Benton looked at the box of supplies everyone had gathered and dropped off in his office over the past two hours. It had grown to the point it was overfilling. He grabbed a trolly to help him get everything on it so he could wheel it out to his car. He was eternally grateful that no one had asked any questions of him. They seemed to not care at the fact he wanted these items or the fact there was a baby, let alone a newborn baby, in his office. He had fashioned a wrap to be able to hold the baby and have use of his hands.
He had blankets wrapped around the newborn. Benton went out to his car and loaded up the backseat with the box with all the supplies. He looked at everything that was there and then down to the infant. That was the one thing he didn’t have. A car seat. Though he didn’t plan for an accident, he knew that he wouldn’t feel comfortable driving with a newborn without the proper seat for it. He wasn't sure how he was going to get one at this time of night.
That was when one of the ones he called his minions walked up next to him. “I thought I would let you borrow this.” He stated as he looked at Jonathon. “I won’t need it for a couple of days. It will allow you to get one for yourself.”
“Thank you,” Benton started as he looked at the man before him. “I was just thinking about that.”
“I know you haven’t said who that is or where its mother is, but by the way you are acting, I have an idea. The nurses upstairs were talking about a woman they had to kick out after she had an emergency c-section. Apparently, there was a problem with the billing and who would take care of it. That doesn’t matter. They were ordered by the director of the hospital to get her out on the street and not to give her anything.”
“Really?” Benton asked, somewhat surprised by that reaction. Then he thought about the little weasel of a man that ran the hospital. Everything was a bottom line for him, and he cared nothing for human life. Somehow the reaction he had to the girl for whatever reason. Didn’t surprise him. He was starting to really hate this place.
“Yeah.” He replied. “The nurses didn’t ask any questions either. It isn’t normal for us to be upstairs and gathering anything. They would actually turn their backs so we could get what we wanted, and they wouldn’t see. It was like they had their own agenda.”
“They probably wanted to help, but they couldn’t,” Benton said.
“I know, doc. Just take care of the girl. From what I heard, she has gone through a lot today. Also, just a word that I overheard. The stepmother that she came in with might have done something to her to cause this.” The man said as he looked at the doctor who was cradling the baby. They walked back into the building and down the stairs to the basement.
The man parted ways with Benton in the main hallway. He continued towards the back of the hallway, where no one ever went. He rounded the corner to the room he placed her in to find her nearly hanging off the wheelchair. He looked at her, and then he helped get her into the seat a little better.
That was when he really looked her over. Though she was asleep, she was a beauty. Though she was young and he didn’t know how young, he had to say she was an older teenager. He was hoping that she was at least of legal age. Though right now, he didn’t care. He started to walk, pushing the wheelchair slowly out the door. He had wrapped a blanket over her shoulders, knowing that she might not feel it, but it was cold, and he didn’t want her to get sick on top of everything else.
As he neared the car, he unlocked the car, and then he placed the brake on for the wheelchair. He lifted the baby out of the carrier he had fashioned out the blankets and then placed him in the car seat and fastened the straps around the baby. He was careful to tuck the blankets around the baby. He had seen many people do it around him though he hoped he was doing it right now.
That was when there was a sound from in back of him. He turned and looked and saw that Jade was now awake. Though she was looking around and didn’t know what was going on. He hoped that he wouldn’t have to tell her everything again as he smiled at her. “Where are we?” she asked softly as her eyes were trying to focus on him.
“The parking lot.” He chuckled. “I am getting the baby ready in the car seat. Then I will help you get up and in the car.”
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“To my house.” He said as he looked at her. “You need somewhere to go, and right now, that is your best option. Remember, I am a doctor. You are going to need one around.”
“Okay.” She said as she closed her eyes again.
“Jade, I need you to stay with me.” He said as he chuckled and then moved to get her in the car. That was not as easy as he thought it would be. He had to basically lift her without stretching her incision. She should have never been placed in the wheelchair and left in the front of the hospital in the first place. After getting her in the car, he walked around the car and then got in to begin to drive back to his townhouse.
His life just got a lot more complicated. What had been a boring and slow night in the department had turned into something that he knew was going to change his life. He smiled to himself as he thought about having two more people in his townhouse to share his space with.
