Chapter 7

The Voice in My Head

Luka didn’t get much sleep that night. He kept recalling the voice in his head. He could not understand why he was becoming so obsessed with it and was confused about what had actually happened last night when he was at the cliff. He remembered the huge wave. He was not afraid of it, instead, he felt one with it. His emotions resonated with the fury of the wave. He knew it was destructive, but he also knew it would not reach the people at the banquet hall whom he cared for, it would have probably swallowed him up and taken out the rest of the villages in its wake. Then the voice sounded from within him, and his raging emotions were instantly stilled, just like the waves of the ocean. Could it be that his emotions were somehow linked to the ocean, thought Luka? I mean he was a werewolf, an Alpha from a Royal Bloodline, so he guessed it could be possible, but why hadn’t his parents mentioned anything to him before. Did they even know?

These questions left Luka feeling restless the entire night. He needed to shift again and feel the earth beneath his feet. He jumped out of bed and walked towards the edge of his balcony. His room was 3 stories up and had a beautiful view of his beloved cliff. Without hesitating Luka bounded over the balcony and shifted mid-air, landing on all fours. He took a deep breath and calmed his nerves, relying on his wolf senses to guide him through his muddled thoughts. He instantly felt better. He enjoyed being in wolf form, and he especially enjoyed the company of his wolf, Drago. Drago had been very quiet since last night, but Luka was too caught up in his own head to notice, otherwise, he would have known something was off with Drago. Luka trotted towards the edge of the cliff once more. The ocean below was still, barely any waves crashing, just calm ripples of water. He could still feel the presence of the voice within him but it was just out of his reach. He tried to reach out to it, summon it to speak again, but was not able to make a connection. Starting to feel agitated and frustrated he noticed the waves below becoming choppier and more forceful. “Why is this happening”, he thought to himself. Then he heard the voice faintly brush across him, “Wait for me”. Luka turned around thinking perhaps someone was playing tricks on him but there was no one around, no scent in the air. The soft voice sounded again, “Wait for me”, before completing receding. Luka was confused and exhausted. He needed to get some sleep and clear his head before speaking to his parents about this. He made his way home.
