Mark arrived before the ambulance did, his tow truck pulling up at the scene with a blaring screech. He stepped out of it, eyes searching the vicinity for Daniel until he finally found him. “Hey bro, what’s going on?!” He walked over. “Is everything alright?”

Daniel looked over at Mark, sighing deeply. “Can you help me move her around on the back seat, please? The ambulance is taking too long, I’ll take her to the hospital myself.”

“Yeah Bro…no problem.” Mark replied.

As Daniel’s thick, muscular arms reached beneath Naomi’s back to lift her, her eyes flew wide open and on instincts she shoved him away. “What are you doing?!”

Daniel’s eyes quickly drifted down to stare at her, surprise embedded in the brown orbs. “You fainted, I was merely trying to get you around the back seat so I can lay you down in a better position.”

“I fainted...?” she looked around finding that she was indeed laid on the ground, her head in Daniel’s hand. “Oh dear...what happened?”

Mark turned to face her. “It’s probably just as he said, you fainted.”

Naomi’s view switched from Daniel and towards Mark, “And who are you?”

“I’m Daniel’s friend; Mark and we are trying to help you out, okay? How many fingers am I holding up?”

He held up three fingers, and as Naomi was about to answer she heard the siren sound of the ambulance coming towards their location.

The sound drew closer and in no time, the bus was parked in front of her. Doors flew right open and the Paramedics immediately pulled out their stretcher and rushed over to Naomi.

They slowly place her on the stretcher and started asking questions. “What happened? What caused her to faint?”

Daniel explained everything to the Paramedics about the incident, and one of the Paramedics who introduce himself as Paul told them that it was necessary to get her checked up.

“We’ll also need you to make a report at the station.”

Naomi looked up in fright. “That won’t be necessary because I am going to fix her car now and nobody got severely injured.”

“Miss...it doesn’t matter if you are going to fix the car, you need to report the matter still.”

Daniel looked at Naomi, giving her a single reassuring nod. “Don’t worry, I will take care of everything, after which I will pick you up from the hospital”.

With a sad expression on her face, Naomi softly says. “Okay, thanks.”

Her heart was pumping so fast that the Paramedics had to test her blood pressure to find out if it was okay. Her blood pressure was 160/100. “Do you have Hypertension?” The Paul asked her.

“No.” Naomi responded.

“It’s high.” said Paul. “I guess it caused by the accident.”

Naomi who didn’t want to go to hospital sighed. “So do I still need to go to the hospital?”

Paul nodded. “Yes, we have to take you to the hospital.”

As soon as the ambulance moved off, Mark touches his friend hand. “Nice lady.”

Daniel blatantly ignored, but that didn’t stop Mark from continuing. “Who is she?”

“She’s the one doing the case I told you about the other day; Lawyer Noami.”

Mark nodded, she really was a nice young lady, he saw her at her worst and yet still managed to look her best. She was pretty, she seemed feisty too, she was just his type. “If I may ask, can I have her number?”

Daniel’s eyes fixated on him, the gaze in them one of confusion. Did this fool know what he just said? “What did you say?”

“Can I have her number?” Mark repeated again.

“I heard you clearly twice, but I still think you made a mistake. Did your tongue slip or something? You haven’t even gotten a good conversation with her, but yet you’re asking me for her number? Why don’t you ask her in person if you see her again?”

“You sound somewhat irritated, what? Are you dating her?”

“I’m not, instead of being inquisitive, why don’t you start doing what you originally came here to do?”

“I will, I’m already here, aren’t I?”

“I think instead of driving the tow truck, you’re driving an unnecessary conversation, it’s not your tow truck Mark.”

“I know, I know.” Mark tapped Naomi’s car. “This one?”

“No, the BMX 2020.”

As Mark analysed the cars, he noticed that the Black Maybach S-Class Mercedes was damage too. It was damaged severely, but there were scratches, big and obvious ones. “I think you need to take a look at the Mercedes, it needs mechanical attention as well.”

“Are you sure?” Daniel walked over to take a look at the car. “I really can’t deal with another problem like this because Noami already has my hands full…and with her knowing that her car is damages she’s going to make an even bigger fuss.”

“I think someone could drive the Mercedes because it is not damaged that bad. The keys are still inside too. I could tow the BMX and maybe you could drive the Mercedes since you want to protect her asset.”

Daniel stopped what he was doing and ridged his. “That’s the best way out I see.”

