began to resurface in her head."Yes, that I did, but there’s no need to thank me. It was my pleasure and duty, as your mate," William replied with a smile, but the idea that he had just referred to her as his mate stung Natasha like a bee.Natasha's demeanor changed in an instant."Your ma… your mate, are you serious?" She asked, to which William replied with a smirk which angered her even more.Natasha scoffed and, like a being possessed by anger and hate, she sprang up from the bed and marched out of the room."Natasha," William called out, but Natasha gave no response. "Where are you going? Where a
