A home or a Prison?

After the incident, it was impossible for me to escape anymore. I was so terrified that my body went into a petrified state, out of shock. Phillius, with the help of that handsome, dark-haired guy, led me gently inside his car again. I should be protesting but I don’t know why I was so beguiled by those golden eyes and I submissively got into the car. The dark-haired guy didn’t go with us. Phillius started the car and we left him standing in the middle of that road while all the people started to get curious about the incident. I watched him in the mirror, beside the window of the car as Phillius drove away from the embarrassing situation I made.

“I’m so sorry if I scared you. I don’t mean any harm if that’s what you think. I want to help you, that’s all.” Phillius explained, his face very apologetic. “That’s my twin by the way. My brother.”

“He’s your brother?” I repeated, trying to voice out the words properly. I wanted to ask how his brother suddenly appeared in the middle of nowhere and managed to stop that huge vehicle from almost crushing me. But all of it was too much for me to say so I curled again in the back seat, still confused and dazed. Since I destroyed the door on the right side of his vehicle, I can’t sit near him which made me a little relieved. I don’t know why but there is something in Phillius that makes me feel so nervous…

“Yes. I’ll take you to our home so you could change your clothes and eat. You can stay there until you remember where you’re from.” Phillius kindly said and gave me a worried smile. “I’ll explain to you why I called you a Fae.”

I hid my face between my knees and suddenly felt ashamed that I acted so foolishly. He just wanted to help me right? I have no one to go to in the first place and I can’t distinguish anything that could make me remember my past or the kind of life that I had.

An hour had passed since I rode on his mystical transport. We stopped in front of a vast house structure that looks smaller than a palace but bigger than a manor. I cannot explain why I know such things but it’s like bits of knowledge that stayed in my head, apart from the details of my past. I wanted to try and remember more but I was distracted by the wonderful garden decorated with lots of pretty flowers, making the whole place so pleasant to the eyes.

The peacefulness of the place and the garden's scent are the first pretty things I have seen since I came out of the cave and met Phillius. I think I’ve seen a place with a magnificent garden like this before but my brain was still silent. I let Phillius lead me inside his home while holding my hand. His hands are soft which gave me a feeling of security and I gave him a smile to let him know how thankful I am for his help. He squeezed my hand in response. Maybe I can give him a chance to prove he’s a good guy and not the kind that my instinct tells me yet. It must be because I still feel so wary about this new environment that I am always in a full defensive mode.

So this is his home… is he some kind of a magnate? I wonder what title he has in this society to attain such wealth.

Funny that I can’t remember anything in my life yet I can understand his language. I know certain words and I have an idea how society works referring to titles and Lordship but when I try to rummage anything in my brain about my past, nothing appears.

As we entered his home, he immediately called random people’s names and after a minute or two, they all appeared in front of us, standing with their backs straight. All the female’s clothes are uniform and the old man in front of them looks sharp in his black clothing. I flinched when I saw their curious faces staring at me from head to foot.

“Anna, Hazel, please bring her to any of our guest rooms here and give her something appropriate to wear,” Phillius ordered the ladies in front of us.

So they are his servants.

I felt so alarmed when the two came to me. I held Phillius' arm tightly and buried my face in his soft clothing when they were about to take me somewhere, still a little scared of so many people around me. Minutes ago, I wanted to escape from him and now, I don’t want to go anywhere without him, since he’s the only person I know in this place.

“Hi, miss you will be fine… we will take care of you…” one of the servants smiled at me reassuringly and held my hand gently, pulling me towards her. My body somehow relaxed but I looked back at Phillius before and I let her guide me toward the place she wants me to go.

“You will be ok, miss. I’ll help you find your home. For now, you can stay here while I’m looking for any information if someone has reported you missing. You’re safe here.” Phillius told me in his gentle voice and the maids he called Anna and Hazel helped me climb up the stairs. My legs are getting more steady and strong and I can finally walk without leaning on something. I embraced the warm fabric Phillius had given me as I anxiously walked with the maids on both sides.

We were about to enter the corridor that heads straight to the spare room Phillius had mentioned when my eyes caught that tall man with dark hair, who saved me from my near death. He was walking slowly towards us, buttoning the sleeve on his wrist. Our eyes met and I felt like my heart skipped a beat, his expression stoic. I don’t know why I feel so fascinated whenever his beautiful golden eyes stare at me with curiosity. I just love how it glistens when it gets touched by any single light, making it so expressive despite his lips stretched to a straight line.

“Good day, Master Xeno.” The two maids bowed their heads to him.

So his name is Xeno…

***

The two maids, Hazel and Anna have been so kind to me. They always asked me for anything I needed, brought me food, and helped me with things that I don’t understand. There are so many things that made me so curious, especially the foods and drinks they brought me. I feel like I had eaten them somewhere but I can’t just tell. My favorite one is the apple pie they made.

Shaking the anxiety off my head, I buried my face in the soft pillows of the bed. I can’t just stay here doing nothing. What should I do? I have no idea what my existence means after I got out of that cave. But I believe something had happened that woke me up from that deep sleep. I can’t exactly tell what it is, yet. But there’s a strong notion in me that something will come. An entity that is dark and dangerous and it makes me so restless.

With a heavy feeling, I stared at the full-length mirror across the bed. I sat down on the edge of the bed and tried to cheer myself up. I like the dress they gave me today. The orange fabric with sunflower prints accentuates the color of my long, silver hair. My purple eyes look so vivid under the dim light from the ceiling. With curiosity, I touched my heart-shaped face and opened my full lips slightly. I have no idea why I suddenly felt conscious about my looks so I stood near the mirror, twirling in front of it a few times. I look so white, skinny, and small.

With my head full of so many questions, I thought of sneaking outside Phillius’ mansion to observe more about this place. Maybe there will be something that could trigger any of my memories. But men are guarding the gates, watching for any suspicious thing around the premises so I know it won’t be easy for me.

I hid carefully behind the bushes and I thought of something to use for me to climb the wall. I found out I could use the vines that crawled on the precast fence. I am small and my body isn’t too heavy for me to clamber up towards the other side of it.

I have to know what kind of this place is.
