I follow Troy out of the meeting room and out the front door. We walk down the path towards the common area. I can hear voices in the distance, kids laughing, people talking. I take a look around and see it is really busy. There are little shop stands sitting around. Kids running and playing while parents stand nearby. I follow as Troy walks through the crowd, greeting people and shaking hands. I stop when I see a nursery full of kids. They are lying on the ground, coloring and making crafts. I walk over to them. “Hello,” I say, greeting the teacher. “Luna, Good morning, my name is Rebeca. I am one of the teachers here at the nursery. It is nice to meet you,” she says. “Good morning. I love kids, so I just had to come over and meet them.” I say. “You are welcome anytime, Luna. The kids love visitors,” she says. I sit down next to the kids and start coloring with them, completely forgetting that I was supposed to be following Troy. Troy As I walk through the commons, I notice Kate is no longer behind me. I start retracting my steps to find her. Finally, I see her sitting in the nursery playing with the kids. I stand and watch for a bit. It is nice to finally see her smile and have fun. I see Rebeca walking over to me. “Rebeca,” I say. “Alpha,” Rebeca starts, “I meet your lovely mate. She is amazing, so nice, and she loves the kids. They also seem to really like her. I think she is going to make an excellent Luna.” “Thank you, I hope she does,” I say with a smile. “Kate,” I yell to her. She looks up, her smile fading as she sees me. She walks over after saying goodbye to the children. “Sorry,” Kate says. “Don't be sorry. You can come visit the kids anytime you want, but for now, I need to show you the rest of the pack,” I say. “Okay, let's go,” she says. I take her through the rest of the pack, explaining this is a safe place for our kind. Not everyone is so open to the idea of werewolves. I show her all the amenities we have, such as the pool, gym, and park. We finished the tour just in time for lunch. “Do you have any questions so far?” I ask her as we sit down to eat. “Yes, so how come I have never heard about werewolves being real?” she asks. “Well, like I said, people are not really open to the idea of us. They like to believe in movies and ideas. When those fantasies become real, they freak out. There was once a time when the world was aware of our kind, and they hated us. Blaming us for any attacks or unexplained murders, even if it wasn't us that actually did it. Eventually, we found that disappearing was the best option to keep our kind safe. So we hid our wolf side and blended in with the humans ever since we have lived in secret,” I explain. “So how come I am here since I am a human?” she asks. “Normally, our mates are wolves as well. It is very rare that one of us has a human mate, but it is not entirely unheard of. In these cases, the human mate will be welcomed into the pack as one of us, since they soon will be anyway,” I say. “What do you mean they will be one of you?” she questions with a look of fear. “Once a human is marked by her mate, she will slowly start the transition into a werewolf herself. It happens slowly over the span of a few days to a week or two, depending on the person,” I say. “You mean I am going to be a werewolf? No way that is happening!” She shouts and storms out of the room. “Kate, hold on, let me explain,” I yell after her. I watch as she walks out, slamming the front door behind her. Knowing it will not help anything, I just let her go. She needs time to process, and it will give her a chance to walk about and see the everyday life of the pack. Kate I slam the door behind me, walking down the pathway. I walk with no place in mind, ending up in the common area. I sit on a bench nearby to think. I can’t turn into a wolf that is crazy. How has this become my life? Why me? I was supposed to finish college, graduate, and start a career. Maybe eventually a family. I wipe the tears streaming down my face. Watching the people around go about their day like this is normal. I guess to them, this is their normal life, and now mine too. I watch as men pile wood into a large, cleared-out area in the center of town. Oh yeah, they are having a bonfire tonight, I almost forgot. I walk around the shops, just browsing to kill time, when I notice someone is selling a camera. “How much for the camera?” I ask “For you, it is yours at no cost,” the man at the shop says. “No, how much I want to pay,” I say. “Please consider it a welcome gift, Luna,” he says, handing me the camera bag. “Thank you,” I say with a smile, taking the bag. I walk back to the bench I was sitting at and pull the camera from the bag. I turned it on and checked to see if there were any pictures on it, but there were not. It did have a full battery and an SD card. Photography is one of the only things I love to do. I take pictures of the men stacking the firewood, the birds in the trees, and anything else I can see from my seat. As it starts to get dark, I notice everyone lights torches and gathers around the center.TroyOur lips touch, and my wolf goes crazy wanting to take her right here, right now. I have to pull him back, reminding him she is fragile. I pull away from her lips for a moment, looking into her eyes. I wrap my fingers in her hair and pull her into a deep, slow kiss that sends lightning throughout my body. I let my hands fall to her waist and pull her close. Then I feel her tense. “Is this alright?” I ask her. “Yeah, it’s just,” she pauses, “I’ve never done anything before.”