Chapter 8: Starting my new life

“No, stop… You have the wrong person. No!” I sit up in bed quickly, my breathing heavy. It must have been a bad dream. I rub the sleep out of my eyes to see the sun streaming in from the window. I get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. There are some clothes laid out on the sink along with some shower supplies. I undress and step into the shower, letting the water run down my body for a few moments. The hot water feels so good on my skin, I never want to get out. I grab the shampoo and start washing my hair, then move on to my body. I finish by washing my face, then rinse off and get out. After drying my body and hair, I toss it into a bun, just as I always do. I throw on the fitted t-shirt and pants that are on the sink. I feel so much better after a nice hot shower and having some clean clothes to wear.

I finish getting ready and make my way downstairs to the kitchen. The smell of breakfast fills the air. I take in the smell of bacon and eggs, and I am starving. I walk in to see Troy, Jake, and Molly all sitting at the table. Troy is looking through some papers while eating. I sit down, and Alex brings me a plate and a glass of orange juice.

“Thank you,” I say with a small smile.

“It's my pleasure, Luna,” he says, nodding his head.

“Please call me Kate,” I say, taking a sip of the orange juice. He says nothing, just walks away. I look to Troy and Jake as they glance at each other before turning to me.

“What?” I ask.

"The only person who will call you Kate is Troy. To the rest of the pack, you are Luna. It is seen as disrespectful to call the Luna by her name.” Jake explains.

“But I am not a Luna, not yet anyway,” I say. Troy stops messing with the pile of papers and looks at me.

“You are there, whether it is official or not. You might as well get used to it.” Troy says sternly, then starts looking through the papers again.

I start eating, not saying another word. We just sit in silence, with the only sounds being those of forks on plates and papers shuffling. I stand up after finishing my plate and grab it. I start making my way towards the kitchen when I am stopped by Troy. He reaches his arm out as I am about to pass him.

“What are you doing?” He asks, not looking up.

“Putting my plate away,” I say with a questioning tone.

“Alex will get that,” he says, as Alex comes from the kitchen, taking the plate from my hands.

“I don't mind, it's not a big deal,” I say.

“The Luna does not do dishes,” Troy says. I go back to my seat and sit down, looking at him as he flips through the papers again.

After a moment, he says, “These look fine,” handing the stack of papers to Jake.

“Today, you will start to learn about how the pack operates day to day. You will also learn some of your roles as the Luna,” Troy says.

“Okay,” I say

“We will start with the pack meeting this morning. You will sit to the side and observe, only that means no talking,” he says, standing up from the table.

I watch as he walks down the hall past the stairs, and he stops for a moment.

“Well, come on,” he says

I stand from my chair, walking towards him, making it clear to him that I'm in no hurry to do what he says. We walk down the hall as he explains to me what the pack meeting is about.

“We have a pack meeting every Monday. Here we talk about the security of our land and any concerns the pack may have. I address them while making orders to correct them if needed. I will also let the pack know of any events coming up, as well as outlining my everyday expectations. I allow them to ask any questions they may have. After the meeting is over, we will walk the grounds, looking over our pack and its condition. There is going to be a lot going on, so prepare yourself. You will basically be just observing. You can ask questions as we go, just not while we are in the meeting,” he explains.

I shake my head so he knows I was listening. We make our way to the meeting room, and as Troy steps inside, everyone jumps to their feet. Troy raises his hand, then everyone takes their seats. The room is filled with people I do not know. I stand in the doorway, not knowing what to do. I look around the room and notice everyone is looking at me, and I am getting uncomfortable. Troy walks over to me and takes my hand. He leads me to a chair in the corner of the room. I sit down as everyone turns their attention to Troy.

“Good morning, let's get right to it. Jake, what is the report for today?” he starts.

Jake replies, “The border is good, no sign of anyone last night. However, people are starting to talk about your..” Troy cuts him off.

“Thank you. We will get to that in a minute. Does anyone have any concerts regarding pack safety? No? Okay, moving on. As some of you know, I have found my mate. The mating ceremony will be held once she is ready. For now, she will learn our ways, and everyone will make sure she is comfortable at all times,” he says. He goes on to talk some more, but I kind of just zone out.

“Tonight, we will have a bonfire. Everyone is to be on their best behavior, nothing too crazy, we do not want to scare her off,” He laughs, looking at me. I give him a look of un-amusement.

“That is all for now, everyone is dismissed,” he commands.