As Daniel reached for Naomi’s car door, Stacy stepped forward. “I’ve never driven a Mercedes before, can I drive it?”

Naomi barely slept. Her study light remained on through the early hours, casting long, watchful shadows across case files and legal pads. A cold cup of tea sat untouched by her elbow, its warmth long forgotten. She had run every scan she could think of, traced digital fingerprints, compared backups—and still, nothing pointed to the culprit.Nothing obvious. At 5:42 a.m., her front gate clicked open.Naomi was already at the window.Daniel stood outside the gate, hoodie pulled over his head, hands in his pockets. She hesitated, then buzzed him in. By the time he reached the front porch, she was holding the door open, eyes still rimmed with fatigue.“I couldn’t sleep,” he said.“Join the club,” she replied, stepping aside to let him in.He followed her into the kitchen. She poured two mugs of coffee, black, no sugar—their unspoken agreement from weeks past. For a moment, they just stood there, the silence almost comfortable. Then Naomi spoke.“T

Naomi stared at her phone long after the line went dead. The breeze that once felt warm now clung to her skin like a warning. She blinked, trying to refocus, but the world around her had already started shifting—tilting, cracking at the edges of what she believed was solid ground.Detective Harlan’s words rang in her ears."Someone tampered with the originals."She closed her eyes, gripping the railing beside the back steps. Her breath came shallow, the weight of the moment crashing down like a verdict.“Naomi?”Grace was at her side, eyes narrowing the instant she saw Naomi’s face.“What happened?”Naomi opened her mouth, then shook her head. “Not here. Not now.”Grace nodded, sensing the depth of the moment. “Come on,” she said, guiding her inside and up to Naomi’s study—her private space, where chaos had no permission to intrude. As soon as the door clicked shut, Naomi turned and paced. “The evidence—Daniel’s alibi, his timestamps, security camera pulls—they were tampered with.”Gr

Naomi felt the air shift as Daniel walked into the backyard, his presence pulling invisible strings that adjusted everyone’s posture and tone. Even the breeze felt different. Mark handed Daniel a plate, his smile tight. “Didn’t think we’d see you today.” Daniel accepted it without a blink. “Didn’t think so either. Life’s unpredictable like that.” Mark gave a short laugh, but it lacked warmth. “Well, hope you brought an appetite.” Naomi stepped between them before the tension could sharpen. “Daniel, why don’t you sit with Grace? I’ll get you something to drink.” Daniel’s eyes followed hers to the table, where Grace was already waving him over like an old friend. He gave Naomi a subtle look—one that said thank you—before walking off. As Naomi turned back toward the kitchen, Mark followed her. “So, you knew he was coming?”

Naomi didn’t expect it—the way his voice dipped lower when he spoke to her, or how the air between them thickened every time they made eye contact. There were too many people around, too many reasons not to look too long. But Daniel… he wasn’t playing by the rules today. “Can we talk?” he murmured, just loud enough for her to hear. Naomi blinked, heart skipping. “Right now?” He nodded, already moving toward the side path that led to the garden. Without thinking, she followed. The second they turned the corner, the mask he wore outside slipped. “You didn’t call,” she said first, arms crossed. “You had me thinking—” “I know,” he cut in, stepping closer. “I’m sorry. Things got messy with the hospital, my mom… I didn’t know how to talk without breaking down.” Naomi’s jaw clenched, but her eyes softened. “You could’ve still tried.” “I’m trying now,” he said, voice low, intense. “And I didn’t come here for sympathy.” She met his gaze, defiant. “Then why did you come?” Daniel looke

Naomi’s hand trembled slightly as she placed the phone back into her pocket. She didn’t realize how long she stood there until Grace gave her a slight nudge.“Naomi, you okay?”“I don’t know. I just... I feel so useless right now. Daniel’s going through it, and here I am hosting some half-baked party I don’t even care about.”Grace shook her head gently. “You’re not useless. You’ve done more for him than anyone else probably has. But right now, he’s where he needs to be, and so are you. Don’t let guilt mess up the good you’re trying to do.”Naomi sat back down, letting out a long sigh. “I didn’t even want to do this today. But I thought… maybe if I kept busy, I wouldn’t feel so helpless.”Grace pulled a chair beside her. “Then let’s make the best of it. Eat, smile, and breathe. You’re allowed to live too, Naomi.”Before Naomi could respond, the scent of sizzling meat wafted through the air. Mark was by the grill now, apron half-tied and humming a tune like he
