Chapter One hundred and sixteen (Saraya's POV) Present Time

"Are you going to kill me? You gutless fool!" Vrionis taunted Bertulf as he came to stand by his side.

"No. I have exactly what I wanted. You, groveling at my feet, knowing you are about to die,' Bertulf replied.

Vrionis snarled and even with one arm gone and his face bloodied with deep gashes on his left cheek, he made to lunge at Bertulf but Raedwulf Lykaon raised his right booted feet and crushed his head. Alora, Evanore, and I flinched and looked away.

Reaching out to wrap her fingers around my wrist and Alora's, Evanore whispered, "We should leave the men to finish this up."

"Yes!" Alora effused with eyes shielded with her other hand. I gestured to Sarafina to join us as Evanore drew us away from the scene and we found our way through dead bodies and to our side of the border.

I didn't look back until we were on our side. And when I did, I only looked upward, silently searching for my husband for the second time in hours.
