I stood transfixed on the spot. My attention was solely on him. My heart thudded faster in my chest. The only sound evident in my ears was my breathing.
How this was possible was beyond me. It was him, the man in my dreams - Dane! And just like every single time I had dreamt of him—except when he was setting my body ablaze with passion—he was scowling at me. He acted like every single person in the room was invisible as he marched and came to stand just by the altar. He didn’t attempt to climb up. It was evident there was no reason for it. He was tall enough to tower over us all even with our advantageous few inches of elevation.
“Really, Saraya? Isn’t this taking ‘let’s see other people' too far?” he said. His voice was exactly as I remembered -- deep, rough and sexy. His exotic hazel eyes were as intense.
“I … ” I croaked, searching his mesmerising gaze. I found I couldn’t get any words out.
He reached forward to wrap his fingers around my forearm, causing my skin to tingle as he drew me closer to him. My chest quivered. He brought his face to my face level, so his eyes were burrowing into mine. “Did you let this … son of Gala, touch you?” he asked with gritted teeth.
“What?” I uttered in a barely audible voice.
“You heard me!” he said. His voice was low and grave.
“You mean Jamie?”
“Yes, Saraya, the human. Did you let him touch you?!” he literally snarled at me now. I swallowed. Wondering why he would refer to Jamie as ‘the son of Gala and the human’. Does that mean he wasn’t a human?!
I took a calming breath, mustering the courage to speak. “Not that it is any of your business, but no, we decided to wait,” I replied with a bravado I was far from feeling.
“Good.”
“W - why?” I stammered.
“Because you just saved his life!” he snapped.
“What – What do you mean?” I asked. He ignored me and turned to the five Priests, bowing on the floor and praying.
“There is no need to invoke the human God, I only came for what is mine!” he yelled. The murmurings stopped instantly. I took a fast, shaky breath. ‘Came for what is his?!’ the words resounded in my head. ‘Christ, what is happening?!’
I thought to myself -- or at least I thought I did. But then he jerked a gaze at me, glowering and said, “Don’t you dare bring him into this!”
I swallowed -- hard.
“Sir, Uhm, please who are you and why have you interrupted our wedding?” I heard Jamie say and I darted a glance his way. I had almost forgotten he was there. He had been quiet all the while. He too must have been shell-shocked and when I took a glance at the rest of the people in the church, I found he wasn’t the only one. Our friends were looking on with their mouths literally agape.
“What is happening, human, is that you are this close," he paused, gesturing, "to getting your heart plucked out of your chest, and held in my hand till it stops quivering,” he replied in that unique way of his of enunciating words which somewhat made it more impactful and intimidating.
Jamie gasped and skittered backwards, tripping over his own foot.
“Jamie!” I called out with concern and tried to go to him but the steel-like grip around my arm didn’t give. I reverted my gaze to him.
“Let me go, he needs me!”
“Really? Is this the life you want? Is this what you want? To spend your life with this … human? To choose a second chance mate?” he demanded in rage. My chest shook. Although he sounded angry, there was an underlined vulnerability in his words that made me pause.
“You sound like there is another life … but this is the one I know,” I said with feelings, searching his gaze.
“This is the one you chose, Saraya," he replied, sounding somewhat hurt. "And if this is it for you. Then you will do us both a favour...”
“What favour?” I asked hesitantly.
“You will set me free—”
“Set you free, I don’t understand," I replied with trepidation. An unexplainable ache constricted my heart.
“You will,” he promised, tugged me by the arm, making me swing towards him and then he lifted me up–like he did at the time in the alley–and placed me over his shoulder.
“What are you doing?!” I screamed. A gasp echoed in the room.
“Taking you back home, where you belong!”
“Wait, what?! Let go of me!” I screamed, struggling to get off of his shoulder.
Jamie made the attempt to get up and he turned in his direction, pointed a finger at him and snarled, "Do you have a death wish?!"
Jamie slowly lowered to the floor, darting me an apologetic glance. He looked terrified and he should be. Dane was quite a sight. Attempting to even face off with him would be nothing but sheer madness.
