Aurora
“Is this a dream?” I mumbled quietly to myself. Unknown to me, it slipped out to the ears of the one who I wished didn’t hear it the most. “It's not a dream, you crazy girl.” That baritone voice was only Darius. He looked at me with a puzzled look. He shot me a glare that took me aback. My eyes widened in disbelief. I tried to tilt my head forward, but I have not gotten my full strength back, yet there was significant progress in the healing of my wounds. “Alpha…” I stuttered. His expression remained unfazed. His eyes darkened as he stared at me deeply. Before I could finish my sentence, he snapped. “I can see your wounds are healing quicker than I expected. It’s impressive for someone without a wolf.” He scuffed. I didn’t even notice he was holding my hands until he suddenly let go. He adjusted his seat back, which stirred a sad feeling in my heart. From his expression, I could tell he was trying to control his anger, yet his patience was wearing thin. He suddenly stood upright and started pacing around, huffing away. “Why will you make such a stupid decision? Do you realize you could have been kidnapped or even worse…” He said in a sharp voice. He had a concerned facial expression, which surprisingly sent some fuzzy feeling through my bones.”Does he care about me?” I thought to myself. This time, I made sure I wasn’t heard out loud. “I’m so sorry, Alpha. I promise I won’t do it again.” I cowered slowly. I bit my lips. He only gave me a “hmph” expression and stormed out of the room. I let out an inward sigh. My demeanor was subdued, considering how my actions had caused Darius distress. I was sure a lot of people would have rejoiced in my disappearance. Yet, a slimmer feeling of joy knowing that he was worried about my safety crept in. I wasn’t used to people displaying any form of affection or concern for my protection. I was always the invincible one who got lost in the crowd or pushed aside. But to my surprise, an entire pack and its alpha were genuinely worried and even scared of my well-being was a pleasant development that I dared not fantasize to be real. The remaining night was quiet, as only the nurses entered routinely to dress my wounds and help undress me, and fed me. I kept longing for Darius to return so I could properly apologize to him, but he never showed up again. It wasn’t till later in the night that I saw a male figure walk into the room. At first, I saw the leather Italian shoes step in which gave me a lot of hope. I looked up to meet the gaze of Beta Cameron, Darius’s closest advisor. He looked befuddled as he met my disappointed expression. “Were you expecting someone else, Aurora?” He asked with a grin on his face. He could tell he wasn’t the one I was expecting. Maybe someone else. “Not at all, Beta.” I feigned ignorance. He had an unconvinced look on his face, like he was about to utter some words. Then, he later changed his mind. He already knew I was hoping to see Alpha Darius. “He was the one who first found you and brought you back to the palace when you ran away. He also spent the whole night watching you sleep. You may not believe it, but the alpha really cares a lot about you. Running away really broke his heart-” Cameron’s eyes darkened as he sat down on the chair beside me. A pang of guilt washed over me. Now I fully understand why he was upset earlier. I averted Cameron’s gaze, embarrassed as he pulled his chair closer. “Since we were kids, Alpha Darius was always cold and seemed emotionless. Deep down, he’s very sensitive and protects people close to him. We, as a pack, have experienced different attacks from rivals, especially from your former pack, Silverfang. This has made him very paranoid, and he hardly trusts outsiders. But for some reason only known to fate, he let you into his heart. Don’t break his trust.” Cameron said in a serious tone. His dark gaze sent shivers down my spine. “I won’t,” I replied in a hoarse voice. This felt more like a warning than advice. My breath caught in my throat. His face remained indifferent, like he was still trying to decide if I was telling the truth. Moments later, he took a weary sigh, and his demeanor softened. He curved his lips slightly. “To understand the Alpha better, he likes his women strong and fierce. You should be able to handle yourself and stand by his side with pride and confidence…Just a food for thought.” Cameron rose and headed to the door. He gave a slight nod before stepping out. I instinctively nodded back in appreciation. “Strong and fierce..” I pondered the words of his Beta. I wanted to be by his side, not just as his breeder but also as his Luna. After this incident, I no longer want to appear fragile in his eyes. To earn his respect and heart, I have to become stronger, even though I am without a wolf; I will no longer be an object of spectacle and mockery. I will no longer be labeled as an omega. “I will no more be anyone’s prey.” I clenched my fists in frustration. Who sent those burly men to hunt me down and hurt me? Some many questions, yet I couldn’t pinpoint one person who will want me gone so badly.Darius.There was a cacophony of noise coming out from the gym room on my way back to the palace. Usually, I don’t intervene as my presence may be awkward or dampen the mood. Meanwhile, the noise intensified so much I couldn’t ignore any longer. My wolf grunted as we approached closer. The soldiers were so into the excitement that they didn’t even realize my arrival. My beta Cameron tried to alert them but I gestured him to be quiet. “Shh” I placed my finger on my lips for him to keep mute. I quietly walked behind them to see what the fuss was all about. Raven has just taken down one of my biggest warriors without any hassle.