I make my way to the bedroom to get ready. I can not believe it is happening right now. It seemed like forever away, and now here we are. I go into the bathroom, where I notice a dress hanging on the door. It is a beautiful floor-length ball gown, emerald green in color with a V neck. The top was made of lace with small stones that trailed down to about mid-side. It had a slit on the left side and a small train. It was the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. I slip it on and throw my hair into a quick but elegant updo. Then, after putting on the finishing touches, earrings, necklace, and shoes, I make my way downstairs. I see Molly at the base of the stairs talking to Jake.“Hey Molly, where is Troy?” I ask.“He is already at the ceremony waiting for you. He is getting everyone seated and making sure everything is ready,” she said.“He has made such a fuss about making sure everything is perfect,” Jake says. “That is so sweet,” I say.“If you want, I can walk with you,” she says.

I wake up seeing the run rise out the window and take a moment to enjoy it before getting ready for the day. I walk over to the window and push it open, letting the cool morning breeze flow through the room. I pause for a moment to listen to the birds singing and the sound of the wind in the trees. This is my last chance to run to try and get away. Am I crazy for wanting to stay? This whole situation is insane after all. I am kidnapped not once but twice, then I find out werewolves are not only real but that I am mated to one? Any sane person would stop at nothing to get away. That makes me crazy, but I guess that's okay. After taking a shower, I throw on some clothes and make my way downstairs.“Good morning,” he says. “You as well,” I replied. “So what is the plan for today?”“Everyone is setting up for the ceremony. You can take the morning to do what you wish; the ceremony starts at 2 pm.” He smiles.”“Actually, I'd like to stick by your side today if that’s okay,” I say. “Of co

KateI open my eyes to the sun streaming in the window. I lay there, listening to the birds sing, and dreaded getting out of bed. Every day that passes is a day closer to getting marked. I get out of bed and walk over to the bathroom. I turn on the bath water while I lay out some clothes and get undressed. After stepping into the tub, I let the water rise all the way to my neck before shutting it off. Soaking in the hot water, my mind wanders. What will it feel like? Will it change me? I hear a knock on the door, then the door opens slowly. “Good morning, beautiful,” Troy says, cracking the door but not looking in. “Good morning,” I replied without opening my eyes. “Are you alright?” He asks. “Yes, just thinking,” I say. “Breakfast is almost done.” He says. “Can you have Alex bring it to the garden?” I ask. “Yes, I will.” He says, closing the door. I finish my bath and get dressed. Then head down to the garden. I want some time to myself to think about everything. As I make

TroyOur lips touch, and my wolf goes crazy wanting to take her right here, right now. I have to pull him back, reminding him she is fragile. I pull away from her lips for a moment, looking into her eyes. I wrap my fingers in her hair and pull her into a deep, slow kiss that sends lightning throughout my body. I let my hands fall to her waist and pull her close. Then I feel her tense. “Is this alright?” I ask her. “Yeah, it’s just,” she pauses, “I’ve never done anything before.”“I know, we will take things slow. I’ll only do what you are comfortable with,” I say, stroking her cheek in comfort. “Thank you,” she says with a smile. “Do you want to stop here?” I ask. “I don’t know,” she says, unsure. “Want to go somewhere more private?” I ask“Sure,” she says. I take her hand, leading her back to the packhouse and into my room. I pull her into another kiss as I walk her back towards the bed. Once there, I slowly push her to lie down. KateAs he lays me on the bed, I can feel the

KateI see Troy towards the huge pile of wood that is stacked in the center. He grabs one of the lit torches and addresses the crowd of people. “Food is ready, let’s have some fun,” he says, throwing the touch into the pile of wood, which instantly goes up in flames.“Did you enjoy your evening alone?” he asks, walking past me towards the tables lined with food and drinks.I follow behind him as I reply. “Yes, actually, I had a really nice time, but I do have to ask you a favor,” “Oh? What might that be?” he asks, piling food on his plate.“I need some money. I got a camera from one of the shops, and he wouldn't let me pay. But I do not feel right taking something that he would have made money on selling. So I need to pay him for it, but I do not have any money. I don't have anything of my own now that I think about it. You took me away from my life, and everything I had is gone,” I sayHe turns to me with a sigh, “Okay, I will make sure he is paid for the camera. If you would like,

  • The Unexpected Luna    Chapter 9: What’s is to come

KateI follow Troy out of the meeting room and out the front door. We walk down the path towards the common area. I can hear voices in the distance, kids laughing, people talking. I take a look around and see it is really busy. There are little shop stands sitting around. Kids running and playing while parents stand nearby. I follow as Troy walks through the crowd, greeting people and shaking hands. I stop when I see a nursery full of kids. They are lying on the ground, coloring and making crafts. I walk over to them.“Hello,” I say, greeting the teacher.“Luna, Good morning, my name is Rebeca. I am one of the teachers here at the nursery. It is nice to meet you,” she says.“Good morning. I love kids, so I just had to come over and meet them.” I say.“You are welcome anytime, Luna. The kids love visitors,” she says.I sit down next to the kids and start coloring with them, completely forgetting that I was supposed to be following Troy. TroyAs I walk through the commons, I notice Kat