“I know, we will take things slow. I’ll only do what you are comfortable with,” I say, stroking her cheek in comfort. “Thank you,” she says with a smile. “Do you want to stop here?” I ask. “I don’t know,” she says, unsure. “Want to go somewhere more private?” I ask“Sure,” she says. I take her hand, leading her back to the packhouse and into my room. I pull her into another kiss as I walk her back towards the bed. Once there, I slowly push her to lie down. KateAs he lays me on the bed, I can feel the
KateI see Troy towards the huge pile of wood that is stacked in the center. He grabs one of the lit torches and addresses the crowd of people. “Food is ready, let’s have some fun,” he says, throwing the touch into the pile of wood, which instantly goes up in flames.“Did you enjoy your evening alone?” he asks, walking past me towards the tables lined with food and drinks.I follow behind him as I reply. “Yes, actually, I had a really nice time, but I do have to ask you a favor,” “Oh? What might that be?” he asks, piling food on his plate.“I need some money. I got a camera from one of the shops, and he wouldn't let me pay. But I do not feel right taking something that he would have made money on selling. So I need to pay him for it, but I do not have any money. I don't have anything of my own now that I think about it. You took me away from my life, and everything I had is gone,” I sayHe turns to me with a sigh, “Okay, I will make sure he is paid for the camera. If you would like,

“No, stop… You have the wrong person. No!” I sit up in bed quickly, my breathing heavy. It must have been a bad dream. I rub the sleep out of my eyes to see the sun streaming in from the window. I get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. There are some clothes laid out on the sink along with some shower supplies. I undress and step into the shower, letting the water run down my body for a few moments. The hot water feels so good on my skin, I never want to get out. I grab the shampoo and start washing my hair, then move on to my body. I finish by washing my face, then rinse off and get out. After drying my body and hair, I toss it into a bun, just as I always do. I throw on the fitted t-shirt and pants that are on the sink. I feel so much better after a nice hot shower and having some clean clothes to wear. I finish getting ready and make my way downstairs to the kitchen. The smell of breakfast fills the air. I take in the smell of bacon and eggs, and I am starving. I walk in to see
Walking down the stone pathway, there are beautiful flowers of all colors and neatly trimmed bushes on both sides. At the center, there is a magnificent fountain lined with benches all the way around. We walk to it and sit down. I have never seen anything more beautiful in my life. Hearing the water flow and the smell of flowers all around is magical.“Kate, I know this is all so new and confusing, but I need you to start taking it seriously. People will try to hurt you to get to me.” Troy says“Why?” I question “I’m the youngest Alpha to ever lead a pack. Some people want my position and power and will do anything to get it. That includes hurting you. Alpha James is the biggest threat; he has been trying to kill me since the day I became Alpha.” He explains.“Why does he hate you so much?” I ask.“That’s a long story.” He says, looking away.“Well, don’t you think I need to know why?” “No.” He states sternly.
KateAfter a few hours, I hear the door unlock. Sitting up in bed, I look to see Troy standing in the doorway. “Come eat, the kitchen has made lunch,” he says “I'm not hungry.” “You need to eat, come downstairs,” he takes off the ropes, and leaves. There is no sense in trying to run anymore. He will never let me leave, but that doesn't mean I'm going to listen to him. Walking over to the bookcase, I grab a book to read to pass the time. Troy comes into the room and places a plate of food on the bed, when I'm about halfway through the book. He leaves without a word. I place the book on the bed and grab the plate of food. Walking over to the chair by the window, I sit looking into the woods while I eat. I put the plate on the dresser and lay back on the bed to finish the book. I must have fallen asleep for a few hours because a knock at the door startles me awake. Troy walks in, taking the plate from the dresser and replacing it with a dark blue dress and black shoes. “Get change
