Chapter 35: Expectation Versus Reality

They were talking about a shopping spree and Mrs Hayford mentioned some places they could visit. Ruth frowned and stretched her neck to look through the open window

"Wait, that doesn't look like Chantel is a house help," Ruth thought seeing the interaction between the two, Mrs Hayford and Chantel.

"Excuse ma'am, are you looking for someone?" came the voice of a lady in uniform.

Ruth looked at the lady in uniform briefly and back at Chantel through the window and walked towards the lady finding a perfect excuse to give for her action.

"I saw a job advertised in the newspaper and wanted to find out if the vacancy is still available. I tried calling but no one answered," Ruth said with a smile

"Oh, it is not this house. The apartment is three blocks away from here down the street," the lady replied

"Thank you, ma'am, but do need workers here," Ruth asked acting like she is thinking of the lady as the owner

"Oh, I am a worker here. The madam herself is inside. She currently not e
