Meet The Cutie

Kyle had never even enjoyed watching a game so much when he was alive. To think

for years he had worshipped sports that never came close to this action.

“OK so this is like a very extreme version of chess where it’s mixed with a bit of

good-old contact sport?” Kyle asked Jake as they gobbled through their fifth pizza.

“Pretty much only our contact involves abilities few humans have. All of us can do

impressive things but these guys eat and sleep combat. It’s also not about strength

either you see chess is a thinking game and you have to know your mind and the one

your against.” Jake filled in as he thought of when he had played but the country took

up more and more of his free time as he grew up. “It works like chess the front

players move first and they protect their captain just like the king. They communicate

via radio and make moves as a team. Players get their powers from the elements. You

know what I mean water, fire, air, earth and now and then metal. They can use those

things to win a play and injury is permitted but not a fatality or even doing something

that may lead to a fatality.”

“Well that pretty much explains it then.” Was that Kyle said in reply to Jake’s long

explanation but Jake hadn’t even heard a single word from Kyle, usually humans

burst with emotion. One of the crowd had been chosen and it wasn’t a player that hurt

the eyes either. She had striking black hair that had highlights that were almost white.

Jake squinted to get a closer look and could make out that she had green or blue eyes.

Not usually the type he went for but she was most definitely a stunning women. Now

to see what type of warrior she could be, if any type at all.

“Ok don’t worry to much the crowd players are guests on the board and are treated as

such. No harm will come to you so just have fun win or lose.” Garth explained over

Natasha's radio. He seemed rather nice but nothing would calm her nerves. She felt

millions and millions of eyes on her and couldn’t hear herself think over the roar of

the crowd. She had always been the invisible one and had always wondered what it

would be like to get noticed, This wasn’t just for fun now, now it was to make her

mark somewhere just once. “Natasha do you know anything about your powers yet.”

Garth spoke into her headset for the first time making her jump.

“Nothing I don’t even know what I am yet.” Natasha said as it dawned on her that she

was basically defenceless here.

“Its ok Natasha, tell me how quickly do you get angry?”

“Rather slowly actually I don’t get angry that often, why do you ask?” She said with a frown. These people never made sense to her.“OK play is going to resume soon what ticks you off more then anything. If we can

know that we can get a grip on your powers and their elemental source.” The siren

went off announcing that the games were to continue. Natasha felt panic wash over her as

though somebody had thrown an ice-cold bucket of water over her.

“Well being shoved into situations like this at least gets me irritated.” Natasha replied

before one of the opponents from the other team caught her eye. It was a girl who

looked about Natasha's age and although it was normal to hate the apposing team, this

girl had hate pouring from every fibre of her being and it was being directed at her.

The first move was still on the line and the reds were very bad losers.

“Natasha it would seem you have interest from the other team.” Garth spoke through the

radio again. “Rules say we put women against each other but be careful with this one.

It’s impossible to win against her so just try not to get hurt.

“She does seem rather angry.” Natasha replied trying to seem more at ease then she really

was,

“Her name is Sarah complete psycho but you are just here for fun so she won’t kill

you today.”

“Kill me but I thought you weren’t allowed to kill in these games!” Natasha nearly

shrieked as she felt ready to make a run for it.

“Well, well someone did listen to the rules after.”

“That’s not funny I’m scared to death and you think I’m a joke just because I’m new.”

Natasha removed the earpiece and stood ready. She told herself she couldn’t do it most of

her life she wasn’t going to let someone else have the job.

Garth hadn’t meant to insult Natasha but it was his job to win this and he had to find a

way she could help. At least he had a good idea of how to rile her up without having

to upset her too much. It just took a whisper of doubt and she was ready to prove

anyone wrong. He knew what it was like to always feel like you had to prove

yourself.

The announcement went off that the first move had been ruled a disqualification for

the reds for using deadly force. The players and fans were up in arms. It started to

look like the tuck shop at school when it ran out of sweets, there would be a riot soon

if something wasn’t done. The bright lights focused on Natasha as she was given a new

set of earphones by the referee.

