Chapter 2

"There...there, Selena you are strong and do not need him." Anna continued comforting me, pulling me in for a comforting hug.

"And you can sleep at my place until you are ready," She offered, being a supportive friend, letting me have somewhere to sleep tonight, on her couch as she shared a small apartment with another roommate already. Still, I did not want to burden her like that by overcrowding her place and not having rent money.

"I have to get a job, I need one," I replied while thanking her too.

"Actually I will jot down, some places that you can try," Anna quickly said to me while taking a piece of paper to jot down some places that usually hired people. She knew that I had spent all my money and savings to come here, only to end up being rejected by that jerk.

I realized that right now I did not even know what I was going to do next. I could not go back home to my father in shame like this. I could not even imagine the look of disappointment that would be on his face if he saw me, after running away like that.

I can admit that I had really acted like a fool.

The only thing left was for me to get a job. Find a place of my own and then hope that I would somehow find a way to continue my studies and wish for a better future.

Using the last money in my pocket, I headed for the internet café to create some CVs and job applications. Leaving Anna to go back to work before her fuzzy boss would notice.

Time seemed to fly so fast. I first applied to different companies online. Then printed some more cv documents to go visit the places that Anna had written down.

Man who knew that looking for a job could be this hard!

More hours passed of me getting rejected by each place or company that I visited. Releasing a tired sigh, I stared up at the last company on my list.

Wolfrik Enterprise. The company's building was very tall, being one of the tallest skyscrapers that I had ever seen. It looked fancy with lavish-looking glass walls.

If places that looked smaller had rejected me, I knew there was no hope for me to even get into a company like this. But it was better to try right?

After entering, I ended up regretting it. I was totally underdressed in my simple dress, while they all wore expensive-looking outfits.

I headed for the reception area.

"Hello, what can I do for you," The receptionist asked while already staring down at me with a sneer.

"Yeah okay, I know that I don't belong here, but you don't have to be such a snob about it!" I almost wanted to say and snap back at her.

But I took a deep breath to calm myself instead.

"Hmm, I don't think we have any position for people like you. We only employ MBA graduates even for admin and assistant roles." She told me without even taking a look at my CV.

I just sighed from having expected this.

But she just had, to add an insult to my injury.

"Why don't you try applying to cleaning agencies or lower places. I am sure being a maid would suit you better or better yet, go be a bar waitress. That is where people like you belong after all."

This made me grab back my cv while glaring at her. She was really asking for it!

Not wanting to end up getting dragged out of this place by security for assault, I turned around in a rush to leave instead.

Only for me to end up colliding with someone while being blinded by my anger.

"I am so sorry," I whispered feeling mortified. I quickly leaned down to help them pick up the file and papers that they had been holding.

"No problem, I too was not looking at where I was going," The man replied with an easy-going smile. So unlike the mean Barbie receptionist who was now giving me a smug disapproving look.

Once done, helping him pick up his stuff, I quickly rushed out of there.

But before overhearing that rude receptionist greeting the man I had collided with by the name 'Cade'.

However once outside I felt depressed.

Maybe rude barbie was right, my certificates and experience meant nothing here. But I was so desperate, for any job actually I just did not care.

I needed something to make a living here.

As I walked lost in my thoughts, it was then I heard my phone ring. After answering, I was elated to hear that one of my online applications had worked.

After being given the address I quickly headed there.

"Sam's butchery," The sign read.

It was a charming-looking butchery, the kind of place I could see myself working at. And oh the sweet, smell of fresh meat! It made me already start to miss farm life back home.

"I am here for the job," As I told the butcher owner Sam this, he stared at me in surprise.

"You are Selena," he asked again and I nodded that I was.

I could see why he was skeptical, because of my small frame and feminine look.

"And you can handle meat?" Sam asked again,

"Yes let me show you," I replied, confidently asking for one of the aprons. If only he knew that I was a country girl at heart and had grown up surrounded by meat and farm animals. That is how my father made a living, selling meat to other shop markets.

As soon as I took my knife, the chopping board, and started working, I could see Sam looking impressed.

"You are hired," he quickly told me and had me start working immediately because he had many orders.

All I could think inwardly was YES I had at least found a job.
