Chapter 4

Leila's Pov

I ran as fast as I could towards the direction I had in mind. I could see the pack's boundary and my heart danced with joy knowing that in a few minutes, we would be free. I would be free from all the hatred, bullying and torture. What more could a mere girl like me ask for if it wasn't freedom? Freedom from the society itself and the people in it. The closer I got, the stronger the smell of freedom hit me, and the happier I became. The boundary was full of snow and as much as I wanted to play with it, I couldn't. I couldn't risk being caught. I had had a chance to smell freedom and there was no way I could let anyone take it away from me.

As I crossed the border, some sadness but me but at the same time, I had loosened up. I was so sure that the sadness was because I had left my sister behind.

"I am finally free," I shouted then started laughing.

I looked around and saw that the area was just surrounded by tall trees and grass. How I wish that werewolves ate grass, maybe the grass would have been shorter than it is right now.

I knew that I had no time to waste and the quicker I got out of this place, the better. I ran as fast as I could. Maybe I had no wolf but I had the speed while running. Mom had always made sure that Elan and I practised enough and that we could rely on human form when we didn't want to use our wolf. Maybe she knew that whatever happened to me two years ago would happen.

But would she have hosted a party so that people could witness my first shift?

Maybe she didn't know, she was just being cautious.

The farther I ran, the more the land became beautiful. The place was just intriguing and I felt already at home. I felt as if I was content. I saw trees which had not dried up, not even a single tree. The grass was not as long as it was when I left our pack. It seemed as if it had been trimmed but by whom? I looked around so that I could see whether there was any cottage but there wasn't. I continued running hoping to see another beautiful scenery.

I halted when I realised that I had reached the end of the road or should I say the end of my journey. I was on a hill. I looked below and got a glimpse of the sea. The sea was fascinating and I felt as if it was calling unto me. It wouldn't be a bad idea to die on the sea.

I sat at the edge and looked at the sea as I started thinking about what would become of my life.

Yes, I had run away but where would I go?

Why would I live?

Why would I get some food to eat?

At this time, I realised that I had been ungrateful. Yes, I had no wolf or a mate but at least I had a loving sister and brother, a roof above my head and always had something to put in my mouth. I had no money with me hence it would be so difficult for me to start a new life. If only I had thought that before leaving. I would have taken some money from our saving drawer or Elana's. I a sure that she wouldn't have minded.

At this point, I felt as if the right thing for me is to die. At least I know all my suffering would come to an end. No humiliation, feeling ashamed, being bullied or feeling as if I am a burden.

Standing up, I looked at the sea one more time and smiled at it. Knowing that we would be together in a while. I took two steps in front but I heard a voice.

"Leila," it shouted.

That was enough for me to step backwards. I knew for sure it wasn't Elana cause there is no way she would have found me so easily. I looked around and saw a tall handsome guy. The heartbeat…

I listened to his heartbeat and realised that it was just like mine.

How can this be?

Is it even possible?

"Leila, it is time," the same voice said once again. I looked around yet, but I couldn't find anyone. I knew it wasn't the guy standing in front of me cause it was a woman's voice.

I felt a sharp pain which was enough for me to let out a cry.

"Aaah," I shouted once more.

The pain continued increasing making it hard for me to bear it.

"Just relax little wolf. You are just shifting," the guy said.

Shifting?

How?

Wait!

"No, you are lying. I ….I have no …no wo….wolf," I stammered due to the pain which was becoming severe.

"Aaah… it's painful," I cried once more.

"As I said before, just relax and give in," he said once more.

"B..bu…but…." I was unable to finish my sentence since the pain made me fall to the ground.

I heard my backbone break, making me be on fours. It was then followed by my legs and hands.

"It is over," he said.

I looked up at him and saw that he was smiling. I looked at my hands and saw paws instead of hands.

How?

"I finally had a wolf," I tried saying out loud but it came out as a growl, making him laugh.

Something was making me feel happy when I looked at him. It's as if he is my mate but how is it possible? I knew that Liam was my mate. Then how does this handsome guy have some effect on me?

I looked in front of me only to realise that he had already shifted.

His wolf was just beautiful and it made me feel more connected to them. He licked my face and then jumped on me.