“Here you go you’re on.” He said as he walked back to his place on the sides. Natasha

didn’t feel like speaking to anybody but put them on anyway.

“Hey there warrior or should I say worrier?” It was Seth on the radio this time.

“I’m not too worried it’s just a game.”

“Listen Sam the next play is going to you, Garth didn’t mean to be rude he has to get you angry or you won’t defend yourself.” Seth tried to explain.

“I don’t get it what do you mean Seth?”

“There isn’t much time step forward to the next square, and Natasha?”

“Yes?”

“Don’t be afraid to get angry, once that takes over you have a chance of winning. I

have to put you through to Garth he knows about game play but I will be listening and

watching. Go get them ‘New Girl’.” And with that Seth had gone and Garth was

leading her into the only competition she had ever taken part. Natasha stepped forward

and so did the other girl.

“Sarah, try to be kind it’s just a crowd member.” Richard spoke to his team-mate

knowing full well she would destroy any opponent even if winning didn’t matter.

“Don’t worry I’ll get rid of her quickly so we can carry on with the real players. Why

did it have to be a girl now I have to put up with her?” Sarah said with her usual lack

of good humour and charm. Sarah took her stance for her move; the ‘Snow-Angel’

was one of the crowd pleasing moves so it would look good and win the move. Natasha

didn’t even see her move but she started to feel very cold, when she looked down she

saw that she was covered in ice and snow and felt like a piece of frozen meat.

The crowd loved it and cheered knowing nobody would want to stick around after

frost-bite. What Sarah and the crowd didn’t know was that Natasha had a temper even she

wasn’t aware of. Natasha looked around at those pointing fingers and laughing and she

felt like she was back in school. She would rather die then be the big joke again; this

wasn’t going to end like this.

“Garth are you there?” Natasha asked into her microphone.

“I’m here it’s OK you did very well, I will get someone to get you out of there.”

“No you wont I’m getting her back for that.” Natasha said trying not to clench her teeth.

“Natasha you don’t have any powers yet. What are you going to do? She hit you with

something soft and I’m afraid you won’t be so lucky next time.” Garth said as he

made his way to the ground floor from the tower he had been watching from.

“Garth you said I should get angry right? Well being a human ice-cream tends to tick

me off very, very much. Garth wanted to tell her to hang on but something

unexpected had happened; Natasha had grown a spine.

“Seth can you hear me.” Garth said to see if Seth could hear him.

“Got you loud and clear. What’s going on with Natasha? Perhaps it’s time I should get

her outta here.” Seth replied as he realised it maybe wasn’t a good idea to have just lether in there without knowing anything about their world yet“Leave her it’s important to her to stand up for herself but don’t lose sight of her for a

second. If her life is in danger step in.” Seth just nodded knowing Garth could see him

from where he was. He didn’t agree with this one bit, not even one tiny little bit. If

one of the Reds just looked at her in a way that would hurt her feelings, he would rip

their heads off.

Natasha felt hate course through every fibre of her. She found it hard to breath but didn’t

want to calm down. She had always been told to “Calm down.” “Watch your temper.”

Well now she had been asked to get angry. This time even if she made a complete

fool of herself, she would fight back. Natasha saw the hunting knife that was strapped to a

player on her team and asked to borrow it. She had no idea what she wanted it for, her

body wanted to listen to her mind as much as she wanted to listen to Garth or even

Seth. Natasha felt as though her whole body was humming and then she went cold. “The

ice must have gotten to her more then she had realised. She became so cold that it

burned her to the bone. Her heart seemed to fight for every beat as ice flowed in her

veins. Natasha struggled to pick her arms up, her legs felt as though her weight had just

increased ten fold. Sarah started to make a move towards her, Natasha had to make a

move or she was toast. She took the knife and placed it between her teeth with the

blade facing outwards. She had no idea what she was going to do but the only thing

she could feel was her face and feet. Natasha leapt forward towards Sarah.

