I tried to hug her, but she winced at the attempt, so I released her and gently helped her sit on the bed. Her body was covered in a mosaic of cuts, inflicted by claws and knives, and I knew that those wounds would leave lasting scars, just like the ones I carried.
"I'm so sorry, Julia. I didn't realize that my actions would result in this," I apologized, tears streaming down my face.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, brushing aside my apology. I wiped my tears, mustering a soft smile for her.
"This is my new room. A guard brought me here," I replied, and she furrowed her brow, a look of utter confusion crossing her face.
"Why is this your new room? You're married to Alpha Victor. Shouldn't you be staying in his house?" she queried, her voice filled with genuine bewilderment. I shrugged, at a loss for how to answer her probing questions.
"I don't think Alpha Victor acknowledges our marriage. He believes that Alpha Caleb sent me here to spy on him and the Pack. So, he won't treat me like a wife, but he also won't let me leave. I'm caught in this limbo, back to being an Omega," I explained with a bitter scoff, my brows furrowing.
"He's insane," she blurted out, and I nodded in agreement. I couldn't disagree with her. Victor was truly deranged, more of a maniac than an alpha. "Even if he doesn't want to accept you, does he have to degrade you to an Omega? What will people say if they find out that he reduced his own wife and the Luna of his pack to an Omega?"
"He's sending me a message, really. It's like he's saying, 'You belong here, don't dare to hope for more. Stay here, hide in the shadows, or else you're as good as dead. Nobody cares about an Omega. Nobody will care about you,'" I elaborated, my voice laced with bitterness and resentment. "He called me weak, pathetic, and wolfless—a disgrace unfit to be his wife or the Luna of his pack."
"He's a lunatic," Julia stated matter-of-factly, shaking her head in disbelief.
"I mean, when I tried to escape through the window, that bastard pushed me off the building and reveled in it. And when I woke up, he actually expressed disappointment that I didn't die. That was the lowest of the low," I added, a shiver running down my spine at the memory.
Suddenly, a knock interrupted our conversation, and Julia muttered a "come in." The door swung open, revealing a plump woman with an imposing presence. She wasn't particularly tall, but her stature commanded attention. Her face, though pretty, lacked any hint of warmth or compassion.
"The two of you look like nothing but trouble, considering you've managed to get injured even before starting work," the woman pointed out, her disapproving gaze assessing both Julia and me.
" Who are you? " Julia asked, ignoring what the woman said. She turned to look at Julia, smiling pitifully as she eyed her from head to toe.
" You look like you're in pain. Just a little more time and you'll get used to it, " she assured, clasping her hands together.
" I am Sarah, the head of this place, " she introduced and my lips curved to form an ' o ', remembering what the guard said about Sarah coming to tell us what to do here.
" From tomorrow, you're to resume work. You will both be in the kitchen, tasked with cleaning, washing and serving. You are not allowed to cook or touch food ingredients unless given orders by the chefs there. You'll both serve the higher-ups during breakfast, lunch and dinner and also tend to all their needs, " she informed and we both nodded in understanding.
" For every complaint the higher-ups make against you, you'll be punished accordingly and if you make mistakes they aren't pleased with, they have every right to punish you in their own way. But it'll be avoided if you give them the respect they ask for and also try to understand each of their preferences, " she added.
" You can ask the other girls about the people you'll be serving and what you should expect from them. You must wake up at five every morning to assist in the kitchen before breakfast which starts at seven. You'll clean the kitchen and assist before lunch which is by two and do the same for dinner which is by eight. If you have any questions, direct them to me, though I believe that both of you should know how it is being done, " she said again and walked out of the room without waiting for our response.
Julia looked at me and I shrugged, not knowing what to say. This was our life now. No, it has always been our life, but this was a different thing entirely. I was now to serve the person who was supposed to be my husband, without letting anyone know I was actually married to him.
" We can do this, right? " I asked her and she nodded, smiling softly, though I could see the worry in her eyes. Who wouldn't be? This was so new to us. At least, we weren't scared of anything in the Moonfire Pack as we already knew everything about what they needed and what to expect from them. So, it wasn't much to a burden to us.
The door swung open once again, and the guard barged into the room. I clenched my fists, suppressing the urge to roll my eyes at his recurring rudeness. I longed to confront him about his incessant habit of entering without knocking, but the fear of provoking Victor and inviting further punishment held me back.
"The Alpha wants to see you in his office, right now," he ordered, his voice carrying a weight of authority. I turned to Julia, and our eyes met, silently exchanging a mixture of concern and apprehension.
