Xeno led me toward the corridor of their house. All is silent and only the night crickets could be heard as we crouch our way toward the garden. I wonder what time it is already. Everyone must be already sleeping. Just how many people are living in this huge place? and what functions do they have? This Mansion is too vast for only the Alpha and his twin werewolves to live.
The chill breeze greeted me, sending goosebumps on my skin once we got outside the door and out to the gardens. Xeno became extra careful this time, knowing there are three sentries that are taking turns roving the place. To my surprise, he walked casually toward the gate and talked to one of the sentries who looked at me suspiciously. I exhaled in relief when it smiled and nodded at me, letting us both out discreetly.
“I owe you this one, Frix.”
“No problem, young master. Just make sure both of you are here before master Phillius looks for the Fae.”
Xeno nodded and made a gesture for me to go outside first. With excitement and haste, I ran and squeezed myself into the small opening of the mansion gate, as Frix, the sentry guy scanned the area behind us, making sure no one would find out that Xeno and I were sneaking out. I felt like a bird released from her cage as I inhaled the cold air dramatically with a wide smile on my face. It’s a bit cloudy tonight, making the surrounding area darker than usual.
Heavy footsteps made me step back in fear when from the shadows; a huge black werewolf appeared behind me. Its golden eyes stared at me with arrogance just like how Xeno stared at me in his human form. After realizing it was just him, the panic in my head disappeared and we both walked towards each other in the middle of darkness, both confused but curious about each other’s reaction, now that he was approaching me like this.
I extended my hand to touch his fury face but he flinched from me like a wild beast. I saw the hesitation in his eyes. I feel bad about it though because I’m just trying to be friendlier to him but I guess he’s not just that easy to tame.
I jumped and almost yelped when I didn’t notice that Frix was already behind me and whispered, “My lady, master Xeno wants you to ride on his back so you both could go to the place he wants to show you.”
“Heavens! You scared me!” I hissed at him and sighed, my hands on my chest. “Fine, I don’t know why he’s being so strange like this but because both of you are letting me outside, then I’ll go with you.”
Frix smiled at me and helped me get on Xeno’s back. I felt his body shudder when I sat on him though and it made me blush. My bare legs are squeezing on his sides, testing my balance and making sure I won’t fall from him once he starts to move. But why am I feeling so embarrassed now?
Subconsciously, I feel like I’m riding on him on a piggyback if he’s in his human form and it makes me so uncomfortable knowing I’m only wearing an undergarment but I have no choice.
To my surprise, Xeno ran and jumped from building to building until we reached a tall one that overlooks the whole city. I descend from his back and watch the pretty city lights underneath us.
They look like stars under the cloudy night sky, sparkling in different kinds of colors, but more vivid and stunning to look at.
I enjoy how these places always seem busy; the population of bustling people is thrilling to watch as they all walk towards their own destinations, making me wonder what makes them always busy. There is something inside me that remembers this kind of sentiment but my mind cannot grasp it, leaving me sad and disheartened once again.
Xeno came back shirtless, wearing only his tight, black jeans. I don’t know why but my throat suddenly went dry as I bit my lip upon seeing those well-carved six-pack abs and his well-trained body as he approached me barefooted. His eyes are smoky, sensual, and mesmerizing as it reflects the light from below us.
I quickly averted my eyes from him, denying to myself how so sexy he looked tonight. I hate this kind of feeling. Why am I so attracted to Xeno? I feel like I’m getting insane, struggling so hard to ignore these feelings…
“Can you see that?”
I squinted where his fingers were pointing; directing me to the tip of a tower. At first, I thought the thing hovering around it was only black smoke, but as I stared at it longer, the smoke turned into an indistinct figure with wide flapping wings, as it flew around the rod of the building.
“What is that?!
“So you can see it. My guess is right.” Xeno smirked to himself and stepped closer to me.
Oh, please don’t… my heart will explode!
“I already discussed it with my father about it but I guess he’s still speculating if he’ll consider it.” He glanced at me, looking confident. “I think we can make good use of your power.”
