39. The Betrayal

"Why are you looking at her like that, Dorothy?" Jody Gardner asked as he was suddenly behind her.

Dorothy turned round and faced her lover, "Just wondering. By the way, I haven't had a chance to congratulate you on your victory yet."

Jody Gardner smiled even though his mind was filled with suspicion. He had clearly seen the way his lover stared in confusion at the War Advisor.

"It's good to have you back here. Is everything sorted out?" Jody asked.

Dorothy nodded, "Of course. But, it's getting more and more tiring by the day. Do you think I should just quit working at the palace?"

"What? Quit?"

"Yes. I'm so tired of doing all this routine. But, how ... life also requires money so I think I should refrain more from staying here until I have enough money," Dorothy said.

Jody Gardner said, "Wait a minute. Why are you bothering to think about the economy? There's me, Dorothy."

"You do. Of course, but how could I bother you all the time?" Dorothy said so honestly.