' What does he want this time around? '
' What does he want this time around? ' I stood up from the bed and made to walk out of the room, but Julia held my hands and I looked at the guard, who was still waiting for me. She made a sign to me and I instantly understood what she meant. " Can you please wait for me outside? Five minutes is enough, " I pleaded, clasping my hands together. He looked at me and then at Julia and let out a sigh before leaving the room. " What's wrong? Why did you hold me like that? Is there something you want to say? Or am I missing something? " I questioned her, sitting down beside her. " I just wanted to tell you something before you go and didn't want to say it while he was here, " she explained and I nodded, taking her hands in mine. " You have to be careful, this isn't the Moonfire Pack and I believe these people are more cruel than them, " she expressed her thoughts and I nodded again agreeing with her. " To be honest, I prefer the Moonfire Pack to this place. This place is scary, " I wh
" Alpha Victor, " I called out, but was ignored as he walked out of the office. I closed my eyes, for fear that he would drop me, but he began to walk downstairs.I hid my face in his chest in case someone passed. The last thing I wanted was to be reprimanded by the pack members for trying to seduce their Alpha because I knew he wouldn't care to correct their thoughts. After all, I was a weak and pathetic Omega who couldn't even walk.We got out of the house, but he kept walking. My legs were fine already, they weren't trembling anymore. I tried to tell him to put me down so I could walk back to the Omega's house, but strangely, I wasn't able to talk. It was like they were sealed and I knew it was his doing. We got to the front of the Omega's house, and prayed that he wouldn't take me inside. Fortunately, he stopped walking and put me down, pink color creeping
MAYAThe loud ringing of a bell was what woke Julia and I this morning. I looked at the old clock on the wall and realized that it was five o'clock, the time Sarah told us we were to wake up.Julia and I immediately got out of bed and took our clothes before heading to the bathroom. We both gasped at the line of ladies who were waiting to take their bath and the bathroom was just two stalls. We fell in line since we knew that reporting to the kitchen without taking our bath would result in a grave punishment from the chefs. The Moonfire Pack had taught us enough of that and we wouldn't want to make the same mistake in this pack.We ended up going to work late as we were the last set to take our bath and by the time we got to the kitchen, the breakfast we were supposed to have had finished. Which meant that there was no breakfast for us and we had to wait till
I stood there, looking at him warily, unsure of what his deal was this time around. The aroma in the air meant that he actually made food, but why he called me here was what I couldn't decipher." You made a meal for me? " I asked, cringing at the thought and he nodded. " Why? "." Because I wanted to. Is there a problem with that, " he snapped at me. He cooked for me, but his personality still remained the same. How the hell does he expect me to interpret that?Without waiting for any response from me, he held my shoulders and guided me to the dining room. He pulled out a seat for me, gesturing for me to sit down. I stood there for a minute, debating on whether I should sit or run, since I found his behavior rather strange and suspicious.Still, I sat down on the chair, clearing my throat. He excused himself for a while and left the dining room, coming back with a tray of food. He placed the food on the table and I swallowed my saliva, trying not to act like I was affected by the foo
VICTOR BLOODBORNE" Alpha, we are under attack, " the guard told me and I stood up from the couch I was sitting on." What's the status? " I asked as I headed outside." The rogues are about thirty. The Warriors are trying to fight them, but most of the Warriors are not available, so we're being overpowered, " be explained and I nodded. " Try to keep them until I get there, I'll be there soon, " I assured them and cut the call. I tried to leave the house, but Maya held my arms and I had to turn to look at her" Is everything alright? " She asked and I nodded my head." Rogues have managed to enter the Pack, but it is something we can keep in control. But, you must stay here. Under no circumstance must you leave this house, do you understand? " I asked and she nodded her head. I contemplated on whether I should lock the door or not, but I decided not to as I had no time for that.I walked away from the house and took off my clothes, trying them on my legs before shifting. I was a big
MAYAI watched as Alpha Victor ran out of the house and into the woods. For some reasons, I was concerned about his safety, but I brushed it off since I knew he was Alpha and could protect himself.Instead, I closed the door behind me and walked back to the sofa to sit down, taking a last gulp of my drink before I placed it back on the table.I tried not to think about his safety, but every time I tried to avoid it, the death of Alpha Caleb always popped up in my head." What the hell is your problem, Maya? Why can't you just think straight? " I asked as I patted my face, trying to focus. In a moment, Julia's face flashed in my memory and I got up instantly, feeling stupid for forgetting about her just because I was so preoccupied with the thought of Alpha Victor.I walked towards the door, promising that all I would
I opened my eyes slowly and blinked, trying to get familiar with my surroundings. The ceiling was white and there was a beeping monitor beside me. It only made sense one place I would be at, the hospital.I tried to get up, but I felt a sharp pain and laid down. I winced, and closed my eyes, trying to remember all that happened." You're awake, " Alpha Victor called out and I turned to look at him, sitting on the couch, his eyes swollen like he didn't sleep well." What happened? " I asked him, trying to sit up again and this time around, I did it successfully." I find it really surprising that you don't remember last night's event even after you disobeyed my orders twice, Maya, " he said, standing up and walking towards me. For some reason, I liked the way my name sounded on his lips.I closed my eyes again and tried to remember a
" You'll be staying here from now on, " he ordered and my eyes widened, wondering if I heard him well as there was no reason for him to tell me to live with them." I don't understand, Alpha Victor. Why would I live in a higher-up's house? " I asked him, trying to free my hands from his grip." Didn't you hear what the doctor said? I have to take extra caution with you which means that I must watch over you like a nanny every fucking time. Will you still say that you've not added yourself to the problems bi have at hand? " he spat out and I couldn't hold the scoff that came out from my mouth." I didn't ask you to do that for me, you're the one telling me to come live in your house when I clearly have a place to stay. Besides, I'm not a kid that can't take care of herself and Julia can help tend to my injuries. You do not have to concern yourself over an Omega like me and I don't want to add t
