“HMHHPPFFT!!!”
A hand muffled my scream.
I thrashed my arms in bewilderment, struggling to get up and get away from my attacker but it caught the wrist of my right hand and pinned me violently against my bed. I kept on screaming under the mysterious person’s rough hands. I shut my eyes tightly out of fear. The images of the demons that appeared in my nightmares are still fresh in my mind, twisting my thoughts into a panic. Then, behind my eyes, purple streaks of lightning came to my vision, sparkling inside my head until I felt it manifesting on my skin, around my arms.
“Sh*t! Hey! IT’S ME!”
I-I think I have heard that familiar hissing and grunting voice before. Is that Xeno?
Aghast and confused, I opened my eyes to his cold, golden liquid eyes his, illuminating agony as the purple streaks of lightning from my hand kept on electrocuting him. I quickly removed my hand from his arm to stop my power from churning him to a crisp. His face is so close to me that I felt so conscious about my looks. Why do I suddenly get worried if there’s something on my face? And why is he on top of me?
But what mesmerized me all of a sudden was the alluring manly scent that filled my nose and it made me close my eyes as his warmth radiated through the thin cloth of my nightgown. His body pressed against mine which gave strange sensations all over my skin and my heart started to ram into my chest. His gorgeous liquid-golden eyes stared into me as if he was drinking my soul but I was awakened by the reality that he is not supposed to be in my room at this kind of hour.
I moved his hand away from my mouth, feeling aggravated. “What are you doing?!”
Xeno released my wrist from his grip and sat on the edge of my bed, still writhing in pain and grunting. “Do you really have to do that?!” he mumbled. “I’m just here trying to confirm something.”
“Confirm what?” I sat and moved a little farther away from him, leaning my back against the headboard of the bed and bending both my knees onto my chest, looking very small but dangerous. “And yes, I’ll do that over and over again if you’ll continue being a creep!”
He raised one of his brows at me; his cold, arrogant stare came back to his face. “I don’t enjoy it if that’s what you’re thinking.”
Now that Xeno’s being this weird, I am starting to get wary about his next move. He averted his eyes from me though, but I could feel something was bothering him.
Every time our eyes meet, there is always this curiosity in him, questioning my presence in this place. I don’t have any idea why he’s always been so rude to me and it’s so alarming for me now that he suddenly sneaks into my room just to tell me something very confusing.
“You should have told me about it before, but not sneak here in the middle of the night. You freaking scared me!” I hissed at him, a little annoyed. Why is he being so strange all the time? I look at him with guilt for the burns I made on his arm when he checks on them. “Did I hurt you so bad? I’m sorry…”
“No, it's fine. It’s nothing. Come.” He said, demanding me to follow him. To brush off my worries, he flexed his injured arm for me to see under the dim light of my lamp, the injury I had caused him. I thought he was trying to make me feel guilty about it at first but to my surprise, the tissues of his skin started recuperating, creating new layers until the burn totally healed as if nothing had happened to it. I was speechless but my heartbeat went fast, frightened for the second time when he grabbed my arm again, pulling me out of the bed.
“W-wait. Where are you taking me?” I ask, a little nervous. I find Xeno very unpredictable as days pass that I’m staying here in this Mansion. My mind is telling me it’s dangerous to go with him but my heart is thrilled to know what kind of place he is going to take me.
I’ve been in this room the whole time since Phillius brought me here, having no idea what will happen to me next. Maybe sneaking out with him in the middle of the night may give me some opportunity to see the whole city and every wonderful thing around it.
Although I already have small ideas about it, there is this annoying feeling— an urgent need to see and learn more, concerning how I could be able to fit into this place, this year, and their culture. I have to look convincing without being too obvious that I am ignorant of their ways of living. There should be something that could trigger back the memories I have lost so I have to gather more information, just in case.
But my extra cautiousness about Xeno’s strange behavior made me think twice about it.
Squinting at him, I curled myself more and embraced my knees tightly against my chest. I crinkle my nose and said in a tough voice, “No.”