He marched to a corner of the church and said, "Take us home, Saraya."
"Wait, what, how?! I don't even…" I said but then he hoisted me off of his shoulder, holding me up by my waist and then he drew my face close to his.
"Do it! Or else, I will go back there and separate your Jamie's limbs from his body!"
'Gosh! This guy may be unbelievably and out of this world attractive, but he was such a bully and lacked manners!' I thought as I scowled back at him. "Leave him out of this!" I yelled, leaning close to his face.
"Take. Us. Home!" he replied.
"Are you aware you are annoying and a bully!"
"Do it!" he snapped unexpectedly, jerking his face even closer still, causing my heart to lunge with fear in the wall of my chest. I don't know how it happened, perhaps it was the fear he geared in me, but I found myself engulfed in a blue flame as I flinched and then glowered at him the more. I wasn't even aware of what was happening. I was focused on him and the obnoxious manner he was treating me.
"You are rude!"
"And you, little one, are getting on my last nerve!" he yelled.
The feeling to do him bodily harm welled inside me. I felt my skin tingling and my breathing came laboured and fast.
"Stop -- yelling at me!" I screamed. A blinding light engulfed us both. I gasped. Before I could blink. I felt in motion -- in a dazzling, speedy way.
Fear clutched my heart and in reflex, I reached forward and wrapped my arms around his neck. Holding on for my dear life.
As soon as the motion ceased, I felt bile rush up my throat. I drew back from Dane, and he let me. I rushed to a nearby shrub, bending over and emptying everything in my stomach which wasn't much since I was too nervous to take breakfast before the wedding. Dane let out a curse, and the hair on my skin bristled, making me to whirled around. And then I saw we were in a clearing in the woods. The ground was covered in thick layers of snow as far as my eyes could see. About a few meters away from where we stood, to our right, were more than a dozen wolves tearing apart something that looked disturbingly human. A bonfire in the middle of the grounds supported my suspicion. My heart slammed hard against the wall of my chest. Blood rushed in my veins so fast that I could hear it in my ears. "Holy shit!" I muttered. Scared shitless to raise my voice. "Of all the places you could bring us to, Saraya!" Dane said with gritted teeth. I noted he didn't sound frightened but somewhat more exas
"You know since I have the power to cajole fire, it would be wise to not aggravate me any further…" I said through clenched teeth. He paused his long strides which I suspect he was doing to annoy me, leaned into me, and lowered his face to stop about an inch away from mine. "I hate to burst your bubble, love, but your powers do not work on me," he said in a somewhat conspiratorial whisper, only he was mocking me. I glowered at him. At least that was what I thought I was doing with my narrowed gaze levelled at him but I couldn't stop darting my eyes from his lips to his eyes. The attraction between us was potent. I could hardly draw breath without his male musk enticing and clouding my head, making me desire him in an unnatural way. My chest heaved in annoyance, knowing he must know the effect he was having on me with the subtle smirk at the corner of his lips. And that knowledge made me want to stomp my feet in frustration. He had a look about him as someone who knew what I don't
I lowered my gaze, and discreetly tried to put my hand behind my back to see if I could reach the knot that held the upper bodice of my dress together but I was groping like an idiot. Noting his eyes were on me, I skimmed my eyes to the two doors on the opposite end of the wall behind him, trying to guess which of the two was a bathroom since there was no sign of a wardrobe in the room, I assumed there must be one behind one of the closed doors. Doing a Minnie Minnie miny moe tactic in my head, I decided on the one at the far end of the wall, and moved, walking past him. He didn't budge from his position. 'Jerk,' I cursed in my head but inhaled the whiz of his scent like a bloody junky. "I think you should wash off first. I don't want the stench of humans in the closet," he grumbled just when I was about to reach for the doorknob. 'Okay, this is the closet,' I thought and changed course without saying a word to him. Pushing the bathroom door open, a smile stretched my lips. Th
