Chapter 1: New Obsession

Ethan Carter leaned back in his seat, arms folded behind his head, a smug smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. The usual monotony of senior year had just been shattered the moment she walked in.

Ms. Vivian Hayes.

She wasn’t like the other teachers—dull, uninspiring, predictable. No, she was something else entirely. She carried herself with a quiet confidence, her deep brown eyes scanning the room with authority. Her fitted blouse accentuated every curve, her pencil skirt hugging her hips in a way that made Ethan’s mind drift to places it shouldn’t.

He exhaled slowly, watching her every movement as she placed her books on the desk. Her auburn hair cascaded over one shoulder, catching the sunlight streaming through the window, making her look almost ethereal. A slow, predatory grin spread across his face.

“Well, well,” he murmured under his breath. “Looks like Lit class just got interesting.”

His best friend, Jason, nudged him. “Dude, are you seeing what I’m seeing?”

Ethan chuckled, his blue eyes darkening with mischief. “Oh, I’m seeing it all right.”

Ms. Hayes cleared her throat, bringing immediate silence to the room. She had presence, he’d give her that. There was something almost intoxicating about the way she held herself, how she commanded attention without saying a word.

“My name is Ms. Hayes,” she introduced, her voice smooth and professional. “I’ll be your literature teacher for the rest of the year.”

Ethan let out a slow whistle under his breath, loud enough for those around him to snicker. Ms. Hayes lifted a single, well-groomed brow and met his gaze.

“Is there something amusing, Mr…?”

“Carter,” Ethan replied smoothly, his voice laced with confidence. “And no, ma’am. I just wasn’t expecting someone like you to be teaching here.”

Vivian tilted her head, intrigue flickering in her gaze. “Someone like me?”

He leaned forward, elbows resting on his desk, eyes shamelessly raking over her figure. “Young. Gorgeous. Out of place in a school full of desperate teenage boys.”

A hushed silence fell over the class. A few gasps. A few muffled laughs. Jason slapped a hand over his mouth, barely suppressing his own amusement.

Ms. Hayes didn’t flinch. If anything, she seemed unimpressed. Her lips pressed together in the faintest hint of disapproval.

“Well, Mr. Carter, I assure you my presence here is purely professional. I’m not here for your entertainment,” she said, her voice even, controlled.

Ethan’s smirk only widened. He liked a challenge. “Oh, I don’t know, Ms. Hayes. Something tells me you’re going to make this year very entertaining.”

A slow inhale. A flicker of something in her gaze—annoyance, intrigue, maybe both. But she remained composed.

“Let’s get something clear,” she said, walking toward him with deliberate steps. The scent of vanilla and jasmine trailed behind her, making Ethan’s pulse kick up a notch. She placed her palms flat on his desk, leaning in just enough for him to catch the warmth of her breath. “I don’t play games with students. So, if you think you can flirt your way through my class, you’re sorely mistaken.”

The classroom was dead silent now. All eyes were on them.

Ethan, unfazed, met her gaze with equal intensity. “Are you sure about that, Ms. Hayes?” he murmured, voice dropping just enough to make it suggestive.

For a split second, something flickered in her brown eyes—something unreadable. Then, she straightened, her expression turning cold.

“I’m very sure,” she replied, her tone sharp, final. “Now, open your books. Page ten.”

Ethan chuckled under his breath as he flipped open his book. Oh, yeah. This was going to be fun.

The rest of the class dragged on, but Ethan barely paid attention to the lecture. Instead, he spent the entire hour watching her—studying the way she moved, the way she bit her lip when she was deep in thought, the way her fingers trailed lightly across the pages of her book. Everything about her was hypnotic.

When the bell rang, students filed out, but Ethan took his time, lingering at his desk. He wanted a moment alone with her.

Vivian was gathering her things when she noticed him still seated. She let out a sigh. “Is there something else, Mr. Carter?”

Ethan pushed himself up from his chair, walking towards her desk with slow, deliberate steps. “You intrigue me, Ms. Hayes.”

She folded her arms. “That’s not my concern.”

“Maybe not,” he admitted, resting his hands on her desk and leaning in slightly. “But I’m going to enjoy figuring you out.”

Her lips pressed into a firm line, but he noticed the way her breath hitched just slightly. It was enough to make him smirk.

“Go home, Ethan,” she said, voice controlled, but he caught the slight falter.

He grinned. “See you tomorrow, Ms. Hayes.”

As he walked out of the classroom, he could feel her eyes on him.

Oh, yeah. This was just the beginning.
