Meanwhile, almost an hour later, at the bank of the river, far from where the accident happened, Caspian was performing resuscitation on Lily who didn’t look like she’d be waking up any time soon.

“Saffron!” he yelled in panic and went back to applying pressure on her chest.

“Please, don’t leave me again, I beg you. Wake up! I can’t continue living without you!”

He pressed and pressed, still nothing but he didn’t give up. His eyes had turned red from crying. Caspian was almost going crazy as he pleaded with her to wake up. After countless struggles, she suddenly coughed out water.

“Saffron?” He watched her slowly open her eyes before he hugged her with so much force that he almost squashed her. Not until she powerlessly patted his back did he let go.

He wiped his tears, “Thank you for coming back to me. I’m glad you didn’t leave me again.” Without warning, he sealed her lips and kissed her desperately for a long time before he pulled away.
