Chapter Fifty-Three

Rae woke up feeling lonely and broken.

It was a horrible feeling. She couldn't even breathe. She turned on her side and felt like she would retch. She opened her mouth and inched closer to the edge of the bed so her head was right above the floor but nothing came. Her nausea was spiritual, not physical.

She lay on her back and stared at the ceiling. Her clothes were clinging to her body. She was anxious the whole night and didn't sleep well. She strained her ears to hear something but the house was silent. She feared that Keegan had been caught. If he had, would she have known by now? She didn't know. She couldn't be sure.

All that was said was still being processed. She would need a lot of time to come to terms with everything and accept the ugly truth. And boy, was it ugly.