"Um… trying to get something to wear." "Why were you running?" "I'm naked!" I replied. "And?" he said with an arched eyebrow. "What do you mean and?" "It is just you and I here, " he replied. "I know!" "What is the problem then?" "I don't like walking about naked," I said sheepishly. "That must be new. You enjoy tormenting me walking about naked," he said. I tried to move out of his arms and realised his two hands were now framing my waist and his fingers were gently caressing my skin. I swallowed and my eyes darted in their sockets as I continued to search his gaze he did not act like he was going to let go. And I doubted I wanted him to. Without thinking I stepped forward and my breast pressed against his skin. He took a deep breath and his big chest heaved. When he shut his eyes I drew back a little, reached for one of his hands, and made him stroke the back of his hand against my nipples. Biting down on my lower lip to keep from moaning, afraid any sound might spo
Dane grabbed the intruder by the front of his chest and completely lifted him off of the floor, causing him to dangle in the air. I gasped. The man couldn't be less than six feet six inches. Dane was a few inches taller and even though the man was also bulky in size it appeared Dane was stronger as well. The man grunted and struggled as he brought out a charm necklace and dangled it forward in Dane's face. Something about the necklace gnawed at me. It was as if I had seen it before and when I looked at my fingers, a memory of me weaving the leather chain and preparing the elixir I poured into the glassy gem-like pendant played in my view. It was a diamond, a pure white diamond. I blinked and the images disappeared into thin air. My chest heaved with shock. "You stole from me?!" Dane snarled. "I found it in the woods," a deep low voice emitted from the man, he sounded gruff and breathy. "Leave us!" Dane growled at the man while the order was directed at the guards. When Dane didn'
I went back into the room and waited for him, pacing back and forth I was a mess. My heart thudded at an irregular tempo. Impatience swelled in me. I needed to know what was going on and if Dane would not tell me then I would have to go looking for answers. "Go where though?" I muttered under my breath. "According to that creature, there's a war brewing," I argued with myself still pacing. My eyes settled on the glass wall covered by drapes and I walked to it. I parted the drapes and stood there, scrutinizing the plain. It was dark out but I could see as clearly as day. The entire plain was covered in snow and tall pine trees were like shadowy monsters as far as eyes could see. I lowered my gaze and they fell just to the ground outside the wall. There was a medieval fire pit built at the centre with wooden benches set at the side of it. Slightly away from the sitting area was an outdoor oven built with mud and iron racks lined the inside. I reverted my eyes to the sturdy bench a
My kind was created solely for battle, not compassion, not empathy, and definitely not love. Offsprings of Gala call us Lycans, a half-human half-beast. Some believe we were the first generation of Werewolves cursed by Zeus for trying to trick him into turning into a cannibal. Others believe that we were direct descendants of Selene, the goddess of the moon, the granddaughter of the primordial parents, Gala (mother earth) and Uranus (father sky). The truth is we were direct descendants of the moon goddess, Selene, she was our mother and Zues was our father. We were her weapons of war. And werewolves are simply unfortunate offsprings of Gala, either bitten or scratched by a full blooded Lycan. They were survivals of my kind. And there was no love lost amongst us. After the Titanomachy war, a battle was fought to decide which of the generation of gods would have dominion over the universe. The Olympians gods won and the Titans, offsprings of Gala, were sent to Tartarus as punishm
Like a mere mortal jittery of a new bride, I cooked, cleaned, and did almost anything to keep the memory of her beautiful body out of my head but it was futile. There was an aura about her which made it obvious to me that she was a demigod. An offspring of a god and a human woman perhaps. She was special and beautiful and in my bed. I groaned, running my fingers through my mane. When I couldn't bare to stay away any moment longer, I went back inside my bedroom and sat beside her, reaching forward to run my fingers through her dark curls in utter fascination. A strange feeling of need welled in me as I stroked the side of her face. She had high cheekbones, a small straight nose and lush full lips that made my heart thud faster. I remembered the colour of her eyes was grey like the moon and longed to see them again. My treacherous eyes trailed down her body, settling over the full swell of her breasts under the covers, down to her narrow waist and I wanted to see more. I gently
