Jade’s wide eyes were enough to draw a chuckle from Benton as he watched her thinking. “The Morgue?” she asked as she looked around to all the walls.

“Well, you are at the back end of the morgue. This is a storage room. It is the safest place for you right now. Now I will be back in a little bit with something for your pain. Try and relax if you can. Just no, there will be no one around to bother you. If something happens and you need help, just scream. I won’t be that far away.” Benton said as he walked out of the room.

He walked down the walk, and she could hear his footstep as they got lighter and lighter. Jade was looking around at the walls and the room itself. It wasn't anything like the rest of the hospital. She didn’t even know this place was here. Thinking back to the times she had volunteered at the hospital years prior. There was nothing on the plans she had been given to help her get around.

She sighed and looked at her son, who was beginning to cry. “I know.” She said to him. “This is not how I wanted to welcome you to the world. I don’t even know what happened, really.”

The baby stopped making noise as she talked softly to him. “I didn’t even get to name you. I was going to call you Devin. That was your real father's name. He isn’t with us anymore. The accident was so quick. I never had the chance to tell him about you. Now you are left with only me, as sad as that is.” Jade continued talking to the baby.

She had enough time to try and think through all of what had happened. It was nothing like she had heard before. She didn’t know a hospital could throw you out so quickly after having a c-section or how quickly someone could cancel the health insurance on another person. She had so many questions and nothing to help answer them.

Time was going by slowly. She had no idea if she had dozed off or not. The baby was propped in her arms, though, and he was rooting to find a breast to feed him. Jade was still in her hospital gown, so lowering one side was easy to do. She had planned to bottle feed the baby, but right now, there was no other option. She would have to do what was best for him. That was all she could think of right now. The baby that in her arms.

The baby was finally fed, and she was becoming more exhausted. The toll of the day was showing itself in pain she was feeling. Everything hurt again.

It was almost like he had known that she was starting to hurt again. Benton walked in carrying a cup of multi-colored pills for her to take. She didn’t want to take them without him explaining what they were and what they could do to her. However, the waves of pain were too much. She had to have some relief.

She took the cup and swallowed the medicine. “Trust me, those were not easy to get.” He chuckled as she did. “People were asking a few too many questions as to why I needed them at all.”

“Why?” she asked through one of the waves of the stabbing in her abdomen.

“I am a pathologist.” He said as he began to laugh slightly. “It isn’t like my patients need any medicine.”

“Oh.” She said. She would have thought of that herself if the pain stopped.

“I will find a way to get some more in a bit for you to have later. The pain will be there for a few days to a couple of weeks, but you can control that with over-the-counter pain meds. This is because it is brand new. I also have a box of supplies that is growing by the minute with the help of some of my minions.” Benton said.

“Minions?” she asked as she felt lightheaded. The sound of his voice was soothing, but she was beginning to feel like she was going to fall asleep. She didn’t know if it was the medicine or the fact she was so tired.

“The people who work for me.” He said as he leaned forward and took the baby out of her arms. “I don’t want you to drop him. I will find something for this little guy to lay in and be safe. Jade, you need to rest. Did he eat yet?” Benton asked as he looked at her as her eyelids were drooping. She was going under quickly.

“He did.” she managed to force out. It felt like everything was heavy around her, including the air. She slumped over in the wheelchair. Benton looked at her and knew the medicine had started to work. She would rest for a few hours.

“Well, I guess it is just us two for a little while. I guess you can come to my office for a little bit while I find something to hold you.” Benton said as he moved through the hallway carrying the baby like there was nothing abnormal with the sight of a baby with him. “Your mother didn’t tell me what your name is. I guess I will have to call you buddy until I know for sure.”

Benton found an empty isolette that was wiped down in his office and knew his minions were glad to be on this mission for him. They thought they were playing a game. As long as they got all the items he would need to be able to set her up somewhere, it would work out.

The where he was going to set her up was becoming plainer to see for him. she was going to need help. He had space in his townhouse for the two of them. He would have to take care of her more, but he was sure they could come to an arraignment of some sort. She could keep the house clean after she recovered or something like that. It wasn't going to be all that bad in the end.