As they neared the townhouse, she was awake again. Though she had wide eyes, she didn’t say anything. It wasn't until they pulled into the driveway for the house and then into his garage that she looked at him. “What are your plans for me?” Jade asked.“To get you on your feet in a little while,” Benton said as he looked at her. “Jade, I know that you have had a lot thrown at you in the past few hours. I am sure that you have all the horror stories going through your mind right now as well. I want you to know that I will do what I can to help you right now. You need to be in a hospital, but after what I heard, I doubt any in this area won't do the same to you and throw you out. I might not have a hospital, but I am a doctor. I can help you heal and then figure out what comes next. That is all I want to do. I don’t have all that much, but you are welcome here. I don't think that you have many other choices.&
When he had finally woke up the next day, he was glad that he had the day off. He knew that he had a bunch of stuff to do and get for the baby. It wasn't like he had actually planned on any of those, so he didn't have plans for the day that he had to cancel or anything. It was just he was never supposed to be going to the store to buy a bunch of things for a baby. At this point, he didn't really care what he had to spend to make sure that the baby was taken care of for the moment. That was an easy thing to do. Luckily newborns sleep most of the time, and they only need to be changed and fed.“Good morning Jade,” he said as he walked out of the room and looked at her as she was sitting comfortably on the couch. He knew that everything was rough for her, and she was trying to take care of herself. He had left the bag of supplies that she might need for the night and everything else by her, and it looked like she had gone through and chang
“My mother left when I was a few months old,” Jade said as she looked at him, he could see in her eyes the pain of thinking about it. “I was passed around to different family members I was finally given back to my father. Since I was about a year old, he was the one who who is there. So when he who is getting married again a few years ago, I was really excited that my dad finally gave me a mother. Unfortunately, my stepmother was not what anyone had it actually plan for. She began taking over everything in the house in a way that even my father wasn't exactly pleased with, but she also came from money as well. He needed the capital for his newest business. He does a lot of business overseas, and she was basically an heiress to one of them. That's how they met.”“I don't want to upset you with these questions. I just need to know what's going on around you so I can help you better.” Jonathan said as the baby started to make a l
Jonathan let Jay dressed for the past few hours while he went to the store and got a bunch of baby things, including clothes and some clothes for her as well. He also got a playpen so they could actually have a good place for the baby to sleep. It was higher as well, so it would make things easier for her to be able to reach over from the couch. He had also gotten a few other over-the-counter medical supplies that he was hoping were going to help him make sure that she healed quickly and safely. There were a lot of things that he was trying to do, but he knew that he had to do that at least. He also loaded up the car with a bunch of food and things that he knew that she would probably need to eat. However, they had to be simple enough that he could actually cook them. That was one of the big things for him. He normally had simple food. And by simple food, he meant things that he ordered. He was in a very good cook, but he was willing to try to make quite a few t
“I don't think that I can actually leave for a little girl. I thought that's what you were saying last night.” Jade said she looked at him. She wasn't trying to be difficult. She was just trying to make sure that she understood him from the night before. Everything hurt so bad . that she was still trying to figure out what was real and what was induced by the pain.“You can go under physician assistance.” he said with a chuckle as he looked at her. “we have the new car seat, so we don't have to worry about the little guy. Have you actually thought of a name for him?”“he was going to have his father's name, but at this point, I think it's kind of ridiculous to do he's not here to enjoy his son, and there really isn't any real tie between them as it is I'll never have things that were plan for.” She said she looked at him, “I really hadn't even really thought about a different type of name
Jade could feel the anger starting to build up in her. There was just so much that was going on around her that she couldn't actually feel anything but anger. It was an overwhelming wave that, when he walked in, he actually could feel coming off of her.“what's going on in why did things change so quickly?” Jonathan asked as he looked at her knowing that women in their postpartum could easily switch emotions very quickly. He was already hoping that that was not the case here and that she was not in any real distress. However, the entire situation that's what was completely distressing. It was easy for her to go through a lot of emotions when she was thinking about her situation. She had not only been abandoned by her father, but she had been kicked out of a hospital with a newborn baby that she wasn't equipped to take care of. That was a lot to deal with, especially when she didn't have any way of doing anything I'm getting anywhere saf
He went ahead and checked her incision. And he also gave her the over-the-counter cream that he had bought to keep infection away. He was more worried about her going into some kind of sepsis. No, right now, she seemed to be in good spirits. He was going to keep an eye on her temperature and also give her pain relievers. Luckily the pain relievers that the nurse had left out for his people to take were there. He didn't want to give her too many of them even though she probably needed them only because she was breastfeeding. That was probably one of the reasons why the baby was slightly lethargic because she had been taking the pain relievers the day before while she was both in surgery and after. He needed to actually see her medical chart to understand exactly what they did. The incision that she had was not one of the normal ones. He wanted to be able to advise her and some simple things. But he needed to actually pull that up, and right now, he
After she was done getting ready, he helped her get to the car. Then he went and got the infant and put him in the car seat, and then loaded him up into the car as well. It had taken a little maneuvering, but he had managed to get the base of the car seat in the car, and it was studied. He was actually quite happy with himself. For a little while, it had actually seemed like he wasn't going to be able to get the car seat in strapped properly. And then he would have felt like a complete fool because he was a board-certified physician, but he couldn't manage to get a car seat in.He got a pillow for her back so she would be propped up in a good position, and also, he had managed to get her a padded footstool dressed as well that could go in. He was trying to make sure that she was in a really good position so she wouldn't rupture anything. “at some point, I'm going to call one of my friends to go over everything that I was planning for you.
