We ran a few more laps around the forest. Lyriel caught a rabbit which we cleaned and roasted. I had changed into a set of cloth that Kai brought me. We sat around a small fire, listening to the crackling sound of the burning wood and smelling the aroma of roasted rabbit. Kai told me about school. His art classes, the popular alphas in the academy… I couldn't wait to go to college, then we'll be neighbors. The Alpha academy was right next to the Luna academy. Though they were named like this, beta bloods were also allowed in the alpha academy. My adopted parents weren't sure what blood my sister and I had, but the fact that we were their daughters could get us literally anywhere in the pack. After a few minutes of chatting and eating, we went back to Kai's house where I insisted he took a hot bath to dispel some of the cold. Soon, we were in his car headed to the pack house. My eyes followed the trees as they ran along the side of the road. The inside of the car was cold, I reached out and turned on the heater. “Don't catch a cold” I said to Kai He only nodded and smiled softly, he knew better than to not listen to me. I noticed his fingers tightened on the steering wheel, the faint tremors in them. It always started like this. Small things most people wouldn't notice. The coughs, the cold hands, the way he avoided the moon, the closer the full moon got. My chest tightened. “You're thinking again” Kai muttered. “I'm always thinking” “Yeah, but this is the guilty kind” I turned to him, but didn't say a word. I couldn't. The rest of the car ride was silent with only the occasional sound of kai's cough. I glanced at him in worry. If I had my way, I would take all his pain, but I couldn't. Aradia, the witch, still hadn't reached out to me and the full moon was in two days. “I'll be fine.” Kai assured I didn't respond, we both knew there was nothing fine here. Soon the car came to a halt in front of the pack house. I didn't want to be here, but the rules were clear “No sleeping out”. But after tomorrow, I'll be able to do whatever I want. “Goodnight Kai, I'll see you tomorrow” I waved He waved back and the car zoomed off. I had barely walked a few steps when a scent— no, three scents came crashing into me at once. My throat tightened, heart filled with dread. “Please no,” I prayed to no one in particular. But when three figures burst out of the door, eyes fixed on me. I knew my prayers didn't reach anyone or rather it wasn't answered, like all of my prayers. Three eyes stared at me, each face with a different expression, but trust me none of them felt good. Their scents wrapped around me like invincible chains. My wolf stirred violently inside me. “Mate” she growled “No” I snapped back. Not after what they did. “Mate” The triplets echoed, their eyes still fixed on me. I could see the excitement in them. Hearing that word, my stomach flipped, my knees weakened from instinct fighting trauma. Lyriel howled inside my head. “Mate. Ours” “No,” I whispered again, shaking my head. At that point, I didn't know any other word. The bond pulled at my chest like hooks dragging me towards them. My body betrayed me leaning forward even as my my mind screamed not to. The bond was too strong. A mate bond with an alpha was really strong, not to talk of three alphas. I looked up at the sky. Was the moon goddess playing a trick on me?. Tears gathered in my eyes. Tears that I've sworn to never shed. Suddenly the night disappeared, and all I could see was endless snow. I could feel the cold on my back, my wrists pinned. Hands crawling everywhere… I could still hear them laughing. Those lewd words… My stomach twisted violently. I remembered the cold, the blood, the growl, the wolf and how everything went red. I swayed on my feet, my hand going to my chest and I did the only thing I knew to do at that moment. The only thing that could stop me from betraying myself. “I Lianne Noctis reject you Alpha Darius, Cassius and Lucian Ravencrest as my mate and Alpha” Three alpha auras crashed into me at once. My knees weakened, my heart trembled…I could literally taste iron on my tongue. I had just rejected three Alphas. That was rash, I knew. I can't stand them being my mates for a second longer. But there was something I overlooked, and that's… “We don't accept your rejection” Darius, the eldest boomed “ You don't get to reject us” Blood dripped down my jaw as my eyes darkened. “You are ours, Lianne” Cassius added. I could feel my vision blurring. I could see the hurt in Lucian's eyes. Or maybe my vision was going bad, the last triplet was indeed the most sensitive of them. But why would he be hurt at my rejection. They were demons. They didn't feel hurt. Before I reached the ground, I felt one grab my wrist and I collided with a hard chest. Another held my waist from behind, one held my hand and they nuzzled my neck. Their noses brushed the collar of my coat. The scent of forest after rain filled the air. Kai. Three growls shook the ground. I knew they could smell him. Especially after that run. “Because of him?” one of them said. That tone…it was Lucian. Their grip tightened around me instantly, before the world went black, someone whispered. “Another male doesn't change anything” the voice was cold. Darius, the cocky bast*rd. Then the world went quiet.I couldn’t stop thinking about the blood. It sat at the back of my mind all morning, no matter what I tried to do. Even when I called Kai.“How are you feeling?” I asked, pressing the phone closer to my ear as I paced my room.“A lot better than I've felt in years.” he said.“I shouldn't have left like that.” There was a small pause, then a soft chuckle. “You worry too much.”I sat on my reading table.I closed my eyes for a second. I wanted to tell him about the blood. About what happened last night. But the words didn’t come out.Everything I had read—everything I knew about wolves like that…weren’t normal. They were always hunted and feared. They brought trouble. “I’ll come see you later,” I said instead.“Alright.”We stayed on the call a few seconds longer before I hung up.I stared at my phone. Then at my drawer. My chest tightened again. I couldn't even draw another blood until next month. What if Kai relapses before then. According to the books I've read. The blood can only
