Adrian's POV

Martin Hale arrived fifteen minutes early.

He was older than I expected, with gray hair, a stiff back, and a leather folder tucked beneath one arm. When my assistant showed him into the conference room, he shook my hand politely but kept glancing at the documents on the table.

"Mr. Ashford," he said, taking a seat. "It's been a long time since anyone from your company asked me about the old executive office."

"Then I hope you can help me understand something."

  • The Wife He Lost The Heiress I Became    Chapter 50: The Confession That Came Too Late

Adrian’s POVThe glass slipped from my hand and shattered against the wall. For several seconds, I stood staring at the fragments scattered across the floor. My chest felt tight, my jaw ached from clenching it, and Isabella's confession kept replaying in my head."The baby isn't yours".I wanted to hate her.God, how badly I wanted to hate her.It would have been easier if I could reduce everything to her lies, if I could convince myself that I was merely an innocent man who had been deceived. I could direct all my anger at her and pretend I had done nothing to deserve the mess waiting for me.But I knew better.I had welcomed Isabella back into my life. I had given her my time, my attention, and a place in my home while my wife had been left waiting for scraps of affection. I had watched Clara suffer and told myself I was only helping someone who needed me.Now I wondered how many times I had used that excuse because it was easier than admitting what I was doing to my own family. My

  • The Wife He Lost The Heiress I Became    Chapter 49: The Name Behind the Orders

Clara’s POVThe first thing I noticed when Daniel entered the breakfast room was that he wasn't carrying his usual folder. He had a sealed envelope instead.“You look like you haven't slept,” I told him.“Neither have you.”“I had a lot on my mind.”His gaze briefly lowered to the untouched tea beside me. “Is it the investigation?”“Partly.”I wasn't ready to tell him about the pregnancy. Not yet. I needed another medical appointment, a clearer understanding of what my condition meant for the baby, and time to decide how to protect a life that had barely begun. For now, I had to concentrate on the questions that had haunted me since I learned I was a Montecillo.Daniel placed the envelope on the table.“We received the authentication report this morning.”I straightened.“About RC-17-04?”He nodded. “The specialist compared the surviving records with the original intake register, the billing documents, and the separate collection instructions. The records are consistent with one anoth

Isabella’s POVI had imagined this moment a hundred times. In some versions, Adrian shouted at me. In others, he walked away without a word. Sometimes, I begged him to stay, promising that I could explain everything. But in every version, I lost him.“Adrian?” I called as I entered his study. He looked up from his desk. “What is it?”“We need to talk about the baby.”His expression softened immediately. “Is something wrong? Did the doctor say”“No. The baby is fine.”“Then what happened?”I sat across from him, twisting my fingers together. My heart pounded so violently that I could barely hear my own voice.“I lied to you.”Adrian put his document down.“About what?”“The baby's father.”His brows drew together. “What about him?”I couldn't look at him.“Isabella.”“The baby isn't yours.”For a moment, Adrian didn't move. Then he stood.“What?”I flinched at the sharpness in his voice.“The baby isn't yours,” I repeated, tears already falling. “I'm sorry.”His hand struck the desk so

  • The Wife He Lost The Heiress I Became    Chapter 47: The Secret I Carried Alone

Clara’s POVThe words on the old document stayed with me long after we left the examination room.Return to sender. We had found another piece of the puzzle, but not the answer. The specialist had photographed the page and recorded its condition. Until the comparison was complete, we couldn't say whether it belonged to the original correspondence collection or had been added later.I was learning that the truth rarely arrived all at once.Sometimes, it came in fragments that only created more questions.Daniel walked beside me toward the car."You were quiet in there," he said."I'm thinking.""About the records?""About everything."He waited, giving me room to continue.I almost told him about the pregnancy. The words rose to my throat, but I swallowed them before they escaped. I wasn't ashamed of my baby. I was frightened of what the news might change before I understood the risks myself."Clara," Daniel said gently, "you don't have to carry every problem alone."I looked at him. "

  • The Wife He Lost The Heiress I Became    Chapter 46: The Child He Never Knew About

Clara’s POVI kept the pregnancy test result inside my bag all the way home.Every few minutes, my hand drifted toward it, as if touching the folded paper would make the news feel more real.I was pregnant.Adrian's child was growing inside me, and he had no idea. The thought should have made me happy. Instead, it brought back the image of him leaving our bedroom the morning after we had been together, choosing Isabella without even asking what I had wanted to tell him.I pressed my forehead against the car window.I couldn't tell him yet. Not when I was still trying to understand what this pregnancy meant for my health, and not when I had no idea how he would react. When I arrived at the Montecillo estate, Daniel was waiting in the sitting room with a folder in his hand."How did the appointment go?" he asked.I forced a small smile. "The doctor wants me to return for more tests.""Is it serious?""They need more information before they can say anything."It wasn't exactly a lie. I s

  • The Wife He Lost The Heiress I Became    Chapter 45: The Truth My Body Couldn't Hide

Clara’s POVI barely made it to the bathroom before I threw up.For several minutes, I gripped the edge of the sink, waiting for the nausea to pass. I had blamed my recent weakness on stress, medication, and sleepless nights spent investigating the records surrounding my disappearance. But this had been happening too often.I lifted my head and stared at my reflection. My face looked pale, and my hands trembled. Then I remembered my last period. My stomach tightened."No," I whispered. The following morning, I asked one of the estate staff to take me to a clinic. I told my family I wanted to discuss the nausea with a doctor. I didn't want to worry them before I knew what was happening. After examining me and asking about my symptoms, the doctor recommended a pregnancy test.I waited alone in the examination room, twisting my fingers together. When the doctor returned, she carried my results."Clara, your pregnancy test is positive."For a moment, I couldn't breathe."I'm pregnant?""Y