“He didn’t see her coming.” I muttered to myself. I had a broad smile of my face feeling impressed on my strongest warrior Raven. She fought beside me as me second-in-command in various battles and instilled an element of fear both in our enemies and also fellow soldiers as someone who wasn’t to be trifled with. There was a sense of confidence I had when she was
AuroraAfter some few days , my wounds were completely healed. The joy of standing in the sunshine again jolted me out of the room. I took a moment to enjoy the ambiance all around me as my skin glowed in porcelain white. From my peripheral vision, I caught some of the she-wolves in the courtyard stealing glances at me while passing through. They quickly dashed as I met their gaze. The few days I rested really brought out the fairness of my skin. “Maybe it’s the portion the healer gave me to drink.” I chuckled to myself. I continued to stroll around around the palace where I met Raven training with other warrior wolves in the gym room. She was in the process of coaching the others on self defense tactics when she noticed me. Initially, I shuddered and tried to walk away but something halted my movement. “Strong and fierce..” Suddenly I remembered the advice of Cameron yesterday and it dawned on me. “I’m no more anyone’s prey.” Instinctively I faced raven and nodded to greet her. Aurora “Come back to me…” I remembered hearing Darius voice vaguely as I gently opened my eyes. I woke up on a king size bed with the initials “D” beautifully crafted at the head-space. I looked around to see the interior decor of the Alpha Darius' bedroom. It had a minimalistic setting but still kept an extingusihed aura. It was filled with imported furnitures and expensive artworks. It also had sculptured statures that aligned with the huge mahogany table at the corner of the room.“This is the first time I’m seeing the inside of the alpha’s room.” I mumbled to myself. Before I could nourish my sight with its’ beauty, I felt a sharp pain.“Ouch!” I grimaced as I felt a thunderous headache like a large drum beating in my brain. Suddenly, Raven rushed in quickly.“What’s wrong Aurora?” She asked in a concerned voice. She had a worried facial expression like she genuinely cared for me. It was different than the usual condescending almost disdain look that I was accustomed with her.
DariusI returned to my palace, and to my surprise, there was a sense of panic all over. My wolf grunted as I had a gut feeling it was about Aurora. I saw Raven pacing around, so I called out to her.“Raven! What’s all the fuss about?” I snapped. She averted my gaze, and she slowly bent one of her knees in respect.“Forgive me, my Alpha..I seemed to have lost Aurora.” She hesitantly replied. My wolf hissed in anger. It wanted to lash out and smack her on her face. I had to clench my fists to cool it down. Raven was one of my strongest warriors. She was the only one I could trust with the safety of Aurora. My eyes darkened in annoyance.“I entrusted Aurora’s life in your care, but... You failed me, Raven,” I grunted. She looked up to me like a child looking up to her parents with tears in her eyes. “My Alpha-” Raven replied with a sympathetic look. I dismissed her hurriedly as I rushed out. Moments later, Cameron rushed out to meet me. “My Alpha, I’m so sorry, I take full responsibil
AuroraIt had been over a month, and I had yet to have any deep conversation with Darius. It felt like we were worlds apart, yet our rooms were just a few inches away from each other. I grew tired of connecting with him. But it all was to no avail. I resigned myself to wait till he was ready for me. Alpha Darius was widely known not to open up to people easily, so I will bide my time and wait till the perfect moment when he can no longer ignore me.“He’s my second mate, I know he will come to me,” I muttered to myself. I sat down deep in my thoughts till I was tapped on the shoulders. “Are you alright, Aurora?” I turned around to view the tall man in his early twenties standing behind me. He wore a waistcoat, which gave me a dignified look. I squinted my eyes and saw it was Cameron. Darius’s Beta.“Sniff…I’m fine, Ser.” I replied calmly. I was oblivious to how much time had passed for the day. As I sat in the corridors of the palace. Cameron sat down beside me.“You don’t have to be