“What do you mean?” I gave him a quizzical look because I can’t understand what he is implying. I wonder if he’s also like this to other people… being too indirect yet intellectual when he speaks.
“I suggested to them to let you join the hunting corps so you could test your ability. And that means you won’t have to detain yourself in that room all day. Is that sounding good to you?”
“Wait, what kind of job do you want me to sign for again?” I ask, trying to make things clearer on what he’s proposing to me. “Hunting Corps… are you referring to those dark creatures?”
His lips curved into a teasing… no, more like a mocking grin. “Scared?”
Ohh this guy! He’s testing my patience! “Of course, I’m not. You’re right. Maybe if I use my power more often, I might remember something from my past.”
“Can I call you Sapphire though? I don’t want to talk to people and not mention their names sometimes. Well, I don’t talk a lot anyway. But if you need a name, I think you can use that. I examined the place where Phillius found you and I saw those shattered sapphire crystals on the ground.”
I chuckled at him and he looked at me, confused by my sudden unexpected reaction towards him. And is that a hint of amusement in his eyes?
“What?”
“For a person who says he doesn't talk too much, you indeed talk too much just now,” I told him, chuckling, trying to enjoy the new mood progressing between us. I couldn't help but smile widely at him and he snickered back at me! For the first time!!!
“Stop it. Let’s go back, Sapphire.” He grinned. His phone rang twice and he answered the call, his brows wrinkled.
“Sh*t we have to head back, now.”
That night with Xeno brought a special smile to my face and I can’t help but imagine myself sneaking out again with him while the entire people in the mansion had no idea about our own little secret. Well… except for the sentry guard, Frix. Since the day that Xeno proposed to his father about letting me join their hunting corps, Phillius became clingier to me. Everywhere I go, he must know. After Xeno and I’s small gallivanting in the city he called New York, it made me crave more of his presence and Phillius’ strictness about my strolling around the place during the night made it more difficult for me to steal a moment with Xeno. Sometimes, I have a feeling he’s trying to avoid me or maybe he’s just too busy with his missions. It’s so hard to get some sleep at night, wishing Xeno would sneak again into my room and let me ride on his back so he could show me the beautiful city lights again. Phillius was not happy when the Alpha granted Xeno’s request for me to join the corps. But th
His stare is so mesmerizing that I could barely breathe out of nervousness… my heartbeat drums against my ribs, wanting to skip right off my chest as his face lowers onto mine, driving my mind crazy. Is he going to kiss me? I bite my lower lip and in that instant, the gentle, kind look in his eyes changed into a burning desire. With curiosity overwhelming my mind, I let his thin lips brush against my pinkish, sultry lips. I tasted his luscious sweetness, giving me a fluttering feeling inside my stomach. He smells like the morning sun, so fresh and lovely and I couldn’t stop myself from wanting more of him. As our kiss deepens, our breath starts to get ragged against each other. My hands automatically grabbed the sleeve of his shirt, scared that my knees would shudder and lose my balance. But Phillius carried me effortlessly in his arms as I let myself go with the flow and slowly melted into his arms. I gasp when his tongue moves invasively, searching the inside of my mouth, and altho
If Xeno thinks he could get rid of me just like that, he’s wrong. After he morphed into a giant black werewolf and disappeared into thin air with the use of the invisibility amulet, I gritted my teeth and ran towards the gate of the mansion, hoping Frix is on duty for tonight. The uncomfortable feeling of my suit made it more difficult for me to move. Grunting with pure vexation against Xeno, I flipped my long golden hair onto my back and searched for Frix in the guard house. My face was in a rage when I saw him stepping out of the door holding a piece of bread and a cup of hot drink. “FRIX!!!” His eyes widened at my sudden call on his name, his hand shook, and almost dropped the stuff he was holding in his hand, “OH DEAR LORD! I almost threw my food! You scared me, my lady!” “I-I’m so sorry I need your help!” I lowered my voice feeling embarrassed and jumped inside his small guard shack beside the Mansion's huge gate. “My squad left without me and I can’t keep up with them. I do
