“You. Why are you here?” The guard asked me, scanning around. “Where are you coming from?” He wondered. “Do you realize how they’re searching for you so much?”

“Can you please escort me to the pack house? I’m scared to walk alone.” I begged him , expecting him to frown and spit at me to get out and find my way.

“Sure, why not? I’ll inform someone else to guard my spot.” He scurried to another guard a few feet away from me and returned. “Let’s go.” The fact that he wasn’t being grumpy was strange.

I followed quietly behind him, ignoring how my legs ached from the long walk when we arrived at the pack house.

“Please don’t inform anyone about my presence yet. I just need to go to bed.” I requested, remembering that they could mind link one another.

“Okay…” he trailed off like he wasn’t certain.

“Thank you for the escort.” I bowed my head.

“It’s fine. Go inside. I have to get going now.” He waved at me and scuttled out of my presence.