His brows furrowed and the golden color of the pupil of his eyes glinted in the darkness once again. But this time, in a condescending way. “You really want to get yourself in trouble being this stubborn, hm?”
“I’m not sure if I can trust you.”
“You have no choice. Besides, I am doing you a great favor. You want to get out of this place, right? So why do you have to be so stubborn now?” He raised one of his brows at me.
“Because I don’t know what you want from me.” I hissed at him. Why is he being so pushy?
He rolled his eyes, a sign that he was getting more impatient now. “Don’t assume that I like you ok? I just need to confirm something! So get up and wear something thicker than your nightgown.”
I looked down at my body and gasped, realizing that the clothing looks almost transparent on my skin. Does that mean he saw my body while I was sleeping? , so I wallow as he looked down at his hands resting on his thighs, fidgeting. I even wonder if he is blushing right now.
“Fine,” I conceded but I still gave him a disdainful look, knowing that his eyes must have feasted already on me before he woke me up. “Please, I need to change clothes. Can you meet me outside?”
“Make it quick.”
I wrinkled my nose at him to show how rude he was. Thankfully, he stood up and went outside the room.
Looking at my huge wardrobe, I have no idea what kind of clothing to wear so I just grabbed a small red dress and a sleek, black jacket from the wardrobe. I also snatched a pair of black boots and slipped them to the length of my knees.
It only took me fifteen minutes so I quickly ran to the door and opened it to see Xeno.
The moment he saw me, I thought he was petrified at first, staring at me from head to foot. But then he cleared his throat and I wondered why he suddenly looked nervous.
“Let’s go.”
Xeno led me toward the corridor of their house. All is silent and only the night crickets could be heard as we crouch our way toward the garden. I wonder what time it is already. Everyone must be already sleeping. Just how many people are living in this huge place? and what functions do they have? This Mansion is too vast for only the Alpha and his twin werewolves to live. The chill breeze greeted me, sending goosebumps on my skin once we got outside the door and out to the gardens. Xeno became extra careful this time, knowing there are three sentries that are taking turns roving the place. To my surprise, he walked casually toward the gate and talked to one of the sentries who looked at me suspiciously. I exhaled in relief when it smiled and nodded at me, letting us both out discreetly. “I owe you this one, Frix.” “No problem, young master. Just make sure both of you are here before master Phillius looks for the Fae.” Xeno nodded and made a gesture for me to go outside first. With
That night with Xeno brought a special smile to my face and I can’t help but imagine myself sneaking out again with him while the entire people in the mansion had no idea about our own little secret. Well… except for the sentry guard, Frix. Since the day that Xeno proposed to his father about letting me join their hunting corps, Phillius became clingier to me. Everywhere I go, he must know. After Xeno and I’s small gallivanting in the city he called New York, it made me crave more of his presence and Phillius’ strictness about my strolling around the place during the night made it more difficult for me to steal a moment with Xeno. Sometimes, I have a feeling he’s trying to avoid me or maybe he’s just too busy with his missions. It’s so hard to get some sleep at night, wishing Xeno would sneak again into my room and let me ride on his back so he could show me the beautiful city lights again. Phillius was not happy when the Alpha granted Xeno’s request for me to join the corps. But th
His stare is so mesmerizing that I could barely breathe out of nervousness… my heartbeat drums against my ribs, wanting to skip right off my chest as his face lowers onto mine, driving my mind crazy. Is he going to kiss me? I bite my lower lip and in that instant, the gentle, kind look in his eyes changed into a burning desire. With curiosity overwhelming my mind, I let his thin lips brush against my pinkish, sultry lips. I tasted his luscious sweetness, giving me a fluttering feeling inside my stomach. He smells like the morning sun, so fresh and lovely and I couldn’t stop myself from wanting more of him. As our kiss deepens, our breath starts to get ragged against each other. My hands automatically grabbed the sleeve of his shirt, scared that my knees would shudder and lose my balance. But Phillius carried me effortlessly in his arms as I let myself go with the flow and slowly melted into his arms. I gasp when his tongue moves invasively, searching the inside of my mouth, and altho
