It’s November 25th, I wake up from my nap and hesitate getting out of bed. It’s my 18th birthday, but to me, it’s just another day. I’ve never really liked my birthday; no one remembers it anyway. Getting out of bed, I check my calendar. The basketball game is tonight. I’ve only been to one game and left at halftime out of boredom. Personally, I would rather spend my time taking photographs and listening to music. Yet here I was getting dressed to go, why? A feeling is pulling me to go tonight. I have to go and see why. Walking to my closet, I try on many outfits, not liking anything. I can never find any clothes to complement my curvy body type. Finally, I settled on some black fitted leggings and a light blue crop top that just showed the bottom of my stomach. I put on a black cropped jacket and boots. I threw my curly red hair into a bun and took one last look in the mirror. For the first time in forever, I looked pretty good. I walk out of my dorm, making sure to grab my keys before locking the door. I’m always locking my keys in my car or forgetting things. Driving to the game, I decide to park in the back. I got out and walked into the gym. Why am I here? This feeling in my chest is getting stronger. Was it just anxiety? The bleachers are filled with people, and the music was so loud I could hardly think. Being A freshman in college, this is only my second time attending a game, and with no friends, I was definitely feeling out of place. I walk to the top of the bleachers and find a seat away from people. Before the game starts, cheerleaders and the dance team go on the court to put on a show. I don't know why they do this before each game, I guess to kill time? I watch as cheerleaders are being tossed in the air and flip down the court. The dance team is doing their thing, and everyone cheers. It was pretty good, and overall I enjoyed it. Just as the game was about to start, I got the feeling I was being watched. I looked around but did not notice anyone. Although I couldn't shake the feeling of eyes on me. I decided I could not stay for the game, so I got up and walked out of the gym. It was just starting to get dark with a cool breeze in the air. Looking at my car, I regretted parking so far away. As I walked to my car, I noticed a group of guys standing by a tree. I didn't think twice about it; probably just came out for a smoke break. I made it to my car and dug in my pocket for my keys, but they weren't there. Checking every pocket, but nothing. Had they fallen out in the gym? Had I locked them in the car? It wouldn't be the first time if I did, I was bad about that. I tried the door handle on the off chance I forgot to lock it. Of course, it’s locked. I looked inside and lay my head on the glass when I saw my keys sitting in the cupholder. Why today, of all days? I sat down on the curb, trying to think of what to do. I pulled it out and clicked the button to turn it on, but nothing happened. Of course, with my luck, it would be dead. Why does the universe hate me? Sitting on the ground, feeling defeated, I noticed that same feeling. I was being watched. I looked around and saw one guy left from the group by the tree. Was he watching me? Was he following me? Probably just my anxiety, it gets worse in public, and with me locking my keys in my car with a dead phone, I’m surprised I haven't already had a panic attack. Well, only seeing one option, I start to walk over to him. As I get closer, I notice he is on the phone but hangs up quickly as I approach and looks at me. He is tall and muscular, wearing a casual t-shirt and jeans. “Hi, I'm sorry to bother you,” I say softly after taking in his looks longer than I should have. “It’s no problem at all. What can I help you with?” the stranger says “Well, “This is kind of embarrassing, but I seem to have locked my keys in my car and my phone is dead.” I pause for a second, looking down at the ground, before I continue. “Could you help me get the door open?” I asked. “Yeah, I think I can get it,” He says slowly with no emotion. “Thank you so much, I’m really sorry for bothering you.” “Trust me, it’s no problem. What is your name?” he asks. “My name is Kate, but some people call me Katie. What is yours?” “Sam.” We get to my car, and he tries to pop the door. After a few attempts, he gets it open. “Thank you so much, Sam, you are a lifesaver, really. I have some cash,” he cut me off. “Oh, that's not necessary.” We stand there, and it is getting kinda weird now. I turn to put my stuff in the car before turning back to him. “I'd better get going, it is getting late.” He looks down at my car, then back up at me, “You can’t leave.” “Why not?” I say in a panicky voice. “Your tire is flat,” he said in a creepy tone. “What? It was fine when I walked in.” “I’ll change it for you,” he says in a stern tone. No, I can do it myself, thanks.” I state firmly, hoping he would get the hint and leave. “Are you sure I could help? I don't mind.” He pushes. “Yes, I'm sure. I got it from here. Thank you for your help.” I wait to see him walk away before popping the truck. I start to get the jack out when I feel him grab me. Quickly, swinging my foot backwards, I hit him in the balls as hard as I could. As expected, he let me go and dropped to the ground. With my car's flat tire, I have no choice but to start running back to the school as fast as I can. I felt the collar on my jacket jerk backwards, making me fall, and I hit my head on the ground. Looking up, with hazy eyes, I see Sam. “How the?” I was cut off by something hitting me in the face, then everything went black.I make my way to the bedroom to get ready. I can not believe it is happening right now. It seemed like forever away, and now here we are. I go into the bathroom, where I notice a dress hanging on the door. It is a beautiful floor-length ball gown, emerald green in color with a V neck. The top was made of lace with small stones that trailed down to about mid-side. It had a slit on the left side and a small train. It was the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. I slip it on and throw my hair into a quick but elegant updo. Then, after putting on the finishing touches, earrings, necklace, and shoes, I make my way downstairs. I see Molly at the base of the stairs talking to Jake.“Hey Molly, where is Troy?” I ask.“He is already at the ceremony waiting for you. He is getting everyone seated and making sure everything is ready,” she said.“He has made such a fuss about making sure everything is perfect,” Jake says. “That is so sweet,” I say.“If you want, I can walk with you,” she says.
