Alaric lied down beside him and said, “I too had a mate, but he was called husband. I was married to him, but our village was attacked and I ended up here in your world instead of dying.”
“Huh?” Valentino asked, confused.
He sat up and looked down at Alaric and said, “You need to explain it to me clearly so I can understand. Did you not say we need to get to know one another?”
Alaric scoffed and said, “I was part of a race one thousand human years ago. The other races were jealous that we were far advanced than theirs and stole what we cultivated to use against us. I was nothing but a poor man, but my husband was rich and was one of the leading men who had led our race to where it was — he loved me for who I was and even though many said I was useless, he believed otherwise. He always told me that as stressful as his job was, whenever he was with me, nothing seemed to matter.”