If Xeno thinks he could get rid of me just like that, he’s wrong. After he morphed into a giant black werewolf and disappeared into thin air with the use of the invisibility amulet, I gritted my teeth and ran towards the gate of the mansion, hoping Frix is on duty for tonight. The uncomfortable feeling of my suit made it more difficult for me to move. Grunting with pure vexation against Xeno, I flipped my long golden hair onto my back and searched for Frix in the guard house. My face was in a rage when I saw him stepping out of the door holding a piece of bread and a cup of hot drink. “FRIX!!!” His eyes widened at my sudden call on his name, his hand shook, and almost dropped the stuff he was holding in his hand, “OH DEAR LORD! I almost threw my food! You scared me, my lady!” “I-I’m so sorry I need your help!” I lowered my voice feeling embarrassed and jumped inside his small guard shack beside the Mansion's huge gate. “My squad left without me and I can’t keep up with them. I do
There’s no time…With a speed I couldn’t control, I felt like I was flying towards Xeno, both my feet barely touching the ground. The adrenaline in my veins called my mana to bring out the purple lightning, which appeared in just seconds with sparkling lights at first, then the current swirled around my arms, releasing them in a surge of incredible capacity, hoping it’s enough to bring down the demon appearing behind Xeno.I heard the yelp of the werewolves as I passed through them, my speed was enough to get behind the beast as it formed into a demon, taller and more massive than the three trolls they first encountered. This one is dangerous. I could feel the pure evil reeking from its existence.“AHHH!!!”I cried in rage as I slammed both my hands down on the demon’s lower nape, sending the lightning through-out its whole body, making it scream in agony. The lightning on my hand made a dazzling light, blinding my eyes as I sc
After the night of my first mission, Phillius became more austere to me, always making sure that Anna and Hazel’s eyes are on me, watching everything I do, wherever I go, and during my training when he’s off somewhere, dealing with their family business. Sometimes, I want to feel mad or annoyed at either of my handmaids but then, I understand that they are just doing their job and I don’t want Phillius to get mad at them if in any case, I might do something he would never like.Just like getting close to Xeno or even talking to him…He forbade it after he saw both of us in that port, which made me more anxious because I can’t understand why he’s being so overprotective to me. Xeno’s his brother right? But then I thought, maybe he’s expecting for me to be around him all the time because of the engagement thingy. I haven’t accepted it yet, though but Phillius is really determined about it.“I’m so sorry Miss that we have to be a
I run straight to the garden, escaping the suffocating place of crowded strangers inside the mansion. I sit behind the tall arborvitae trees, obscuring me from the eyes of anyone lingering around the mansion. With haste, I took off the corset with fast fingers and filled my lungs with fresh cold air as soon as I got rid of it. I don’t want to leave Phillius in the middle of that exuberant and glamorous event but I can’t be with him when my mind is filled with Xeno’s thoughts. I don’t want to be that cruel to Phillius and I hate myself for it.Finally released from the agony of being tortured by the blasted thing I feel like slowly killing me, I leave the corset on the grass where I removed it and think of strolling inside the garden. The wind is chilly against my skin and I need the fresh air to calm my nerves. I still can’t take Xeno’s face out of my mind when I saw him inside the ballroom, hiding in the shadows. Why is he glaring at me l
“Make your back a little straight but don’t be too stiff! Relax your mind! Always on alert! Rely on the scent and focus your eyes on your target!”Scent?! As if I have that kind of ability for him to yell at me like that.I can’t help but scoff and sneer and mumble to myself while avoiding having eye contact with Xeno. His voice is like needles piercing through my neck, irritating to the feeling as the memories of our last night’s situation came back to my memory, making it hard for me to concentrate more, especially when his glare casts upon me.He has been teaching us proper posture and how to execute a deadly strike. They need it even in their human form when the enemy is too fast for them to morph. “Demons will never wait for you to transform! You must practice how you’ll do it in a split second, and execute a surprise attack! Always aim at the back of their heads. And if not, then strike hard in the middle of their chest!