I wake up seeing the run rise out the window and take a moment to enjoy it before getting ready for the day. I walk over to the window and push it open, letting the cool morning breeze flow through the room. I pause for a moment to listen to the birds singing and the sound of the wind in the trees. This is my last chance to run to try and get away. Am I crazy for wanting to stay? This whole situation is insane after all. I am kidnapped not once but twice, then I find out werewolves are not only real but that I am mated to one? Any sane person would stop at nothing to get away. That makes me crazy, but I guess that's okay. After taking a shower, I throw on some clothes and make my way downstairs.“Good morning,” he says. “You as well,” I replied. “So what is the plan for today?”“Everyone is setting up for the ceremony. You can take the morning to do what you wish; the ceremony starts at 2 pm.” He smiles.”“Actually, I'd like to stick by your side today if that’s okay,” I say. “Of co
KateI open my eyes to the sun streaming in the window. I lay there, listening to the birds sing, and dreaded getting out of bed. Every day that passes is a day closer to getting marked. I get out of bed and walk over to the bathroom. I turn on the bath water while I lay out some clothes and get undressed. After stepping into the tub, I let the water rise all the way to my neck before shutting it off. Soaking in the hot water, my mind wanders. What will it feel like? Will it change me? I hear a knock on the door, then the door opens slowly. “Good morning, beautiful,” Troy says, cracking the door but not looking in. “Good morning,” I replied without opening my eyes. “Are you alright?” He asks. “Yes, just thinking,” I say. “Breakfast is almost done.” He says. “Can you have Alex bring it to the garden?” I ask. “Yes, I will.” He says, closing the door. I finish my bath and get dressed. Then head down to the garden. I want some time to myself to think about everything. As I make
TroyOur lips touch, and my wolf goes crazy wanting to take her right here, right now. I have to pull him back, reminding him she is fragile. I pull away from her lips for a moment, looking into her eyes. I wrap my fingers in her hair and pull her into a deep, slow kiss that sends lightning throughout my body. I let my hands fall to her waist and pull her close. Then I feel her tense. “Is this alright?” I ask her. “Yeah, it’s just,” she pauses, “I’ve never done anything before.”“I know, we will take things slow. I’ll only do what you are comfortable with,” I say, stroking her cheek in comfort. “Thank you,” she says with a smile. “Do you want to stop here?” I ask. “I don’t know,” she says, unsure. “Want to go somewhere more private?” I ask“Sure,” she says. I take her hand, leading her back to the packhouse and into my room. I pull her into another kiss as I walk her back towards the bed. Once there, I slowly push her to lie down. KateAs he lays me on the bed, I can feel the
KateI see Troy towards the huge pile of wood that is stacked in the center. He grabs one of the lit torches and addresses the crowd of people. “Food is ready, let’s have some fun,” he says, throwing the touch into the pile of wood, which instantly goes up in flames.“Did you enjoy your evening alone?” he asks, walking past me towards the tables lined with food and drinks.I follow behind him as I reply. “Yes, actually, I had a really nice time, but I do have to ask you a favor,” “Oh? What might that be?” he asks, piling food on his plate.“I need some money. I got a camera from one of the shops, and he wouldn't let me pay. But I do not feel right taking something that he would have made money on selling. So I need to pay him for it, but I do not have any money. I don't have anything of my own now that I think about it. You took me away from my life, and everything I had is gone,” I sayHe turns to me with a sigh, “Okay, I will make sure he is paid for the camera. If you would like,
KateI follow Troy out of the meeting room and out the front door. We walk down the path towards the common area. I can hear voices in the distance, kids laughing, people talking. I take a look around and see it is really busy. There are little shop stands sitting around. Kids running and playing while parents stand nearby. I follow as Troy walks through the crowd, greeting people and shaking hands. I stop when I see a nursery full of kids. They are lying on the ground, coloring and making crafts. I walk over to them.“Hello,” I say, greeting the teacher.“Luna, Good morning, my name is Rebeca. I am one of the teachers here at the nursery. It is nice to meet you,” she says.“Good morning. I love kids, so I just had to come over and meet them.” I say.“You are welcome anytime, Luna. The kids love visitors,” she says.I sit down next to the kids and start coloring with them, completely forgetting that I was supposed to be following Troy.
