Chapter 11

Jane’s stance

I need to tell my mom about my new achievement. We haven’t spoken in a long time, and I feel terrible. I pick up my phone to dial her number. She picks up on the third ring.

“Hello, Mom. How are you?" I ask as she answers her call. It has been a while since I last heard my dear mother’s voice.

“I’m fine, my darling daughter. How are you doing over there?”

I know she’s worried about me and misses me a lot. She must be lonely because I’m her best friend. I imagine her with a lot of wrinkles by now, but I know that’s not accurate. She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever met.

“I’m fine, mom, and how’s dad?”

“Oh, your dad? He’s doing well. He’s always busy with pack affairs. There’s no time for me,” she responds. “I’m lonely here without my baby. Mother misses you a lot, my sugar pie.”

“I miss you too, Mom, and I have good news for you.”

“What good news is that, daughter?” she inquires. “Be fast to spill everything out.”