DariusThe scent hit me before I even stepped inside.Blood. Not just any blood. Lianne’s.I paused at the door. My hand still on the handle. Why would there be blood in her room? My jaw tightened as I pushed the door open. The room was empty. But the scent was fresh and faint.I stepped in slowly, closing the door behind me.My eyes scanned the space. Nothing looked out of place. It didn't seem like she was in trouble.I followed the scent until I stopped in front of her closet. I pulled the drawer open and there it was.A small container with dark red blood in it. My chest tightened slightly. Why would she keep her blood? My mind raced quickly. There was another scent that I couldn't describe. It wasn’t just blood. There was something else in it. I picked it up.The moment I did, my wolf reacted with something I couldn't name. My grip tightened around the container.Could this be related to the library. It was strange that she suddenly went there and came back to store blood in a c
LianneI didn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw it again. The glow and the way Kai just stopped hurting.By morning, my head was pounding. I got up anyway. Staying in that room wasn’t going to help.I took a shower and prepared to go to my part time job. It wasn't my shift yet but I wanted to speak to my boss first and maybe take some more time off.The moment I opened the door, I knew I wasn’t alone. Darius was leaning against the wall, arms crossed.Cassius stood a few steps away, pacing like he hadn’t slept either.Lucian was by the window. Watching me.“You didn’t sleep,” Lucian said.I walked past them. “Neither did you.”“No one sleeps when their mate disappears for so many hours and come back looking like a mess.” Cassius muttered.I ignored that.“Where are you going?” Darius asked.I didn’t stop walking. “Out.”Footsteps followed immediately. I sighed.“I’m going to the library,” I said, turning slightly. “Not running away.” I didn't want them to know that I wanted
LianneThe moment my feet hit the ground, I didn’t stop.Cold air rushed past me as I ran deeper into the trees. I didn’t look back. I didn’t want to.“Found you.”My steps froze. I turned slowly.Lysa stood a few steps behind me, arms crossed, like she had been waiting all along. Her lips curved into a small smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes.“I knew it,” she said, tilting her head. “You were never the obedient type.”I said nothing. My chest was still tight from earlier. From everything.“What do you want, Lysa?” I asked. She walked closer, her boots crunching lightly against the ground. “Relax. I’m not here to drag you back.”I didn’t believe her for a second.“You think I don’t understand?” she continued. “Being forced into a mate bond like that… especially with them.”Something in her tone felt weird.“I get it,” she said softly. “It’s not something you can just accept overnight.”I frowned slightly, studying her face. “Since when do you care?”She shrugged. “Since always. Kaelion Once I was sure that she was fine, I dragged my broken body back to my villa.Something was off. I could feel it. Usually my joints didn't hurt so bad until few hours to the full moon.I sat on the couch, trying to ignore it, but the feeling in my body wouldn’t go away. I coughed into my fist and pulled my hand away, my eyes falling on the blood sitting on my palm.I sighed and wiped it on my shirt. Leaning back into the couch, I closed my eyes but then my fingers twitched. At first, it was just uncomfortable. Then it became more intense. It spread through my hand so fast it made me suck in a sharp breath. My fingers started bending, slowly, like something inside them was forcing them out of place.“No… no…” I whispered.Another crack followed, louder. I grabbed the edge of the couch, trying to steady myself, but it didn’t help. The pain climbed up my wrist and into my arm. It felt like my bones were shifting under my skin, like they were trying to become something else.A s
Lianne I didn’t know how long I had been asleep. Or what even happened. But when I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw made my chest tighten. The triplets. All three of them were standing around my bed. Watching me.One of them moved closer. His hand lifted, like he wanted to touch me.I flinched. “Dont— don't touch me.” The disgust came fast but I forced my face to stay blank.Something flashed in Lucian’s eyes. Hurt? I didn’t care.“What are you doing in my room?” I asked, my voice came out dry.“You were unconscious all night,” Lucian said. His voice was softer than the others. “We were worried.”I looked away from him. “I’m fine now,” I said, my teeth clenched. “You can leave.”Darius shifted beside him. I could feel it. He didn’t like my tone.Cassius looked worse. His jaw was tight like he was holding himself back.“Here,” Lucian said, stepping closer. “Take this. The doctor left it for you.”I glanced at the pills in his hand. I took them, swallowed, and opened my mouth slig