There’s no time…With a speed I couldn’t control, I felt like I was flying towards Xeno, both my feet barely touching the ground. The adrenaline in my veins called my mana to bring out the purple lightning, which appeared in just seconds with sparkling lights at first, then the current swirled around my arms, releasing them in a surge of incredible capacity, hoping it’s enough to bring down the demon appearing behind Xeno.I heard the yelp of the werewolves as I passed through them, my speed was enough to get behind the beast as it formed into a demon, taller and more massive than the three trolls they first encountered. This one is dangerous. I could feel the pure evil reeking from its existence.“AHHH!!!”I cried in rage as I slammed both my hands down on the demon’s lower nape, sending the lightning through-out its whole body, making it scream in agony. The lightning on my hand made a dazzling light, blinding my eyes as I sc
After the night of my first mission, Phillius became more austere to me, always making sure that Anna and Hazel’s eyes are on me, watching everything I do, wherever I go, and during my training when he’s off somewhere, dealing with their family business. Sometimes, I want to feel mad or annoyed at either of my handmaids but then, I understand that they are just doing their job and I don’t want Phillius to get mad at them if in any case, I might do something he would never like.Just like getting close to Xeno or even talking to him…He forbade it after he saw both of us in that port, which made me more anxious because I can’t understand why he’s being so overprotective to me. Xeno’s his brother right? But then I thought, maybe he’s expecting for me to be around him all the time because of the engagement thingy. I haven’t accepted it yet, though but Phillius is really determined about it.“I’m so sorry Miss that we have to be a
I run straight to the garden, escaping the suffocating place of crowded strangers inside the mansion. I sit behind the tall arborvitae trees, obscuring me from the eyes of anyone lingering around the mansion. With haste, I took off the corset with fast fingers and filled my lungs with fresh cold air as soon as I got rid of it. I don’t want to leave Phillius in the middle of that exuberant and glamorous event but I can’t be with him when my mind is filled with Xeno’s thoughts. I don’t want to be that cruel to Phillius and I hate myself for it.Finally released from the agony of being tortured by the blasted thing I feel like slowly killing me, I leave the corset on the grass where I removed it and think of strolling inside the garden. The wind is chilly against my skin and I need the fresh air to calm my nerves. I still can’t take Xeno’s face out of my mind when I saw him inside the ballroom, hiding in the shadows. Why is he glaring at me l
“Make your back a little straight but don’t be too stiff! Relax your mind! Always on alert! Rely on the scent and focus your eyes on your target!”Scent?! As if I have that kind of ability for him to yell at me like that.I can’t help but scoff and sneer and mumble to myself while avoiding having eye contact with Xeno. His voice is like needles piercing through my neck, irritating to the feeling as the memories of our last night’s situation came back to my memory, making it hard for me to concentrate more, especially when his glare casts upon me.He has been teaching us proper posture and how to execute a deadly strike. They need it even in their human form when the enemy is too fast for them to morph. “Demons will never wait for you to transform! You must practice how you’ll do it in a split second, and execute a surprise attack! Always aim at the back of their heads. And if not, then strike hard in the middle of their chest!
It feels like the first time I got into Phillius' car, the day he had found me in the middle of the forest…I sit beside him on the passenger’s side, my knees on my chest as I curl myself into a ball while looking at the busy streets from the window, wondering what kind of jobs these people have. Do they hunt for their food? This place is too wide but I haven’t seen any vacant or farmlands around it. It’s a mystery to me how these people acquire food on their table.Embracing myself more tightly gives me a feeling of sort of relief, glad that Phillius led me out of that embarrassing situation with Xeno. I never thought riding on this thing and looking at the beautiful structures of this place would take a bit of my stress away for a moment.“I’m so sorry for what Xeno had done to you, Sapphire. How is your wrist?”Remembering it, I checked on my wrist and saw that the bruises are already gone. I think my mana had healed the inj