Sarah was surprised to realise she moved very fast without the use of her arms. They

hung by her sides and hadn’t done anything. When Natasha moved back to her place on

the board, she looked over to Sarah who was now on her knees. The crowd fell silent

as Sarah stared at Natasha with shock and obvious pain as she sank down. Sarah had a

large gash on her right shoulder and on her left thigh as well as several small cuts all

over her. Natasha had only moved forward for a second and had managed to do so much

damage and that with her hands almost literally tied behind her back.

Seth ran forward to Natasha and lifted her onto his shoulder as they were awarded yet

another move.

“How did you do that? There aren’t many people who have defeated Sarah never

mind someone as brand new to it!” Seth said happy she hadn’t gotten hurt at all.

“I don’t have a clue how but she got me really good I’m still ice cold.” Natasha said

finding it difficult to stop smiling.

“What do you mean you’re still cold?” Seth asked as they walked towards their seats

in the crowd.

“I couldn’t feel most of my body after that move of Sarah’s.” Natasha said not thinking

so much of it now that she had won and her arms were starting to function again. Seth

wasn’t so relaxed. It wasn’t normal for that to happen at it was a weak move designed

to scare people off not damage them, unless Sarah was just being mean as she could

be sometimes.

“Kyle let’s go I have to meet this girl. I can’t believe I was here to see that.” Jake said

as he ran to the aisle at the end of the seats and then down to the field with the board.“What’s the big deal I mean it was very cool but I don’t get why people are so

hysterical.” Kyle said not very impressed with what had happened.

“A crowd member hasn’t won a move ever although there is rumour that it happened

about a thousand or so years ago.” Seth added as he came over to greet his friend.

Jake turned round and made as though he was going to punch Seth and then gave him

a brief hug. The two had met years ago when Jake’s father King Edward had visited

The Police station to see that it was running smoothly. Jake had been about fifteen and

had found the visit very boring. He had walked around the whole station and had

found Seth in the evidence room going through the boxes. As he had entered the room

Jake had given Seth a fright and had nearly shot Jake with the gun he had just found.

“Who the hell are you and what you doing here?” Seth had asked Jake.

“My dad The King has come to see if your dad is doing his job, I’m Prince Alekai

Jakesworth but you can call me Jake. Take that gun off me before I have you

arrested.” Jake had replied very angry to be treated as he had been.

“Fine you spoilt brat.” Was Seth said as he put the gun where he had found it? “So

must be nice to boss people around and get what you want the time.”

“Not really.” Jake had said as he turned to leave.

“Wait Highness, It’s not that much fun to be The Police Chiefs son. Bet everyone

expects you to be just like your dad and to take over and do them proud too.” Seth had

added to make Jake stay. He didn’t get a lot of chance to talk to kids his age and if he

did, he was treated differently.

“Something like that. Everyone thinks I have it easy like I sit around day and just get

served. I haven’t just been a kid in years. Training to be King is so stupid.” Jake had

replied surprised that someone actually got it. After that day the two had always found

a way to break away from their families to just be two normal kids, as normal as two

superhuman kids could be.

“So Seth, where did you find your newest rookie? You must be very proud of

yourself.” Jake asked as Kyle walked around nearby obviously bored with the

conversation. Seth introduced Sam to Jake and a few important people from the

games. The game had been postponed till tomorrow and the gold team players and

fans were in the mood for a party. Seth loved his friend like a brother but he hated

introducing any girls to him. Seth was just as handsome as Jake, only Seth wasn’t a

royal and somehow that made you less in a girl’s eyes.

“This is Natasha Jordan, just started and already one of our finest. Natasha this is our

Prince but we call him Jake since he gets a lot of American television he changed to

Jake for short” Jake smiled and expected the usual fascination to kick in.

“Pleased to meet you, Jake. Does this place have any food?” She asked Seth all in one

sentence Seth smiled and led Natasha off to one of the many food stands nearby. He was going to enjoy introducing her to their foods.
