Book 1: Chapter Thirteen

*** Solaris POV ***

My eyes narrowed as I looked at the slight movement in the corner of my eyes. It scurried along the floor and just as it went to run by me, I stepped on it. The crunch was loud but set down the crate I was carrying to inspect the now dead insect. It was a cockroach, full grown. Not only was it not the season for them but Finn and I went to great lengths to make sure this place was bug free. It was one of Noah’s greatest fears and really his only one. Cockroaches were on the top of that list next to spiders and centipedes.

Scanning the hallway, I didn’t find another but when I opened up the door to our cellar, I could hear them. I leaned back and yelled across the bar.

“Finn, we got a problem.”

A few moments later, he poked his head out from the stairs. “A problem? You okay?”

I chuckled. “I’m fine. But Noah won’t be. Can you pull up the feed for the last few days? I need to run through it.”

“Um…sure. Did you want Noah…?”

“Nope. Leave him out of it. Unless you want
